I'm not sure about this yet (EDIT: I am sure about this!) but annoyingly I think the sound I was going for when I was shopping for a new cabinet wasn't the right one I had in mind...! This is the first generation of the NL-210 cabinets. The only difference is that it is about 4-5lbs heavier and it doesn't have steel handles. Apart from that, sound wise and technicality wise it is identical to all the later NL-210's. It has been used about three or four times since I bought it pre-owned from Bass Direct - it's the best condition piece of used equipment I have ever bought, and I'd be amazed if the previous owner had ever even taken it out of their house as it really does look brand new. This is a very, very big sounding cabinet and the neutrality of sound is truly impressive. It really will reproduce what you put into it, and very accurately! Basic specifications are: Configuration: 2x10 Woofer: Proprietary EA Kevlar Neodymium woofers Tweeter: 1" Phenolic Compression Driver Frequency Response: 45Hz to 16kHz Sensitivity: 100dB @ 1m Sound Pressure: 127dB @ 1m Power Handling: 500 watts Impedance: 8 ohms Connection Type: Two Speakon connectors Handle: Two integrated handles Size: 22.5"H x 17"W x 15"D Weight: 44 lbs I have now finally put up some half decent pictures done in natural sunlight! Albeit, still on a Blackberry. Any questions, then please do not hesitate to ask! My firm price is £450 and I will now probably be willing to entertain the idea of courier it at buyer's expense. This cabinet can be collected from either Shoreham-by-Sea near Brighton, or from Strood in Kent. Mike
Sudden battery death in an old Wal ProIIE. Went from normal to dead in about three mins...and taking the (fragile) battery cover off needed a small screwdriver. Eden Traveler amp overheating and cutting out - I've since discovered this was because I was running it at 2ohms, as Euphonic Audio put 8ohm ratings on cabs containing 4ohm speakers. Thanks for that.
Is this true? My cabinet is supposed to be 8 ohms
How much did all those mods cost? Sounds a bomb...
I think if you shopped around, were patient enough and found a decent and fair technician to install everything, you would be talking about £200-250 to get new pickups and a preamp with installation bar a few kinds of pickup and preamp. Definitely 'learn' the pickups though, once I did I realised they had a lot of sounds that I really like!
IMO..best bass at that price range Bar none.. every one ive played has been a cracker.. pre may be lacking, but if you feel the need to its a very tweakable bass... very well made.. to be honest its way past its price range... if you want you could put a US Bart pre in there and some US Barts, or Nordstrands, and turn it into a bass that would sound as good as the US models.. i had a 55-01 with a Glock pre and some Nord Fatstacks and it sounded better than my Sadowsky... of couse the standard bass is still great.. hope you enjoy it..
Yeah, there is a very strong list of pickups that you can put in the 44/55-01 if you don't like them. That's what makes it such fantastic value - as long as you like how it plays, you basically are in a win/win situation because even if you do not like the electronics package you can upgrade to what can be quite pricey electronics packages and STILL be at around £800-850 total outlay, which could prove to be devilishly good value for money to the right person...! A list of pickups: US Bartolini Mk4 Nordstrand Big Singles/Splits/Dual Coil Lakland Chi-Sonic 44/55-01 retrofit pickups Lakland LH3 44/55-01 retrofit system(!), which is both pickups and preamp Hence, one of many reasons I would simply refuse to sell this bass point blank in most situations. I really like how it plays and it's relatively easy to retrofit different kinds of pickups/preamps. In my mind, what is possible is almost like the pricier version of what many people do with really well playing Squier Jazz Bass/Precision Bass's (except to some degree the build and play quality is imaginably and remarkably consistent) - put simply, a bass that can be upgraded to a high standard and still end up being very good value for money.
Thanks for that, when i first had a wee noodle on it i was very impressed and blew the jazz bass i was hopin to get out the water. Yeh sure its a bit loud...very loud like u said with the preamp but thats what u want sometimes . I just hope once ive settled down with it and playing it for hours hopefully i wont find too many faults Roll on Wednesday!!!
I have used this bass for about 95% of all of the gigs I've done this year and it has never, ever done me wrong. I've really depended on it and it has not put a foot wrong whatsoever. I still don't get why people swap out the pickups so readily. A lot of people say they sound 'thin' or too bright, but judging from experience they may have a cabinet that goes really 'high' and that'll reveal the very wide frequency range of these pickups. However, remove quite a lot of that high end and they sound exactly like a traditional high impedance pickup (like on my MarkBass for example, the VLE can give a HUGE amount of different 'subsets' of sounds by changing the frequency response of the high end of the pickups). In other words, don't let other people's comments sway you too quickly! It's worth learning how to get the best out of these pickups first
I have a lakland skyline 44-01 on the way due wednesday (whether thats true is too be seen) Anyone have or had one of these basses and if so whats ur opinions on them? Thanks Alex
I would be very happy to speak very highly of them. When I went shopping for a new bass nearly 12 months ago I wanted to try and get the best playing and sounding bass I could get for maximum £600, largely ignoring aesthetics and preconceived notions etc. To me, the Lakland 44-01 felt conspicuously better to play than practically anything else in the price range, and I've subconsciously always really liked the sound of the Mk1 Bartolini pickups which I will most likely keep in the bass. The only thing I think almost everybody finds lacking (including me) is that the preamp could be a little less noisy (which is a shame, because it's actually a pretty nice sounding preamp I think, but it's moot point as it is passive defeatable) although quite a few people also don't like the standard Mk1 pickups either and replace those (the rout incidentally fits some 'interesting' pickup choices!). General personal points - it has really grown on me so much, and although I don't own many basses it is without a doubt the bass I would sell dead last if I really had to. If you've got any more in depth questions then just fire away P.S A lot of people hugely underrate these out of hand, I think! They're no peacock visually but that's really what makes them such great value for money IMHO.

