1. I think the East option is a bit over budget for me. I've had a bass with one in and yeah, they are very good. I don't mind paying up to £150. Ive been looking on BassDirects site where there's a good selection. Barts, Nordstrand, Augilar and Glockenklang all within my budget. Will these preamps work with the Yamaha pickups or will they need changing?
2. A good while back I bought an old MiJ series 1 Yamaha TRB4 with the intention to get back into playing in bands. Anyhow that never transpired and the bass was left in its gig bag and pretty much forgotten about. It was weeks after that I dug it out and started playing it. I put new strings on, set it up. After playing it though a good amp I realised that, well, it wasn't that good to be honest. I was told that the preamp has a mid frequency select on the circuit board so I unscrewed the back plate to have a nose. It was pretty obvious the the Yammy preamp had been replaced with a pretty cheap and basic one. So back in the gig bag it went and pretty much forgotten about again.... I think its about time I did something with what is a really nice bass. So, what preamp would be suitable or you'd recommend? Would it be best to replace the Yamaha pups as well? The controls are: Volume, Blend and a 3 band eq. Nothing stacked, no push/pull. 5 knobs in all! I have never replaced any hardware like this before so I really don't have a clue!
3. 'One of us' is probably my favourite play along ABBA songs followed by Gimme (x3). Bloody good stuff IMO.
4. Believe me, its a hell of a lot lighter than a Thumb bass, certainly much lighter than my 1988 one! I really wish I could find a decent case to ship this in, plus I don't have any bubble wrap anymore.
5. Wow! Stunning is such an understatement, thats beyond words. Somebody is going to be very happy with that.
6. Up for grabs is my Fame fretless. Selling to fund new amp gear. Now, I really don't know much about these basses. Some googling tells me that its a Fame Baphomet, handmade in Poland. Its VERY Warwick like with the curved body, same pickups and pre by the look of things. The body is just stunning, according to google the wood is amazaque. Neck is slim and fast and to me very comfortable. It feels more like an older Warwick than the newer ones. Fingerboard is ebony and unlined. Controls are Active/Passive (pull for passive), blend, and stacked bass/treble. New 9v battery just fitted. I love playing it although I'm no great fretless player. I bought it on a whim off ebay just because it looked so good and with great specification. Condition is excellent, there are a couple of tiny marks on it if you look very closely, my phone camera can't pick them up, the fingerboard has the usual marks from round wound strings. Collection only from St. Helens (Merseyside). I don't have a hard case for it, just a gig bag. I will not trust to couriers. I could meet up if not too far and no trade offers please. PayPal gift ok
7. Phil Jones Briefcase up for grabs. Selling as I'm hopefully coming out of bass playing semi retirement and looking for a band again. So, I need to raise funds for some big gear. (This is my only amp now). I've owned this for a while now, bought second hand either here or ebay, really cannot remember. It just sits here quietly next to my computer occasionally being plugged in for the occasional noodle. It really needs using and appreciating more. I doubt anybody needs telling just how great these little combos are and I'd NEVER sell it if didn't need to. Condition is very good with no rips, knocks on the lovely red covering, it looks superb. Collection from St. Helens (Merseyside) preferred. I could meet up if not too far. No trade offers please. I'm only selling to fund the purchase of an incoming amp. *** After a visit to the attic I've found the original box and packaging, theres also the cover for the amp as well. So I could ship (although I'd really prefer not to risk it). SO if you wish to arrange a courier I'll box it up.***
8. Bought another great bass from Martyn but now have GAS for the rest of his collection! Top man! Cheers
9. This really is a lovely bass to play. I spent a long time with it at a bass bash. Very tempting but bad time of year for me
10. I owned this once. Really is a lovely playing quality Precision.
11. And I just traded said Streamer Pro M with Ade who I also recommend! Top guy and very nice bass
12. Just like to say a quick big thanks to Alan, Dave and everybody who contributed for putting on yet another great show. And Dave swift, what an all round top guy! Cheers everybody.
13. All good experiences. I played in a band for many years which was mainly '90s stuff, some being a bit later but very much the same sort of sound. Most of the audiences we played to were of an age group of 30+ so Pulp, Blur, Radio Head etc. were very well received. Plus there's a massive amount of really good stuff to play from that decade so getting a great set list won't take long. As for bookings we had plenty. Pubs, weddings and even young farmers parties but could have played more (if certain members were more committed)!
14. I used to own one along with the 4x10. Both were excellent. I used to gig them regularly and they performed superbly in a pretty loud rock band. The 1x15 on its own was more musical than what you would expect from a 15" cab. Bright sounding and articulate, certainly not muddy. Build quality across the range is very good and not exactly heavy weights, the 15 being quite easy to carry. I'd recommend any of the Focus cabs.
15. EA iAmp 800 and a couple of EBS Proline 4x10's and probably a US precision bass (I never quite got on with the Sandberg in the picture). I was only thinking of this setup the other day, reminiscing just how epic it sounded. Complete overkill for 80% if the gigs I played but it was great to have. Not so great to transport! 17. Just bought a fantastic 75 Reissue Jazz Bass off Jamie. Really nice guy to deal with who helped with payment and collection at short notice. Very grateful indeed! Cheers Jamie.
18.
Bump from a G&L L2000 user - would compliment my present main bass with flats on one or the other but do I NEED it?
Thank you, and YES!
19. For sale only is my G&L M2000 Tribute. Selling as I don't play anymore and its a shame to have it gathering dust in the spare room. £280 + P&P I bought it new from Thomann http://www.thomann.d...2000_gtb_wh.htm earlier this year and its still in new condition, due to it not been used apart from a few times at home. Lovely bass, white with black binding and matching headstock. YouTube review here: https://www.youtube....h?v=CBRCaepunNE I still have the Thomann box for shipping and an old gig bag if you wish to arrange a courier but I'd prefer collection or possible meet up evenings or weekend. I work awful hours during the week so if you do want it posting I may not be able to do it immediately! NOW SOLD Cheers, Paul
20.
Great pad, I love mine, takes care of the worst hollow and boomy stages. GLWTS
Cheers! On hold
21. For sale is my redundant Great Gramma Pad. This made the world of difference to my sound on stages. Not gigging anymore so somebody please make good use of it! £40 collected or happy to post if you wish to arrange a courier. 22. Putting my splendid little 150w Phil Jones Bass Flightcase up for sale. Simple fact is that its sitting here gathering dust and never getting used which is stupid. Fantastic amp for home use and smaller get together/acoustic type things. The only time I've ever really heard it was at the Moffat bass bash earlier this year where I had the chance to give it the beans and it really impressed with tone and volume. Since then its only been used a few times at home. Sad. Anyhoo there's a review here: https://www.youtube....h?v=tfzl242K3kI SOLD
