Yeah if its a 6 string Tobias for example I would just change the bridge and nut to a 5 string ones and plug one of the tuner holes. Not sure what you mean in the second paragraph. Edit aah sorry got it. Yep have done already, got a bass built to my spec. I’m just throwing those out here to let people know what I might be interested in. There might be some cool basses out there.

Just got my B-stock from Germany. It’s a 2nd gen I believe - still has the RSD logo on (couldn’t care less really). Worked out at about £470 with postage, import tax and handling. Build quality is very good - nothing to write home about but very consistent with latest decent production coming out of Asia. Has a high 3rd fret on the treble side and that’s about it. It’s light, neck is very comfortable and I managed to get the action lower than any Fender I’ve ever played. Sound… I did drop a VTC preamp (one with MEC pots so I assume it’s from a Warwick one, bought it off here). Sado Marcus.wav Please excuse the sloppy playing - it’s all I was expecting (and hoping) to be. Taking it out on a gig tonight Quite happy with it.

Hi guys. Just got this Sei from @Gardenerben (who’s a lovely guy and a passionate player btw) and although it is every bit of amazing and looks stunning, it is not what I’m after. Specs: Top - Claro Walnut Body - Ash with Bubinga tone block Neck - Flamed Maple and Purpleheart Fretboard - Curly Bubinga Pickups - Kent Armstrong (bass originally had these in series but I have rewired them in parallel as I think it sounds better - can revert to series on request). Preamp - Noll 3 band with semi-parametric mid sweep. 24 Fret 34” Scale 18mm string spacing Weight around 4.1-4.2kg Hiscox hard case Has a few minor dings as seen on the photos below. The bass sounds incredibly focused and punchy with a great definition, B string is one of the best I’ve heard. Action is nice and low, strung with a brand new set of Elixirs (happy to knock off £40 if you don’t want them). The craftsmanship on that instrument is nothing short of breathtaking. I just wish the sound was closer to what I’m after so I could keep it 🤷🏻♂️ I’m happy to listen to trade offers with cash adjustment up or down. Things I might be interested in: Sadowsky 5’s (Metro or NYC) JJ or Modern Tobias 6’s - Killer B, or pre-Gibson Yamaha TRB5 - the neck through version Pedulla 5’s with 19mm spacing Fodera 5’s F Bass 5’s MTD AG5 Warrior 5’s Skjold 5’s Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 5 (especially pre 2010 with a maple board) Ritter 5’s (missed one at a silly price a few months ago 🤦🏻♂️) Ambush 5’s Carl S 5’s (very long shot for those two I know…) Try me - I’m sure there’s a lot of options out there that might catch my eye. Basses I’m not interested in - Anything over 4.4kg (sorry bad back) (could reconsider if it’s an old Tobias 6) Anything with a single pickup Anything with string spacing below 18mm unless it’s a 6 that I can convert to 5. Ken Smith - had one Lakland - got one Fender - got one Trade value - £2600, cash price £2300. I prefer to meet in person - happy to drive for the right bass, or meet in West London.

If the internal wiring is out of phase you won’t be getting just half of the pickup going quiet, but both coils. It has to be something else. Again does it do it when you solo the pickup?
-
Ooh yep that sounds like an internal issue indeed. Does it also happen when you turn the blend all the way towards that pickup? I’ve had similar issue when mistakingly putting one dual and one quad coil together. Sounds like one of your magnets is reversed and phases out when blended with the other pickup. Can easily be tested with a magnet or another pickup - if one of the pickups pulls on one side and repels on the other, and the other pickup only pulls on both sides (repels on both sides if you reverse your testing magnet) then they’ve dropped one of the magnets in with reversed polarity.
-
I can’t believe you’ve had the pickups for 2 weeks and you haven’t tried them yet, I had mine in within like 2 minutes 😂… That is strange re your MK1’s. If they sound full individually when you pan to the bridge or neck, it means the pickups themselves aren’t faulty. If they sound really thin and weak, out of phase when blended, then try reversing one of the pickups’ wires. Shielding to blend pot and the green or red to ground. That will immediately show if they were out of phase. One thing to consider is that Bartolini use different blend pots which at centre give you about 75% volume of each pickup. I actually find that useful because this way when using either pickup solo, there’s no volume drop. However if Cort have copied that circuit then you might experience some volume loss but it shouldn’t be extreme. At the end, when you get tired of this bass, I’d be happy to take it off your hands 😂 seen one for sale on Facebook market recently and got intrigued but yours looks better.

