1.
Amazing basses, definately worth it if you want to check out a 5-string! I just didn't like 5 strings so I ended up selling mine. Nonetheless: great bass! have a bump!
Thanks - you're right, they are great basses. One of the nicest active Jazz tones I've come across, and very playable necks. But I never play 5 string and its sitting around not getting used. Its got to be a bargain at this price!
  2.
You have a PM!
Bump for price drop. I may also be interested in trades with money my way - pedals, cheap basses?
  3. Bump for another price drop!
  4. I'm certainly up for it, but work commitments mean I'm not not really able to volunteer to organise it at the moment. Happy to help out if someone else is able to take it on?
  5.
trades?
You have a PM!
  6.
trades?
Looking for a sale really, but feel free to try me!
  7. Bump for price drop. Nobody after a quality five string at a knock down price?!
  8. Pictures now added
  9. Bump for added pics
  10. Bargain! The pre-amp and pickup are worth the asking price on their own. I've already got a John East equipped 'ray, otherwise I would have this in a shot.
  11. I'm looking to sell my Yamaha BB605 to fund an incoming purchase. Its black with matching headstock and gold hardware. Twin Jazz pickups, active. Plays perfectly, and has a great all round active Jazz tone. 18mm string spacing at the bridge. Cosmetically, the gold hardware is slightly worn in places, and it does have a scratch on the lower horn, about 2 inches long, where it had a run in with a cymbal at a rehearsal (bloody drummers!) SOLD
  12. I've only had this a couple of weeks, but need to move it on to fund an impulse purchase! White, with black control plate. These are semi-hollow with a piezo pickup. The tone is surprisingly bright and ballsy with the treble boosted - great rock tone. Cut the treble and boost bass and you've got a great thumpy Precision tone. Much more versatile than I had expected. Currently got a set of Fender flats on it, but I will include a set of Hartke nickel roundwounds which I was planning to fit. In perfect condition. You'll either love or hate the looks - either way, you'll get noticed at a gig! Here's the blurb from Italia's website: "Nicky Wire from the Manic Street Preachers wanted something different for an acoustic gig the band were playing and he turned to Italia to come up with the goods. The Maranello Z bass was the answer and is indeed the answer to every acoustic bass-player's prayers. Pure acoustic tone from the Piezo bridge pickup can give you all the sonic warmth of a double bass, all the way through to amazing highs for funk and slap. The mahogany chambered body adds to the depth of the sound while also making the instrument lighter (easier on shoulders during those marathon gigs). Available in all the fetching 'Italia' colours". Looking for £195 plus postage.
  13. Fuzz also had some Sandberg stuff in the last time I went. They tend to have a relatively small stock but it is medium to top end stuff. Don't forget the Drum an Guitar Centre just round the corner from Millenium. They have some reasonable stuff in and are pretty helpful.
  14.
Just Checked and it weighs: 4.07kg or 8lbs 15.5oz (Don't worry King Tut, I do love this bass, really comfortable to play... but it has to go :/ ) Also new photos added!
I owned this between King Tut and Playbass! Its very light for a Jazz, and a cracking bass all round. I only sold it as I had too many 4 strings, and needed the cash for something else. Have a bump on me!
  15. I really like the Thumb Singlecut - bet it balances better than a normal Thumb too (although I hate to think how much it weighs!)
  16. Just sold my Jazz to Ed. Really nice bloke, and a pleasure to deal with.
  17.
Anyone know if Dawsons music does price matching? Got ta have one of those Squier CV bases, and obviously the cheaper the better. The price there is £286, but Guitar Amp Keyboard have them for £248. Got to get a brand new one for that price. Do they have one in a colour other than Olympic white though? Thats all i see anywhere. I am thinking of the Chester branch, though they also have stores in; Altrincham, Bangor, Basingstoke, Liverpool, Manchester, Reading, Stockport & Warrington
I'd phone them and ask. But I have had a retailer in the Midlands say they will only price match online stores if the online store actually has the item in stock and immediately available for delivery. I guess that's fair enough as the "real life" store has to carry the stock. If you can get a CV Jazz for £248 new that's a great deal. I think they have historically only been in white, but I seem to remember a thread on here suggesting others were being brought out?
  18.
Would you be interested in a Fender Aerodyne? J/P Pick ups? Looks and sounds stunning.
Thanks - not really what I'm after, but thanks for the offer.
  19.
It's an S1 - which at the time was a US standard. It used to be mine and it's a corker - no issues and very light. I only let it go because I fancied Simon's Thumb and I've already got a few Jazzes. Free bump mate!
Cheers! Its is indeed very light - easily the lightest Jazz I've played.
  20.
OK, that's a bit clearer - thanks. Now what about that S1 switch..?
As Colin says, its an American Series with the S1 switch, which is now discontinued. The S1 switch sits in the front volume pot. With the switch up you have standard Jazz pickup configuration - just like any other standard Jazz. Depressing the switch means the pickups run in series (as I understand it!) so that you get a thicker more rounded sound. The Fender blurb suggests it gives a sound similar to a Precision - to be honest, it is somewhere between a J and P sound, but is very usable. Hope that helps. I'm not really interested in a trade for another Jazz I'm afraid - with the possible exception of one of the Japanese 70s reissues.
  21.
Yep as far as i can remember probably half to two thirds of people turned up, though i worked out that if you charge £3 on the door, you only need 17 people to turn up to pay for the room, i paid for it and ended up with a little sum left over which i donated to basschat
Just a thought, but is there any prospect of one of the local retailers sponsoring the room? ie they pay for the hire of the room, on the basis that can bring a few bits of kit along for sale. I would have thought the prospect of a room full of local gear geeks / GAS victims would appeal to them?
  22.
Oh god, do want! Would you be interested in a Schecter Stiletto Studio 6 plus cash?
6 Stings are not really my thing I'm afraid - 5 is my max! Thanks for the offer though.

    TAB
Not sure I agree with you and Simon on the generation of lazy players not learning to read. I'm from the pre tab era, pre bloody internet actually and I never learned, nor did most of the people I've played with. Not that I'm saying it's a good thing, just making a point. We didn't have tab, so we did it by ear. Also tab seems to be freely available to find and download on the net' , is music as readily available ?
I take your point Les (I'm from the pre-internet age too!). I think the problem with Tab is that it leads to the worst of both worlds - you end up not training your ear to learn lines, and at the same time only being able to "read" within the confines of Tab, ie no time info etc. At least, that's where I find it makes me lazy.