Amplifier trolleys - your suggestions
sockdeluxe_mikey replied to sockdeluxe_mikey's topic in General Discussion
Some great suggestions, everybody! I'm going to have a really serious look at the links - Gareth and Stingray5, I'm not completely dead set on permanently attaching a cart to the cab and to be quite honest I'd be more up for one that doesn't. Those carts actually look really good for what I need and are currently my top favourites to buy. Cheers all! Now I just need to get a cab cover -
Amplifier trolleys - your suggestions
sockdeluxe_mikey replied to sockdeluxe_mikey's topic in General Discussion
Aaaahhh...a trolley that you actually fit onto the cabinet? A smart idea! Can I be open minded and ask you how you fitted it? -
Hi all! I have just bought a (relatively) lightweight cabinet - a Euphonic Audio NL-210 which weighs in the region of 40-45lbs. My aim was to pop it on some sort of 2/4 wheel trolley and be able to take it on the bus/train/tube to wherever I need to go, since it allows me to depend on using the car a little less for most non-function gigs. What would everybody suggest? I've looked at almost everything and did actually order a huge holiday-style suitcase from Tesco direct that then turned out to be at least 10cm smaller each side than what the website said! Hence, holiday luggage is pretty much ruled out as none of them seem to be big enough. I've just come across something called the Kinsman Multi Loader: http://wembleydrumcentre.com/Catalogue/Gui...-Capacity-KMT20 Which looks good, but I don't know if the wheels look sturdy/comfortable enough to walk along pavements and roads? http://www.saddler.co.uk/shop.html?pr=2084&cr=1482 This also looks good, but this only looks suitable for just amp lugging between cars and venues Any feedback and help would be greatly appreciated!
Price for this set is £135 posted to your door wherever in Europe you live.
This is a real shame that you didn't get these made for a 44-01 instead of a 55-01 I have been looking right down this avenue for my Lakland - specifically, somehow getting single coils into my bass but using the Big Singles/Splits etc. format. How did you find it? You can PM me in private if that suits you!

Plugging an active bass into the passive input.
sockdeluxe_mikey replied to fatgoogle's topic in Amps and Cabs
I left the lead plugged into the passive input after playing my jazz and plugged in my Yamaha which is active. Well i loved the bigger tones that i got from having it in the passive especially because i have to practise at lesser volumes. But what i wont to know is if im causing any damage to the amp at all. Its a hartke lh500. Also if its ok at lower volumes will it be ok at higher volumes? Thanks Sam H
This is an interesting area! I almost always use the passive input for active or passive basses (with obviously sometimes gain adjustment). On some amps, I think the active pad can border on attenuating a bit too much and I would rather adjust gain to taste/requirements. I have a passive bass, a 9V active bass and an 18V active bass but it's fairly rare that I use them on the same gig I suppose so I maybe haven't come across any issues because of this. The 9V and 18V I do on occasion, but that's more a master volume adjustment than a gain adjustment. On your amp, as long as the gain clip light isn't showing when you switch to your active bass then AFAIK you should definitely be okay, but I wouldn't be surprised if somebody corrects both of us! -
A true GAS posting... ask opinions AFTER you've bought it! Been there and done that; probably about to do it again!
I very much hope not! I put in my fair amount of research time before definitely buying it - I already know I really like Euphonic Audio stuff as I've tried a few Wizzy cabinets and trialled a head of theirs years ago. I checked out the Wizzy's to buy seriously but they don't seem to handle enough wattage for my head, and I started to realise that to get the volume/sensitivity I need I'd have to start looking at high efficiency 2x10s/1x15s. Then I spotted this baby I've got a very good feeling about it!
-
Hi all, I've got a Euphonic Audio NL-210 arriving in the post tomorrow - anybody have good experiences with these? I won't put down my reasons why it appealed to me just yet, but what I will say is I've been looking around for quite some time and I'm really looking forward to giving it a blast Thanks for reading!
-
Judging from your original post, there is absolutely no way in hell I would be doing the gig. I would strongly advise to keep off playing full stop until, in your mind, you're pretty much certain your problems are completely gone and even then I would ease yourself very slowly back into things. A very sorry read though I hate reading injury threads...

Hi there all, I have been looking into sending my EBS 1x12 that I just sold on the marketplace. As it's pretty light at something like 12.5KG it would be ideal to courier, but I have never couriered a cabinet before. Who's had good experiences with who? And who offers insurance as well? Need at least a couple of hundred pounds. Cheers!
I have the 1x10 version of this cab and they truly are amazing quality. If I needed it, I'd go for it myself and have a little stack! Bump for a great bit of gear. Truckstop
Cheers! Yeah, they really are remarkable quality and was so surprised when I came across a problem with the original driver a few days after I bought it. I also attest strongly to EBS and Bernie's willingness to fix the problem and saved me a big upset, as although other people suspected it was just the dome that had delaminated slightly causing a slight clicking, when the original driver came out it actually looked like it was something mechanical that was causing the clicking which would have probably meant buying a new one! The old driver was actually still functioning fine really through all the gigs I used it with. Anyway, daily bump -
