I've got a very old and beaten up one, which is actually really nice to play. Its switchable from active to passive. You can ususally find one or two on e-bay.

I've not had any problems, but I'm told you can downlaod free (or at least very cheap) software to do this.

We play mainly Indie stuff from the 90s. We recently added Cum on Feel the Noise, really as a tounge in cheek change from the rest of the set. It always goes down an absolute storm!

For what its worth, the sale was actually through Sound Control, so it may be possible to haggle them down to that price. Excellent bit of kit. Its actually much more intuitive to use than the CD version which I used to have.

Great review. I'm really tempted to get one of these but have worried about volume levels given the small size. I'm currently using a 300w Ashdown combo which is loud enough for most of the small to medium pubs and clubs we play, but weighs a ton. From what you guys are saying, the Markbass will be more than loud enough, but half the weight of the Ashdown (and arguably a better sound too). Looks like the credit card is about to take a hit again......

I've got a Jap 70s P reissue with EMGs and I love the sound. To me it sounds like a P should but with a tighter bottom end and a bit more punch. I've tried quarterpounders, but to be honest didn't like them. To me they sound light on mids. All personal taste of course.

I've got a US Jazz and a Corvette $$. They're completely different animals. As people have said, you really need to play both. The Jazz does have a bulky body, but surprisingly, my Corvette is no lighter than the Jazz. The necks really could not be more different. The Corvette is a typical chunky Warwick neck. Personally I think its great, but if you are used to a narrow Jazz neck it will feel very different. Its not just the size of the neck - the wenge on the Warwick has a very ''woody'' feel. A real contrast to the glossy maple necks on a Jazz. Again, impossible to say one is better than the other, but you do need to play them to find out which is best for you. For my part I find the Corvette $$ is incredibly versatile, comfortable, and will suit pretty much any genre. If I could only keep one it would be the Corvette. But the Jazz has a classic look and sound. Horses for courses...

I tried one unplugged at Music Live. Obviously, I can't comment on the amplified tone, but it felt surprisingly good to play, and seemed to be well made. And they look very cool!

It removes the gloss (and the stickiness you describe) without ruining the finish. I much prefer the feel. And I guess it would be easy enough to polish the finish back up to a gloss if you wanted to in the future.

The Jap Squiers tend to be pretty good, especially the Silver Series. If it plays well, you can stick a Badass and some Basslines on there and have a very nice bass for not much money.
