When funds permit I'd like to replace the tuners on my Jap '57 reissue with the period correct tuners. Why 70's style tuners were fitted to 50's/60's so called reissues baffles me. So I'm looking at getting these: https://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_pure_vintage_bass_machine_head.htm I just hope that the four screw holes on the base plate match up and the pegs are the same width.

I would have expected some sort of automated message or an entry on the tracking page saying that they've been unable to collect today and will attempt collection next working day, or something like that but nothing. At lease with some sort of update you know whats happening and where you stand, needless to say I'm pretty hacked off. If it weren't for the lockdown I'd make the 440 mile round trip and collect myself.

Not sure. I've heard nothing other than the seller informing that there's been no collection. I know that I would have put in the space but that really should not be an issue.

Oh well. Used them for the first time and let me down. Booked them to collect a bass I bought here and never turned up. I just hope the do the right thing and refund me. Rebooking through interparcel

SOLD - Precision Bass 60th anniversary limited edition

For sale is my much loved Precision Bass. This is the Blonde 60th anniversary limited edition which I bought used a couple of years ago for £1k and only selling due to a recent purchase. Overall condition is very good with only a couple of chips to the lacquer and marks/scratches on the scratchplate. The bass has been used and very much enjoyed being one of the best Precisions I've ever owned. The bass comes with its hard case as pictured. It weighs 8 lbs 7 oz according to my kitchen scales. Comparing it to my other Precisions I'd say it's much more 'lively'. Much more resonant and crisp. I've only ever put round wounds on it so I can't really say what it would be like with flats on, sorry. If any potential buyer prefers flats I'd be happy to swop the DR's with a week old set of TI flats. There are plenty of reviews of these basses online. Obviously in these awful times collection is out the question so the price includes insured shipping to UK only. I will need to get prices for outside the UK. Payment by bank transfer or PayPal with fees covered. The price is firm and I'm not interested in trades thanks. Anymore pictures/details just ask! Cheers, Paul.

Noted. Thanks.

I need to arrange a courier to ship a bass and being a high value instrument I'd like it insuring if possible. Under normal circumstances I'd collect the bass in person but it will have to be shipped. I know couriers can be hit and miss and most here will have horror stories but is there a company that will insure a shipment and if the worse happens, pay up? So any recommendations please.

I'll have to buy a later Precision just to A/B them! I did own a 2001 Precision years ago which I remember was very nice indeed and I'm pretty sure I owned a later one than that. But yes, it's its a really nice bass. My '77 is heavy compared to the others but it's a lovely player and has the lowest action of them all. The Japanese reissue is pretty light weight as is the 60th anniversary, the '95 maybe a little heavier but not much. If the opportunity arises to get hold of a Lakland Bob Glaub again I'll be snapping it up, absolutely fantastic basses.

I just can't capture the actual colour of the bass, probably need to go outside and take pictures. The brown tort guard (the one on my 57 reissue pictured above) looks better on it IMO but it has the holes for the cover and tug bar which I didn't like. The cheapo Chinese one is a direct copy of a US one and doesn't have the holes. And for a tenner delivered was an absolute bargain.

Another recent(ish) purchase from here is my '95 US Precision. Just a fabulous bass, love it. I replaced the factory white scratch plate with a red tort one bought off ebay. Its a cheap as chips one from China which fits perfectly and looks pretty darn good to me. The body colour is a gorgeous off white, the rosewood board is lovely and dark making this my prefect Pbass colour combination.

This is my recently acquired CIJ '57 reissue with mods. Firstly the pickups are new US Fender vintage and a KiOgon loom. The scratch plate is a 62 reissue Fender and strung with TI flats. The bass came to me in not too great shape. Terrible setup and input jack knackered. Underneath the pick guard the pickup cavity has been hacked to I can only presume take a different pickup. Needless to say I paid a 'suitable' price for the bass. So I replaced the electrics and the white single ply guard with the tort one pictured here which IMO looks 100% better. The Ashtrays and tug bar are borrowed from my '77 Precision. The body colour is either a very off white or a pale yellow colour, the (crappy) pics don't really capture this but it really dose look wonderful in the flesh.

I'd be very interested but you couldn't be selling it at a worse time for me! I've had a few G&L's, US and Tributes but NEVER a Precision type. I don't quite understand the 'problem' with the tuners. Never had any trouble with them over the years.

The saddles on the original bridge are smaller so swopping them should lower the action. The Gotoh saddles are quite fat compared to the original ones. Worth a try maybe?
-
I just might try the shim but its no big deal. The action is only slightly higher than I'd prefer. Yes, its not a lightweight but owning a 77 Precision, well its not quite in that league!

A few weeks ago I bid on and won this handsome Farida Jazz bass off ebay for a princely sum of £128. I have played on one in the past and thought what a nice bass it was but being more of a Pbass player I've never really looked out for one. But I spotted this for collection reasonably local so had a punt on it and being the only bidder, won! After putting much needed new strings on and setting it up is plays fantastic. The neck is so comfortable, the finish is excellent as so is the whole build quality. Now I know exactly nothing about these basses. Where they're built, body woods etc. and how good the pickups/electronics are (although it sounds pretty good to me). I did replace the BBOT for the Gotoh bridge just because I had one knocking around. The only 'downside' is that I can't get the action as low as I'd like. As the base plate of the new bridge is thicker it's resulted in the action being slightly higher. The E string saddle is as low as it'll go. But aside from that it's still very playable and if it bothered me that much I'd simply put the old bridge back on. So if anybody else has one and replaced pickups/electronics or made any other mods I'd be interested to hear what you've done. Overall I'm pretty chuffed with my purchase.

NOT my bass and I don't know the seller. But if anybody is interested in this bass and is too far from St Helens I'd be happy to help. I have a strong flightcase and a few bass boxes for postage . Although the pictures are not great it might be a cracking bass. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-precision-bass-all-Original-Serial-number-S873205-Made-in-USA-1977-78/254541933604?hash=item3b43e1ac24:g:77gAAOSwH49ebrV3

Kiogon loom fitted to new tort scratchplate and just waiting for delivery of new pickups to arrive. What I'd like to do in the near future is to replace the existing '70s type tuners with the 50's/60's reverse winding kind. Soft question but are the ferrules diameter the same on a Japanese Pbass as a USA one? I really don't want to dismantle my 1977 Precision to check!

Sorted!

I recently bought (Ebay) a 1998 CIJ 57 reissue Precision bass which will need a little work. First of all I need a new input socket so while I'm at it new pots wouldn't hurt! I'd like to replace the factory parts with the best possible, be it with individual parts or a whole pre-made loom, if such a thing exists. And finally, what would be a great set of passive pickups to complement it all? Cheers for any advice/recommendations.
