Drove down to Northampton and picked up Bernards Roscoe, certainly worth the 300 mile round trip! What a bass and what a smashing guy who certainly knows quality gear. An absolute hassle free and pleasurable transaction. Many thanks!

Weighing in at just over 9lbs this lovely old 1984 MiJ Thunder is a bit too heavy for me to use, so a new loving home is needed. Its in excellent condition and all electrics work fine. It dose come with a hard case (not the one in pictures) so postage is possible but I'll need to get some packaging first. If so it'll be shipped with UPS at around £30. I will NOT use the cheaper ParcelFarce. I'd be happy to meet/deliver depending on distance. So a fully functioning 1984 Westone Thunder A1 in great condition with a lovely new set of GHS Pressure wound 45-105's fitted!

After a long hard think about my gear and my ongoing physical demise* I've decided to move on the basses I wouldn't be able to use live without causing back and shoulder pain. My Rickenbacker has already gone to pay for my incoming lightweight Roscoe and this lovely old Yamaha needs a good home where it'll get some use. Bought her on this very forum earlier this year for more than my asking price and worth every penny. Made in Japan 1984 with typical Japanese build quality matching the MIJ Fenders of the time. The overall condition is very good for a bass of its age. Off white/cream and a lovely dark rosewood board. The vintage reverse gear tuners are the icing on the cake in my opinion. The only change I made was fitting a KiOgon loom and the strings to flatwounds. My kitchen scales says the bass weighs in at 8lbs 12oz. I don't have a case for it so shipping is a no go. I'd be happy to drive up to 60 miles from here to meet up or deliver at fuel cost. No trades thanks and the price is firm. *Well its not that bad but getting no better!

Andertons are offering a white L2000 Tribby for £500. The body on these is basswood so I'm wondering if these are lighter in weight than the swamp ash?

Gutted, truly am. Met him once when delivering a bass to his house in Manchester. A lovely and funny guy and I would have loved to stay a bit longer chewing the fat. MB1 😎 RIP and you'll be very much missed. -
😮 Wow! That is one cool bass.

Brian bought my DR bass cab. Made an epic trip up here to collect from my work place so unfortunately no time to chat. Paid in advance and superb communications throughout. Top guy! Cheers 👍

Tom bought a Trace Elliot head off me. Paid well in advance of collection, great communication and a top chap to deal with. Cheers!

Now I see it's not sitting in the saddle grove. Should have gone to SpecSavers!

That E string looks dangerously close to the edge.

SOLD: Genz Benz 1288T cab with new Roqsolid - £300/offers
bigthumb replied to Soledad's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I've not had much luck selling my DR Neo cab. Not being able to ship being the biggest obstacle and there's just not the market that there used to be. When I first saw these cabs listed on BD's site I though to myself THATS the cab I want but way over my budget. Genz cabs are my favourite. Iv'e owned the 2x12 NeoX, Focus cabs and an old 6x10, all of which were superb. My poor old back is my biggest problem and this would be just too heavy I fear, although 26kg is not a crazy weight. Anybody in the South East looking for a new cab really wants to check this out. -

Looks good to me. The serial number suggests a late 'TV' logo Precision bass. My first Precision was a '75 s/n 616482 IIRC. Pickups have been replaced and it may be active so there might be a 9v battery in there somewhere.

Westone bass guitars - what do people think of them?
bigthumb replied to CathalOC's topic in Bass Guitars
I'd agree with that. My first bass (when 15) was a Thunder Jet. As it was my first bass and new to bass playing I had nothing to compare it to. I sold it to help fund my first Fender. Anyhow, 34 years later I bought a Thunder 1A and being a much more experienced player and gone through many expensive basses I'd have to say that these truly are a VERY underrated bass. Now I know that the build quality is superb and they sound great. And if I were gigging again I'd be happy to use it. -
Eh up Russ, long time no see! Last time being when you bought my Yammy BB300. I pretty well stopped playing myself and had zero gear but I found inspiration somewhere and started up again and now find myself playing a lot and enjoying it, plus I have some really nice basses to enjoy. Nice to have you around matey.

I've owned a couple of these SQ's over the years and they are very good. If funds allowed I'd be all over this but sadly they're not. If you were interested I'd be happy to help.

I can't now remember the model name but they were 2x12 and 2x8 in a very large box. I remember them being very difficult to shift about and heavy. But I did play a venue on a regular occurrence where the power was needed. IIRC, the cabs were 600w @ 4 Ohms, the Ampeg powered them nicely! I wish I still had the SVT.

Reminds me of my old Ashdown 'big rig' many years ago. This was something else with the Ampeg SVT Pro4. I'd love it now, trouble is, I'd never be able to lift it! One of my last gigging rigs was a MarkBass Tube 800 and two ABM 410's. I've always liked Ashdown and @Painy's gear is something to be envious of!

None for me. I compared it to a lightish Jazz and my Precision and the Pbass was the only one to have a slight dive. It behaves very well and due to its light weight you hardly know its there.
-
Well the bass arrived at work today just in time for my lunch hour. First thing you notice is how light it is, a practical featherweight compared to some of my other basses. It looks pretty cool too. The setup was a bit high with a reasonable amount of relief to the neck. Not a great fan of round wounds now so as soon as I got it home I put a set of flats on, adjusted the truss rod and lowered the bridge slightly. The set up will need some fine tuning tomorrow but for now its ok. I managed a quick 10 minutes plugged in where first impressions were a bit meh... After some EQ fiddling on the amp things began to improve. Being obviously different to my Fenderesqe basses and Ric it will still need more EQ tweaking but I'm confident I'll find the sweet spot on the amp. @stewblack I'll see how it balances on the strap tomorrow and if theres any neck dive.

Well I think so. On @neepheid review I'll be getting this delivered tomorrow. Probably be putting flats on as soon as I can.
