1. I'm having a clearout of various bits I've accumulated for projects over the years, but never used: Black pearloid Jazz pickguard. I'm not sure of the make, but it fits my MIA Jazz. Mint. £15.00 plus postage P/J pickup set. These came from a Squier Precision Special. £15.00 plus postage Set of 4 Schaller machineheads. Fender elephant ear style. I bought these off Basschat for my Precision, but I've never fitted them and they are in as new condition. £20 plus postage SOLD Fender style bridge. I've no idea of the make, but it is the same style and 5 hole fitting as a standard Fender bridge. Only difference to a Fender bridge is that it has two additional screw holes at the front of the plate. £12.00 plus postage Pm me for photos or further details
2.
If it's an old one it'll be 200w, new ones are 250w.
Its the old one - so 200w
3. Since I bought my Markbass stuff, my Ashdown cab is simply not getting used. Anyone interested? I'm looking for £80 collected.

MXR Super Comp
As per title really - does anyone use an MXR Super Comp with bass? If so, a quick rundown of its pros and cons would be much appreciated :-)
I used to use one. Very well made pedal, but I didn't really like it for bass - its more suited for guitar. With bass, I found I was losing a bit of bottom end, and that it gave a very squashed sound. You may be after that sort of effect, but its not a transparent compressor by any means.
5. I bought a Jeff Berlin around Christmas, and have gigged with it since. Its plenty loud enough for medium size pub gigs. I do use a 2x10 extension cab for larger venues, just to give a bit more head room. In terms of volume, you won't get much louder at that size and money. I absolutely love the tone - a vast improvement on my old Ashdown stuff, and a fraction of the weight. I've never tried the standard Mark Bass 1x15 combo - I bought the Jeff Berlin simply because my local store had it in stock at a good price, rather than because of the JB endorsement. But I don't think the price or spec is significantly different - the main difference is that the JB doesn't have a tweeter, which personally is no big issue for me.
6.
Another +1 on this - I'd go for a MIA SI Jazz (last of run) over the Geddy every time.
+1 another one on the S1 Jazz. And for the reasons above I would go for the Jazz (S1 or Geddy) over the Gibon.
7.
London Calling - The Clash Town Called Malice - The Jam ....there's two!
+1 - they would have been amongst my first suggestions! And how about: The Jam - Start (even though its a rip off of Taxman!) RHCP - Soul to Squeeze, Dani California, By the Way, Stone Roses - I am the Resurection The Stranglers - Peaches The Cure - Love Cats Muse - Plug in Baby Lou Reid - Walk on the Wild Side (Herbie Flowers playing bass?) And a bit left field, but how about the bass intro to Sweet Child of Mine? We play it live, and although I'm no GnR fan, I have to admit its fun to play, and the bass intro really gets the song going.
8. OLP and Rockbass are both good value for money. But if you like the Stingray vibe, you can get a new Ibanez ATK for a little over £300. They are phenominal basses for the money - I've owned Fenders, Warwicks and a Stingray, and IMO the ATK can hold its own in that sort of company. They're certainly closer to a Stingray than the passive OLPs (never played an active OLP so can't really comment on them).
9. Good question. The point hadn't really occurred to me before, but I guess the answer has to be no.
10.
Standard disclaimer: Other luthiers are available ----------------------------------------------------------- Lot less than most luthiers Jon always used to underestimate the build time. If you add about 6 weeks to his estimate you'll not be too dissapointed ... That sounds tasty Those delanos look fantastic Are you getting LEDs?
I'm not too worried about the time to be honest - as you say a lot less than most luthiers, and well worth the wait. Not sure about LEDs - my eye-sight isn't what it used to be, so they may come in useful on a dark stage in Mansfield on a Friday night!
