SOLD Selling on behalf of a work colleague who's son dabbled in trying to learn the bass but couldn't be arsed! I thought I'd give it a try here before its ebayed. I gave it a good clean, oiled the fingerboard, put some D'Addario's on and set it all up. It plays pretty darn good and sounds how a Jazz bass should. I'm personally not a huge Jazz bass fan, I've owned a couple of USA ones in the past but I've always favoured Precisions. Anyhow it sounds pretty much like they did. It's obviously passive but the pups seem pretty powerful, the bass has a fair bit of grunt. I really know nothing about these basses so as to what the body wood is I couldn't tell you, its not that heavy though. Condition wise its very good. I'd say 8/10. There are the usual slight surface marks and a small ding on the bottom of the body. Its hardly been played as the frets are unmarked. So there it is. I have no hard case for it so posting would be a bit of a no go although I'm happy to meet up with a buyer around the Midlands.
What sort of trades are you after? What do you fancy?
I would be after a half decent 4 string fretted to use as my main (and only) bass. Ideally I would want a cash sale for the Thumb and get something cheapish until I sort myself out. Something along the lines of a G&L Tribby would be great.

For sale is my pride and joy. I waited a long time to find one as good as this and never dreamed I'd have to sell it but... The pictures speak for themselves, its a stunner with not issues to report. Its all good! Frets, neck, bodywork, electronics and finish. Older Thumbs are a bit heavier than the newer ones which is a small pay off considering the superior overall quality of the old handmade instruments. I would rather not post it as I only have a gig bag left now so I'd rather it be collected or I would meet half way within reason but please PM me if this would be a problem as I'm sure something can be sorted out. Anyhow picture time! I'll post some more pics if required. Cheers, Paul
Am i missing something? £750 for a squier?
It's a '83/'84 Japanese made Fender which at the time blew the socks of anything that was coming out of America. The build quality was flawless (unlike a lot of US stuff at the time). These JV series basses are highly regarded and sort after and command a decent price. I've owned a couple of SQ Precisions and they were excellent in every way.
Please, this bass is not cheap..........it's inexpensive..........its also superb.........fretless it would be mine.................good luck
Cheers. Let me just find my pliers!
Crikey Paul! That is a beaut. Good job you have another one as backup
I wish I could have a few more and a certain fretless would be nice but with one thing and another I'm a little over stretched. Along with my '73 Precision this will be one bass I'll regret selling.
I have my 1990 with the predominantly Maple neck up for sale and there's no way I'd let it go as cheap as this!
I know, but desperate times mate! I'm gunning for a quick BassChat sale but failing that it'll go on ebay for a fair bit more.

Wow! I've never owned a Genz amp but I did have the 6x10 cab and it was outstanding, but big! Used it with my F1 which looked lost sitting on top.

Out of all the basses I've owned, gigged and parted with its the precisions I miss the most. I love my Warwicks but there will always be room for a P-bass. Its nothing to do with image, I'm too old and smelly to be bothered about all that stuff. But the Precision just has that tone that on occasions has made me turn around and smile at my cabs with that noise coming out of them.

Looking at the completed listings there are some 'good' prices depending on your point of view. It dose seem an unpredictable market.

Guess what bass I'd prefer!

I'm really quite envious as its something I'd love to do. What makes it worse is that I'm in a darn good band which dose gig a fair bit but only around the same old local venues. I've almost given up trying to motivate them.