Hi guys. I’ve accumulated a stupid amount of pickups over the years. Realising I need to do a clean up, I’ve decided to put them up for trade. Not really interested in selling that’s why there’s no individual prices. However I’m absolutely happy to trade for other pickups, stuff that I haven’t had a chance to try before. Nords, Aguilars, Delanos, Suhr, Armstrong, you name it - I’d be interested to give it a try (unless it’s something I’ve had and wasn’t for me). Particularly interested in older Bartolini stuff too. here goes: Seymour Duncan SMB 5D Musicman Bartolini P25C B and T set Bartolini P252J set Artec MDC-6 dual coil (5/6 string) MTD Kingston Heir set MM/J Tesla TV-SBL1 (out of a Harley Benton) Tobias Toby Pro 5 (split coil) - 2 sets Bartolini MK5CBC set Bartolini P45CBC set Bartolini DL5CBC/CBJS (Lakland size) Lakland LH55 quad coil set, dual coil set EMG45HZ set Tune Bass SW45 set Bill Lawrence J45 set Seymour Duncan Basslines active set Nordstrand Fat Stacks set Delano HBC5 HE/S set Delano single J pickup (unsure of model) Bartolini DL2CBJD3/59CBJD (Lakland size) Bartolini P452J set Bartolini 57CBJD L1/S1 - Fender size - ran out of upload space but happy to send photos. All pickups are in “used” condition. Some are better than others - happy to take detailed photos and send to anybody interested. Couple of pairs don’t have wires - happy to solder some unless potential buyer has wire and is not bothered.

*Edit - in the rush have labeled it as Thunderbass - it is actually a Thunderbolt!! Hi guys. So this is something very special that I’ve been after for a long time. The sound is exactly what I’m after, unfortunately the 17.5mm string spacing doesn’t agree with me. All original Pedulla Thunderbolt 5. Haven’t weighed it but I’m guessing it’s around 9.5lbs. Extremely comfortable to play, neck is to die for. There is some age related wear, for example frets can do with stoning but it can also be played as is - I’ve taken it to gigs and there’s absolutely no issues. A few dings on the lacquer and the lacquer itself has got a few slightly cloudy areas. Saying all this, I’d never let this one go as to me the sound is to die for. Nice, tight and punchy lows, growly low mids. Mids absolutely the right amount to cut through the mix but a little scooped too so that the slap sound is ace. Made in ‘99 I believe. Birdseye maple fretboard, Bubinga top. All original top to bottom, volume, blend, bass, treble that boosts from detent up and does passive tone control from detent down, and the mighty Pedulla Thunderguts which add a beautiful low mid to the sound and it justifies its name. Only thing I’ve replaced is the foam under the pickups as it originally had silicone tubes which were all old and messed up and wouldn’t keep the pickups at the desired height. Comes with the original Pedulla hard case. I am after a trade only for this one - if I can find a Pedulla with 19mm spacing I’d be all over it. I’d consider a pre Gibson Tobias basic or classic 6 (so that I can convert it to 5 and get 19mm spacing) with a cash adjustment. Tobias Killer B, anything with 2 soapbars especially of the older Bartolini variety. I wouldn’t post this as I don’t have the means to package it safely but I’m happy to deliver for half the petrol costs. I also travel around the UK for gigs fairly often so happy to take a detour if I’m passing nearby.

Continuing to thinning the herd, here’s a fine example of a Ken Smith Design ProtoJ 5. This is exactly the same one as Melvin Lee Davis plays here - Word over at TalkBass is that this one above is absolutely stock (by someone who claims he knows Melvin personally and have asked him about it). Really good condition and I have personally had it PLEK’d at Charlie Chandler guitars a few years ago which costed around £140 and haven’t played it much since - I’m not sure I have the receipt for that but I could give them a call and try to get a copy of it. It’s pretty obvious cos it plays like butter and has a nice low medium action. Bass is 35” scale, active with a two band EQ - stacked bass and treble. Video of the actual bass - https://www.instagram.com/p/Bov2VeJhE6q/?igsh=MXI2NmRvd3Q0aHdsMQ== My one sounds with slightly less treble due to being strung with Elixir strings at the time which are know to have duller treble. Has some generic strings on right now. This one is for the real Men out there cos it weighs 5kg 😂 definitely not for me anymore nearing my 50’s. Reason for sale is again I have too many and tend to play my Fenders more so need to sell a few. I would consider trades for anything interesting - especially basses with older Bartolini electronics and pickups from the “K” or “T” lines. I’ve got two more basses listed and would do a deal for more than one purchase. I’m based in Ealing, west London but I’m happy to deliver personally at a reasonable distance if we split petrol costs. I won’t post as I don’t have any means to package it safe enough to be posted. I travel around the UK a lot and fairly often so can work something out.

Hi guys, selling my stunning example of BassMods NP5. Gorgeous colour and near mint condition as far as I can see. Original Delano pickups and Aguilar OBP3 preamp. Volume, blend, mid (push pull - read below), stacked bass and treble. I have modified the mid to 250Hz/800Hz following instructions on Aguilar’s website as that’s what I like (originally it is selectable between 400 and 800hz) but I can easily restore to factory if a potential buyer wishes so. Bass is strung with £60 Elixir Nickel (45-130 I think) but I’m happy to knock off a few quid if somebody wants to leave these with me. It is a 35” scale. Weight is in the low 9lbs - don’t have a working scale at the moment but it’s not a lump. Very comfortable neck with medium low action. Reason for sale is that I have a stupid amount of basses including a Fender Marcus Miller and an Elite which I’ve modded to my liking and tend to reach for a lot more so I need to thin out the herd a bit. No case or strap are included. Might be able to find some old gig bag to throw in.
