1. Love that colour. Sadly I don't have a Lakland to trade, but have a bump anyway!
 2. The MIA Standard comes with either a rosewood or maple board with dot markers. I used to have a rather nice one, which I ended up trading for a Thumb - pic here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2367&hl=
 3.
I've always fancied having two switching humbuckers and you could choose what the hell you wanted then !
That would be a Corvette $$ ! Wish I still had mine!
 4.
OOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo... would that work so when I wanted jazz pups (normally dialed full vol neck 1/2 to 3/4 bridge pup) that would work in the same way as a bridge J pup? I play over the MM pup normally anyways but love jumping to the neck pup for a smoother tone.
Those Delano's are fantastic. I've got them fitted to my Shuker here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...;hl=shuker+porn In active mode, the bridge pickup gives a very good Stingray tone (I prefer it to my real 'ray!). In passive mode, it reverts to single coil, giving a great passive Jazz sound. Jon fitted them to mine with a Delano hybrid EQ, and I can't speak highly enough of the tone. You really can get proper Stingray and Jazz tones from them
 5.
You really do need to try a GOOD passive bass! Alex
You may have a point! I've always liked active electronics, and felt they give me more versatility. With my Shuker, the active/passive option was a bit of an afterthought if I'm honest, but I've actually found myself using the passive tone more and more.
 6.
Though i may get more replies here.... This may be sacrlidge, but im thinking about (temporarily) swapping the neck from my 75 RI to the 62 RI...Im loving the Customshop pickups on the 62, but love the neck and FB on the 75.. My Q is, will the neck pocket fit..Also how will this affect the sound..the 62 being Rosewood and very trebbly.. and the 75 being maple...If the holes do not line up or(seeing as the 75 only has three holes) will i have to drill a pilot hole for the forth screw? Anything else to watch out for?? Thanks..
I think it will fit the neck socket, but the three bolt v four bolt issue would mean that drilling was needed.
I have the Thomastik nylon ocre strings on my acoustic and although they sound much more mellow than steel core strings, they certainly don't sound like a double bass. I'd go for either the Thomastik flatwounds or the Rotosound black nylon wrapped jobbies - the latter in particular will give you loads of doghouse style thump.
+1 for the Rotos. I'm not normally a fan of their strings, but I've got the bklack nylon ones on my cheapo acoustic, and they sound great.
 8.
Easy get an audere or john east preamp.
+1. I fitted the audere to my Jazz. Very easy, and sounded great
 9.
Im thinking abput trying some EMG's i have in another bass, in my 75..Is there anything i should watch out for, putting Active pups in a passive bass..Im doing the soldering myself!!! Has anyone done this??
Not in a Jazz, but I've put EMGs in my bog standard Precision and it sounds great. The biggest issue is likely to be where you put the battery - will be worth checking whether you will need any routing.
 10.
Do you happen to know the approximate weight of this bass? Does it neck dive at all? Cheers!
I think this is the bass Jobiebass brought with him when he bought an amp from me a while ago. If so, its the lightest 'ray I've played by a considerable margain. Very nice colour too!
 11. First choice - black Second - tort (sorry!) third - anything other than white
 12. The Westone Thunders are actually very very good basses for the money. But tBBC is right - with a budget of £300 you'll be able to pick up something very nice on here, generally for less money than on ebay. I've bought virtually all my gear from here - much safer than ebay, and I've met some really great people in the process! I'd be inclined to try as many different brands as you can, and keep an eye on the for sale section on here. As a rule of thumb, don't buy anyting without trying it first, especially if its got Fender on the headstock...... Only problem is, once you start looking at the for sale section, you'll never be happy with the gear you've got!
 13.
The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary
Good shout! Only four notes to remember, but goes down brilliantly every time we play it!
 14.
We've recently added Dakota by the Stereophonics to our set. It's a great song and it always goes down an absolute storm. I love playing it but also, it's really easy to play. As in, week 1 of bass playing easy! Okay you don't get to show off your chops (not that I have many) but that gives you a chance to enjoy the performance a bit more, interact a bit, smile instead of grimace in concentration... So what's in your set that you really like to play but is easy peasy lemon squeezy?
If you like Stereophonics, Local Boy in the Photograph always goes down well in our set, and is good fun. And we've just added Pretty Vacant - dead simple, and brilliant to play at the end of a set!
 15. Great basses! I would play mine a lot more, except that the band accuses me of being an eighties throw back whenever I take it to rehearsal!
 16.
Played this Ibanez RD900 earlier today: http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk/product-det...Sunburst%2C+New Looks like they're now discontinued. Shame because it played really well. Nice feel to it - slim neck. Like the Roadster style headstock too.
I used to have one of these. Very nice basses - for some reason they were never very populaqr, and as you say, they're now discontinued.
 17. These are astonishingly good for the money. I've played Luke's (LWTAIT) and sound wise, you'd struggle to tell it from my EBMM Stingray. The body is nicer on the 'ray, with more comfortable contours, but the OLP is a fifth of the price!
 18.
I know what it is and what it does, but what alternatives are there? Does anyone else do anything similar? (I have actually tried searching this time! )
I don't know about any identical alternative products, but I do own one of these, and its a great bit of kit. Particularly the ability to change key, which is a real benefit when you're learning songs for a covers band.
 19.
Up for sale is my Squire Jazz. I think that this model is a 62 RI. The bass has the narrow neck profile, skinny frets and brass bridge saddles.
Nice Jazz. I think its the Squier Classic Vibe with EMGs added. Certainly looks like it with the colour and the brass saddles. Fantastic basses for the money. Have a bump!
 20.
Hi, I'm newbie bass player. thinking about buying a new bass. picked up an Ibanez ATK the other day. really liked the feel!! Just wondered if anyone has one or any thoughts???? Thanks
I used to have the 5 string - very nice basses for the money.
 21. When I bought my 'ray the maple board was very grubby. I found the best way to clean it was to rub it down with fine wire wool, and then finish off with the Earnie Ball wipes. Came up very nicely, although the unfinished boards will always get grubby quickly.
 22. My thoughts: 1 Another +1 on the weekend warrior thing. Its such an easy idea to produce, and was a good read. 2 I'd also like to see a bit more on music rather than gear. One or two of the guitar mags will review new releases, specifically commenting on the guitarist (or bassist in this case!). 3 How about a "secret shopper" type review of a music store each issue? 4 On interviews, I do find the style a bit laboured, sticking to a slavish Q&A tpye format. It would be nice to have some proper journalism, setting out a bit of background to the subject, his or her CV etc. 5 And something on the local gig scene in a particular City / area? Most of the readership will either be in bands or will aspire to be. 6 Finally, a series on recording / home recording.
 23. I've never played the SR300, but the SR500 is pretty much the best bass I've played in its price range.
 24.
It could be a future bargain on here. The switches make a real differnce to the tone. Can anyone tell me their function?
I can't swear to it, but from memory one is an active/passive, and another is a series/parrallel switch (like the switch on the warwick $$).
 25.
There's just no guarantee that they'll play or sound better than a Fender that's less than 1/10th the price,
It probably won't, but it just shows that these are bought by collectors. You can't really compare vintage stuff with modern stuff. Rightly or wrongly, people buy these for the history and the vibe. I recently had the pleasure of driving a 1969 Mark 2 Jag. Compared objectively with a modern car, of any make, it was aweful - slow, heavy, thirsty, and basic. Negotiating a roundabout required a rest half way round. But it was still an awesome car! Vintage Fenders are a bit the same.
