1. Electro Music in Doncaster usually has Warwicks in stock
 2.
I used to love my StingRay until the preamp destroyed itself. Never sounded as good since I got it repaired
Fit one of the John East preamps. Amazing bits of kit - and really brought my Stingray to life.
 3. I usually take two. Always the Stingray, but rotate the others depending on the gig.
 4.
nope
A year to late for me - I'm trying to find a '64! But have a bump for a stunning bass!
 5.
Ah man, you should give it longer! It took me a little bit of adjusting to get used to 5, but it's really not that bad. If you can learn to play 4 strings, you can eventually play 5 and particularly if it's a right hand issue you can practice that out till it's no longer an issue.
+1 on that. I found that perserverance on a five string actually improve my right hand technique no end when I went back to four stingers. That's too nice to sell after a week!!
 6.
It doesn't really matter since you can never hear the bass player anyway.
True - but if no-one can hear you, you can still try to look cool
 7. A can of worms indeed! For me, the best mass producer would have to be Musicman. For custom builders, has to be Shuker. IMO!
 8.
Does anyone know who sells pseudo Clay dots to fit to an aged P-Bass neck (70's with white plastic dots that look out of place) Are they really clay? Thanks
Funnily enough, I came across this link the other day, which might help: http://jimshine.com/claydots/clay_dots_and...ender_inlay.htm
 9.
, first bass line I ever learned ) J.
And me! I saw the Stranglers in Nottingham on their last tour. Brilliant live. JJ seemd to be playing the Shuker into an Ashdown stack. He still had that aggressive clanky, growly sound, and personlly I think most of the sound is in his playing style - heavy pick played very near the bridge.
 10. I've had a Corvette $$ and a BO Thumb - and regret selling both. The Thumb in particular had an absolutely fantastic tone. This thread is giving me GAS for another!
 11.
The ibanez ATK is the only 'cheap' bass i've played that sounded anything like a stingray (and the only other non-musicman bass i've ever played that sounded like one was a warwick $$, i own one of course)
Was that my old ATK Sam?! Another +1 from me for the ATK. They get much closer to the Stingray tone than anything else I've played. The clever coil switching also gives some pretty good P sounds as well. I only sold mine when I bought my first 'ray.
 12.
Including me! Where's that? Is it a run down from the C to the G?
Yep - between the C and the G. Takes it up to a full four notes in the song!
 13.
. I think they are desirable, but don't wanna research it right now, when I can't afford anyway.
Very collectable and a great price. Sadly I missed it!!
 14.
I use the rather excellent wizard 'gaffer' which is a humbucker in a jazz sized casing, sounds immense for rock and solo'd at the neck can sound like a huge p bass sound, kinda like green say American idiot sorta tone and solo'd in the bridge adds a nice ray-ish snap. Stick two of em in a bass and BOOM. Sweet :0)
I think these are a similar design to the Delanos. The Delano website describes tehm as split coil humbuckers, and from your description, give a very similar sound.
 15.
Simon1964 and daniel collin - Can you guys give me the specific models you have! Thanks again. This is all a great help
They're the model JMVC 4 FE/M2. I've also got one of those in the neck position on my Shuker (with a Delano MM hybrid at the bridge). They sound great, and look rather cool as well!
 16.
I hope some of you can help me with this. I've got plans for a 5 string J-bass, but choosing pickups is the worst bit! I'm a rock player, so I need some big sounding J pickups. Just want to turn everything up and plug in. I've heard good things about Delano and Wizards, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated
I've got Delanos in my Jazz and they are fantastic. Big, thick, growly jazz tone.
 17.
He must of been a well off student, they were nearly £300 new back then....around £1300+ in todays money using earnings related!
He actually funded it by selling a 70s Fender Mustang. I have no idea how he came to have that!
 18. That's a cracking price for a really nice bass. Interesting that its a 1982 model from your part of the world. I used to play guitar in a band in deepest Norfolk in the early 80s, and the bass player bought a bass identical to this from what was then John Savage music in King's Lynn. It must have been around 1982, as I was taking my A levels at the time! Unlikely to be the same one, I guess, but a blast from the past nevertheless!
 19.
Oh, and Wayne, if I buy this blame my dad Simon1964, he knows I've been after one and has offered to pay half for my 18th birthday! Mind you, he also promised to buy me a Ford Mustang too, but I think that might have been a lie
Sorry - I'll have to pass on the Mustang now you've got this...
 20. Bump A few nibbles on ebay, but I'd rather sell it on here! The ebay reserve is set at £425 - any offers near that?
 21.
My posts you refer to were retaliation for the barrage of posts I recieved telling me I was talking sh*te.
Re-read the thread. The first mention of sh*te I can find is post number five where you appear to have taken umbridge at someone having a different opinion to you. Never mind - entertaining thread
 22.
Let this thread run and run...
+1. Four pages of comedy which has brightened my morning!
 23.
oh okay - that's a pretty amazing difference in price!! So it's a 98, much neck dive? - I really worry about that - the one I tried was sooo horizontal
You should certainly play it for a while on a decent strap. Its not just the balance, but also that the body is much smaller than I was used to, and I found the neck felt a lot longer than most basses (even though its still 34" scale). I loved the tone of my old bolt-on Thumb, and a decent strap made the balance less of an issue, but they do take a bit of getting used to. But I definitely regret selling my old one!
 24.
Looks very nice indeed - how easy are those quick flip battery compartments to fit?
I've no idea to be honest. It was like it when I bought it - the previous owner had already got the spare part from Sandberg, but like me he'd never got round to fitting it. I can't imagine it is a big job.
 25. Bump for some better pics on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sandberg-Basic-4-Bas...V#ht_500wt_1154 Buy it now is £450 on ebay, but I'd rather sell it here! £425 anyone?
