1. Muse - Time is Running Out for my covers band. Playing it live for the first time on Friday!
 2. 3. I played one in Sound Control Birmingham (as it then was). Very nice sound - pretty much a Stingray vibe going on as you'd expect. On the downside, the body is pretty chunky. I would also want to try one on a strap - all tele shaped basses I've tried have had real neck dive. They look fantastic though!
 4.
EQ on a 'Ray is cut & boost.
It is on the 3 band EQ, but isn't the bass EQ only boost on the 2 band?
 5. Ahhh! More GAS!
 6.
I bought a pack of these and they're very good imho - http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/0438717/details.html Just wipe off any excess.
+1. I always use those on my maple board 'ray
 7.
Hi Mike Thanks for your generous offer. I'm, based in Stamford, bottom end of Lincs. We have a music shop in the town but it deals with fairly budget stuff. They've a bass in at the moment for £129 (how do they do it?)! I'm going to keep my eyes peeled. In no hurry to buy anything this week but would like to sort something in the next month. A trip to Nottingham could be on the cards methinks.
Being based in Nottingham myself I'd have to warn that the music shops here are OK, but the stock can be limited, particularly in the budget you're looking at. I would go a little further up the A1 and visit Electro Music in Doncaster. They have an excellent range of bass gear including Fender, Warwick, Sandberg and Musicman. Edit - just seen that OTPJ has already recommended them!!
 8.
yes it is, VAT is a tax on the value of the good, is not a tax on the sell act. This means any good which just cross the UE Borders has to be charged for VAT plus custom fees.
Yes - just looked at this. Within the EU VAT is only charged if the sale is by a business registered for VAT, so private sales would not attract VAT (which is what I was thinking of in my earlier post). But outside the EU, all sales will attract VAT.
 9. Is VAT charged on a private sale?
 10. Stranglers again for me - Hangin Around, Peaches, Walk on By, No more Heroes etc. JJ's tone sounds as exciting and fresh now as it did 30 years ago. Close second would have to be Bruce Foxton with the Jam.
 11. Wow - the birdseye neck on that is simply stunning!
 12.
BUT, i miss my old corvette $$,
I know that feeling
 13.
Mid/late 70s Jazzes are less sought than early 70s due to 3-bolt neck (less popular), often heavier, Fender QC (allegedly dropped in late 70s), and ugly plastic control knobs. Thats my understanding but I am happy to be corrected.
+1 to all of that. The worst Jazz I've ever played was a late 70s one which Electro Music in Doncaster had in. Weighed a ton, and sounded awful (apologies to anyone on here who might have bought it!). Edit - to apologise to the OP! This one looks a cracker, and at 8lbs is really light for a 70s Jazz. Add the custom colour and I'd say this is a good price for a very collectible Jazz.
 14. Great collection. I really like the white fretless Covette
 15. Wow - that's stunning! The finish on that ash is amazing - you must be very pleased!
 16. Another +1 for the Ibanez ATK. The ATK I owned was very close to my Stingray, and in some ways a bit more versatile (you can also get a passable Precision tone). Very nice basses for the money.
 17. Warwick Corvette $$ is the most versatile bass I've owned. Active and passive option, and coil taps on each humbucker. I wish I'd never sold it!
 18.
Not getting much interest on this baby If anyone is put off by a 34" scale 5 stringer then you really don't need to worry about the B on this bass. It sounds really nice, well focussed and not remotely 'floppy'
Absolutely stunning bass. I fear the only reason you're not getting much interest is a lack of funds at this time of year - sadly that definately applies to me!
 19. I used to have one of these and I found the tuner fine, although I only ever used it with a four string. You can't turn the amp modelling off, but one of the settings (the one modelling an Eden, from memory) is actually very clean and transparent, and I used to run that when I wanted an uncoloured sound. And the compressor is as good as any I've used in a pedal. Much better than the compressors in most multi-effects.
 20.
Nah, that's legit. Back in the day they used decal material that sometimes reacted with the nitro and darkened more than the surrounding varnish over time. That's what I suppose you could call a faithful recreation of the effect.
Yep - the original decals in the early 60s were not laquered, so the decal coloured differently to the headstock. The Fender relics replicate that.
 21.
Right. I thought so. I've seen auctions for this seller before, although never this quantity in one go. His prices have always been pretty high in the past as well. I don't know if it's a cultural thing, but it seems to be quite common for some of the European sellers, especially Spain and Italy.
The prices are high, although the Rickenbacker Blackstar is as rare as hens' teeth. Wasn't someone on here looking for one recently?
 22.
If it's not varnished try Meths or Surgical Spirit on a cotton wool bud. A good many transfers are printed with spirit-based (i.e. alcohol) inks. Failing that, 1500 grit wet & dry.
+1 But one tip if you use wet and dry. Make sure you do the whole of the front of the headstock evenly - if you only do the area above the decal it will be very difficult to get the new finish even, and you will be left with a shadow where the old logo was. But personally I would leave it as it is!
 23.
As far as I understand it, the S1 switch is both pickups on, but wired in series instead of parallel. As now have a one pickup bass, only the volume with the S1 switch works when it is pressed.
yep - with the S1 switch engaged, the two single coil pickups are effectively acting like one twin coil. So only one of the volume controls works (the front one from memory).
