I've never really fancied a warwick before and I always said I'd never own one because there getting pretty but after trying a $$ i was quite amazed by the feeling of the neck and the choice of tones!
If I hadn't just sold my $$ to Budget Bassist, i would have been very tempted!
  2.
Tried a few Sandbergs whilst I was out buying strings yesterday and I was well impressed. I tried a PM4 in droolsome white and a PM5 in sunburst. They both needed a set up but both sounded fantastic - nice build quality too and I mucho preferred 'em to the Musicmen (?) and Warwicks I also had a dabble on. What's the general concensus on Sandbergs? I have to admit I came away with some GAS fellas.
I've played a few, and found them all to be fantastic. I really fancy one of the Basics with the single Musicman Pickup.
  3.
1997 Warwick Corvette Standard 5 string in fantastic condition, waxed every few weeks and well looked after, plays fantastic but I can't warrant having this and the stingray... I was thinking around 350 for the bass or 400 with the warwick flightcase. Would anyone be interested?
That's a fantastic price. I played one of these at a local store recently and was very impressed.
  4.
how has budget bassist's bongo alarm not gone off yet!!
He's got his eyes on a nice Corvette $$ - don't distract him with this
  5.
Obviously there was always going to be a clear split in opinion on this subject between the hobbyists & the pros, TBBC.
Although guitar and bass are the only instruments where that seems to be the received wisdom. I can't think of another instument that you could learn without knowing how to read music. I learnt piano before I picked up a bass, so have never played bass without being able to read. Personally, I think at any level the ability to read is an advantage. Also, we all use theory all of the time - even if you play the "root note" you are using theory, otherwise you wouldn't know what the root note is! I'm no pro, but it does puzzle me that guitar and bass seem to be the only instruments where a lack of musical knowledge seems to be a badge of honour.
  6.
You can say that to any technique on any instrument and the answer is always going to be the same, Why not?
Well, hitting my bass with a hammer will produce a noise. In that sense its a "technique", but it isn't musical (IMO). Which, to answer your question, is why not. I feel a bit the same about these sort of techniques. I really struggle to to see any musical context where the technique demostrated here would add anything. What he's playing would sound just as good played straight fingerstyle. Just my opinion - I can see that its technically difficult, but it just seems a bit pointless to me!

  9.
http://www.bas-extravaganza.nl/?page=bassen&BassenID=18
I ashamed to say that a part of me quite likes that! Would be great in an old school punk band - obviously the thing is unplayable, but that shouldn't get in the way of a Sid Vicious impersonation. And who really needs the 13th fret anyway? Anything above 5th fret is showing off!
  10. Bump - any interest in this before ebay this weekend?!
  11.
It's 30 years since the Clash, Stranglers and Ramones (ie my) era. As far from today as the music of 1948 was from 1978.
Damn, you're right. that's the scariest thing I've read today! And +1 to the comments on Walk on By - gets my vote for the best cover version ever.
  12.
Musicmans are great secondhand buys at the mo. Try before you buy though - because they are heavy - esp Stingrays.
+1 to all of that. I've just picked up a really nice Stingray for £600, which compares well to used prices a year or two ago. And this one is surprisingly light - nowhere near as heavy as my Warwicks. I would also compare 2 band and 3 band EQ stingrays. The one I've just got is 2 band and to my ears sounds much more ''Stingray'' than the 3 band I owned previously.
  13.
lol dont have the time...(cant be arsed).....i'l jus bring it up when am next in there they said they couldnt find it and jus gave me a diff bag btw why are you selling this bass so cheap? ? ?
Its about the market rate for a $$ I think! Anyway its now on hold pending the usual. Thanks for all the comments
  14.
The Ashdown James Lomenzo hyperdrive is a pretty cool sounding and flexible pedal coupled with the fact that it has tue bypass and a mix mode. http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=210 http://www.imuso.co.uk/ProductDetail.asp?StockCode=EG03452 andy
+1 for the James Lomenzo. In spite of the metal connection with Mr Lomenzo, its a really versatile pedal, and exceptionally good value. I also like the Hartke VXL Bass Attack - nice sounds but the big down side is that the EQ section is always engaged, even when you turn the drive off.
  15.
he wants a bass that is light in weight and has a 'square' headstock, so 2+2 and not and SG bass. anyone think of a bass that fits the bill?
Ibanex SR500 (or any of the SR series depending on budget). They fit your description, and are incredible value for money as well.
  16.
<reposted from the Amps/Cabs forum> Boss LMB-3 Bass Limiter Enhancer A lot of people seem to like them, though it does nothing for me.
LOL! Not what you'd call a hard sell! I have one of these and really like it. Very good pedal at a great price.
  17.
but i do blame pmt as they didnt give me my warwick starter kit and instructions bump
I would get straight back to PMT and ask for the Warwick User Kit. It should have come with the user kit and a Rockbag. Knowing PMT they will put it right. For the record, this one includes the user kit and Rockbag, and straplocks!
  18.
I believe its Olympic white which has mellowed with age. I had a CIJ 70 RI P-bass from the 1990s (sold to jonthebass) which had gone a creamy shade but had originally started off as Olympic white.
Agreed - my CIJ 70s P has done exactly the same. Just one thought - was Vintage White actually a vintage Fender Colour? I always assumed it was actually a colour created for re-issues, meant to look like Olympic White which had yellowed (if that makes sense?!)
  19.
I'm not usually a fan of the Warwick look, but that is stunning! (well photographed too) Good luck with sale.
Most kind!
  20.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TXCRCL0EMV8&...feature=related Have I entered a parallel universe, or am I really old?
LOL - I'm with you! Have to say the Shuker Signature will be better than any Precision Fender are likely to make!
  21.
Stranglers bassist right? Can't say I've heard any of his playing though
God I feel old! Have a listen to Peaches or the intro to No More Heros or Hangin Around, all by the Stranglers. The classic overdriven P bass tone, bar none! Nice chap by all accounts too.
  22. That's for all the nice comments - it really is a great bass! Anyone want to buy it?!
  23.
That Ric 330 has made me feel all funny
It is nice. I'd love a mapleglo 4003 to hang next to it, but as much as I love the look of Ric basses, I just can't seem to get on with them tone wise.
  24.
Both my $$s have been quite reasonable in the weight department. Anyone ever had a Marcus Miller Jazz? It's like being on stage with a millstone around your neck!
Mine is certainly lighter than my old MIA Jazz, but heavier than my Precision. All of them are lightweights against the Thumb mind!
  25. I thought I would post some pics of my new Stingray. The serial number dates it to 1998. Its in great condition, and the neck has a hint of birdseye maple to it, which doesn't really come out on the photos. I used to have a 3 band 'ray, but I have to say I prefer the sound of this one. The final pic is the Stingray with its new friends - CIJ 70s Precision, Warwick Thumb BO, Corvette $$ (for sale), fretless Precision, Ibanez ATK305 (for sale), and a cheapo upright. Oh, and a couple of those pesky little 6 string things.
