First time with the new setup at last nights gig. Also, first gig using the Ripper so much to get my head around! Blackstar Unity 700 and two ultra lightweight Markbass Energy 2x10's. Big sound and needed some EQing to the room but easily sorted. Great fun using the Ripper and the amps distortion/overdrive for the more rocky stuff using a pick, it sounded awesome where I was standing. The Thunderbird is a great bass and a joy to play which I've used many times. I did have to roll back the bass on the amp however as it was pretty boomy. The cabs give a pretty deep bass output, more than I expected but again with a little EQing the results were very satisfying. Still early days and I'd like a lot more time to experiment with the amps many settings and features but for it's first outing I was pretty happy.

Gutted to be sell my TBird but I'm still unable to return to work so really need the funds. I bought this new last year and it's been my main gigging bass. Much brighter and lighter (4.2 Kg) than my standard Thunderbird due to it's alnico pickups. Chunkier neck too, more Precision like and due to it's shape much easier to play up the dusty end of the neck. I do prefer these to the 'normal' Tbirds I have to say, so good that I bought another a few months ago. I love the sound these thing make. Not at all muddy and the best I can describe it is been like a beefed up Jazz bass and having real presence in the mix. The colour is Pelham blue and in excellent condition with only a small dink by the control cavity cover. Bass comes with its lovely fitted Gibson case which is also in great condition. Now £900. The price is to sell and I won't go any lower. I can ship (UK only) at your cost but I'd really prefer to meet up if not too far from Merseyside.

Lovely basses, they both look top quality. I'm not usually a block inlay fan on a Pbass but that really works and would be my pick of the two. I remember the original Warmoth you built, pretty sure I have a fumble on it.

Well it looks like we have nothing booked for the 10th so count me in.

I'd really like to come to this. I'm sure I had to miss the last one due to a lousy gig booked somewhere. I'm just waiting so hear if the bands diary is free.

Finally got to meet John in Oldham last night for a suspicious back street transaction of gear (TKS cab) and cash! Also good to see @bagsieblue again 😎 Hope the cab serves you well and many thanks! 👍

Lee bought my EBS head. Delivered it up to Morecambe to say hi. Lovely hospitable chap and really enjoyed chatting for an hour or so. Hope the amp serves you well and many thanks! 👍

What about a pair of 15”s?

First thing that comes to mind are the Markbass cabs. I'd have thought they would be ideal being within your price range, new and delivered. There's never a long wait for a top second hand cab to be listed here but it's probably going to have to be posted due to your location, unless you like driving!

Equipment failures - always the worst time!

The only failure I can recall at a gig was when my Ampeg SVT Pro4 went bang many years ago during a sound check. Thankfully I had an Ashdown ABM as backup which saved my bacon. I had a Markbass head go bang at a rehearsal, only the second time I used it as well! Ampeg was repaired but no such luck with the Markbass. -
I had to take about 5 months off playing bass about 12 years ago because I pretty much had to sell everything I owned. Eventually I managed to buy a cheep Yamaha and play without an amp and slowly got back into it. But it took a while to get back to where I was before that.

Up for sale is my excellent 450W TKS 1126 cab. Just an outstanding little cab loaded with Ceramic 12” 6” speakers and HF. Great sounding full range cab that cuts through with the 6” midrange. I’ve used this at rehearsals and a few pub gigs and it’s handled everything perfectly. Although it’s only 15Kg I’m moving over to the Markbass Energy cabs which are ridiculously lightweight as I’ll be struggling to carry anything around for a long while yet due to my recent injury. Good overall condition. There’s a few little nicks to the vinyl covering here and there and marks to the front grill but nothing nasty. All in all a top notch, powerful and tidy little cab. Collection obviously preferred from Merseyside where it can be viewed and tested. Can meet up within reasonable distance.

Reluctantly putting my Reidmar 752 up for sale. Terrifically powerful 2 Ohm amp which has performed excellently for me. Only selling as I simply need the funds and I can use one of my other less valuable amps in the band. Also, I don't now need the 2 Ohm option as I'm only using one 8 Ohm cab these days. Excellent condition. Surface marks to the top of the amp have been removed. No dents or chips and everything works fine. £360 including UK postage. Happy to knock off that if collected. That's a great buy! 😎

No it isn't. 😜 However, the alnico pups in my non reverse Thunderbirds do sound brighter than the ceramic ones in my standard Tbird but there's probably other factors as well which make for a different tone. I was thinking about changing the pickups but opted for the cheeper option of turning the treble up on the amp! Seems to have done the trick.

Tell Us About The New Years Eve Gig Your Band Is Playing This Year
bigthumb replied to Bluewine's topic in General Discussion
Will be playing a pub in Warrington for the forth time. There's been trouble a couple of the times we've played there. Table pushed over, glasses smashed, blood, tears, police etc. The singer is a tough bloke who can look after himself but that still didn't stop some Richard head fancying a pop at him. So we're expecting a 'fun' night! -
They certainly look better than the Hipshot bridge in my opinion but both being a vast improvement over the 3 point. I put a Hipshot on a Thunderbird and even with my clumsy efforts, I managed to get a much better setup. I'm muling over putting one on my Ripper but I'm wanting to keep it original and to be fair, it plays really well as it is. But those JC's are lovely!

A really handy little amp what with the tuner. I've only used mine for home use with the 1x10 cab but yeah, nice tones and the comp is great. Plenty loud enough to drown out the neighbours shouting and screaming! I'll be taking it to the NYE gig as a back up but now as the band is rehearsing in a much smaller room, I might leave the EBS at home.

That was much better than I was expecting it to be. Admittedly I was only listening on my phone and yeah there’s moments of oddness but blimey.

Thought I was having a bad year but nothing like OP's. We had to cancel a few gigs thanks to me breaking my foot but we were not out of action for too long. Here's to a better 2025 🤞

https://www.bax-shop.co.uk - ruined my Christmas...
bigthumb replied to edstraker123's topic in General Discussion
I think they should be more clear on where the item is being shipped from. From the web address you'd be forgiven to think it's from the uk so a 48 hour delivery wouldn't raise any eyebrows. Saying that, a bass I bought from a Reverb seller (London) actually came from Holland! I was worried at first as I thought there might be import and tax charges etc. But all was fine in the end and it surprisingly arrived a few days later. I've not bought anything from the EU since Brexit so I'm not sure on anything like this. So yes, I'd be annoyed too as the ad is misleading in that respect, unless they actually can deliver from Holland in the given time.