11. Decided to treat myself, and have paid a visit to Jon today to discuss the spec on a new 4 string. Edit: bit of a change of spec below! I'm looking at: Downsize Jazz body, walnut with Asian striped ebony top Maple and wenge neck with maple fingerboard matching Asian striped ebony headstock facing Delano hybrid MM/J pickups - 2 band active MM/J, but with a coil tap giving passive J/J. Jon has a single cut in stock with this configuration and I was blown away with how versatile it is. I'm thinking of individual bridge saddles and black hardware. Still undecided on gloss or satin finish. Suggestions gratefully received! Only problem is the wait!
12. Love that $$ - fantastic basses
13. Sandberg for me - just about as good as it gets for that money.
14. The newer Warwick necks are chunky, but that's more down to depth than it is nut width. Personally, I find the neck on my Corvette much nicer to play then my Jazz, but I don't think that's down to nut width - its more down to the overall profile of the neck and the feel of the ovangkol as oppposed to the Fender's maple.
15.
I should be able to make that date for a couple of hours at least Will bring one or two of these: MM Stingray 3EQ MM Sterling NIN custom shop USA Jazz with J-Retro Warwick 5 string fretless Ric 4003 Yamaha TRB6-II My little amp Let me know if there are any prefs on the above basses. Pete.
Some nice stuff there! I wouldn't mind comparing your J-retro Jazz with the Audere in mine. Have been thinking about switching to a J-retro. And a Ric is always nice!
16. That looks fantastic. I really like you spec. The Delano J/MM hybrid combination is awesome. Jon has a finished singlecut with that combination in stock which I was lucky enough to play last week - very impressive!
17.
Whoever offered the ATK I'd like to try it through my rig if that's cool. Mark
No problem - the ATK will be there!
18.
I am getting on fine with the SR4 Simon - it is a good bass, and I love the finish. I prefer it to my old maple necked one which I sold a couple of years back. How is the cab going? I owuld be keen to try the $$
The cab's great - I really can't fault any of the Mark Bass stuff I've tried. I'll certainly bring the $$ along to the bash - and its right handed!
19. Sounds great - and I'm free that weekend. I can bring a MIA Jazz with audere pre-amp, Warwick Corvette $$, and Ibanez ATK305 if anyone's interested. And some Mark bass gear. lwtait is planning to come with me (he happens to be my son!) and he's planning to bring the bass he built on the 5 day Shuker course (see his build thread). And it would be cool to see my old SR4 which now lives with nottswarwick - hope you're getting on with it Chris?
20. The Warwick is identical to my $$. Absolutely awesome bass, which knocks the spots of any Fender/Musicman etc that I'll played - your Status' must be bloody impressive if they beat it!
21.
My 9 year old is keen to learn the black art of bass playing. Trouble is he is a shrimp so my Ricky, P Bass and Stingray are too big, he cant reach the bottom of the neck. I have a shortscale Epiphone Rivoli which fits better but the semi body is too big again. I guess my dilema is, do I buy a cheap 3/4 scale new bass (which will likely have a cr@p action and playability) or buy something like a Musicmaster which is short and should have decent playability? Typically, none about right now except at too much money. OR is there another cunning plan someone can shere with me? Waddya think? what would YOU do? Andy
I'd look at the Squier Bronco. A nine year old should have no trouble with one, and they're surprisingly good for not much money. I speak from experience as my son (who's now grown into Precisions!) learnt on one.
22. I once tried out a fantastic looking fretless 6 string. Beatiful instrument, but the unlined, mega-wide neck was more than a bit intimidating. In the right hands, I'm sure it would have sounded fantastic. Unfortunately, in my hands, the only use it would have got was as an ironing board...
23. I play a bit of guitar, but don't seem to suffer from GAS in the same way as I do for basses! My two guitars are a sunburst/maple 50s Telecaster re-issue and a mapleglo Rickenbacker 330. Both lovely guitars, which are way to good for my playing! What would be nice would be a mapleglo Ric 4003 to match......
24.
i'd go for the 201...
+1. I've got a Gotoh 201 on my fretless Precision. More substantial that the Fender bridge, but looks better than a Badass (IMO). They're also a lot cheaper than the Badass.
