1. I play in three gigging cover bands and have been playing covers for about 10+ years. I have never sat down and worked out the EXACT bass line to anything, I simply couldn't be arsed to! There are obvious songs like Dancing in the Moonlight *shudders* where the bass has to be pretty darn close but whether or not its exact I dont know, or care. And being in a pretty limited band I find that I have to do a hell of a lot more with some songs that is on the original. Anyway who down the Pig and Whistle on a Saturday night is going to care anyway? I think if I were asked to play things exactly it the recording I would be looking for another band.
2. Lovely bit 'o bubinga on the fretless there!
3. I owned a few CLX112's and were all 4ohm drivers (in 8 ohm cabs). I emailed EA regarding using multiple cabs and questioned the use of 4ohm drivers. I got a very prompt reply from them basically saying that the multiple use of the cabs was ok due to the drivers being about 6ohms rather than 4ohms. I wish I had kept the email now!
4. My '87 SS1. Ex Warwickhunt stable! Would still kill for his fretless!
5.
I think the Bass Centre had them for about £4000 new when they came out. Very pricey, much like Hellborg's Warwick amps! And yes, I did trade my Thumb for a Kubicki. It was a 1999 model I think, with a wenge neck in "as new" condition, lovely bass! Alas, Kubicki basses are just more my thing.
It was a nice Thumb, played and felt just right. Julian (slooj) now uses a 5 string G&L as he needs the extra string! I though the Kubicki was bonkers but wow, what a slap machine!
6.
The Hellborg bass is awesome but it's so damn expensive!
Ha ha! Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder! I dare not ask how much they are though. BTW Chris did you trade your Thumb for the Kubicki last year?
7. I'm certainlly more impressed with that than a load of machine gun slap playing!
8.
Warwicks are the most dog-ugly range of basses I've ever seen.
You mean that you DONT like the Hellborg Signature Bass?
9.
Why does the Zender bass have to be ugly
Its pretty foul! I wonder if anybody buys their Signature basses? Most of them look dreadful and probably cost the same as a family car!
10.
The only reason I didnt sell it on is that it was built to order and I wouldnt get another like it.......
Any pics?
11.
This happened elsewhere?? Just thought Id share my experience of 'DUH' ness
Oh yes! I was very happy with the Thumb bass I had a few years back but the lure of other basses was overwhelming so the Warwicks went and I've owned many basses since, too many to mention but I'm back on Warwicks now, and happy!
12.
Oh dear, I looked at their price list 3,800.00 USD = 2,452.22 GBP
Stroof!
13. Never used one but €150 seems a good price. I've known players to use a single Aguilar GS112 at small gigs and be heard ok. I owned 2 GS112's and together they were very good so you might want to think about a second cab if you're in a band with loud drummer and guitarists, like I am! p.s Sorry for my bad English too!
14. The red one dose it for me! But again wouldn't the fingerboard look better if stopped at the nut?
15. I have to agree that the bridge just dont look right, but I remember saying that about the first Lakland Jazz I owned!
16. From what you're saying in the OP I would look at Markbass gear. I think it would cover your tone requirements perfectly when using a 15" cab. Light weight too!
17. I used to use a TD650 with a Proline 2x12 and a Proline 4x10. For the venues I play this setup was a little overkill but it sounded (and looked) the biz! The 2x12 was probably my favourite EBS cab which was occasionally used with my Markbass 250w head which was a lovely combination. For most gigs now I use a Markbass F1 with my Proline 4x10 and this is plenty. I doubt that I would ever go back to using a large stack again.
18. Looking at the Warwick website the bass is a P nut III. I dont have a clue who P-Nut is and never heard of 311. Anyhow it also has a Seymour Duncan preamp which makes me wonder why Warwick would use these electronics? The older version used the MEC ones (like in my JazzMan). So are MEC pups and preamps crap and just not as good as SD? My other Warwicks have EMG's BTW.
19. I wonder how the Basslines pups compare to the MEC's?
20. I've sent a few basses out around Europe and interparcel are good. Also try parcel2go.com or parcel2ship.com as sometimes it may save you a few quid.
21. I've owned and used many ProLine cabs but never and Neo ones, though there have been a few times where I wish I had! I have been told by a few guys that have used both and they've said that they prefer the Prolines over the neos. I'd like to A/B some and see (hear) for myself.
22. I hate my visits to see Mark, well my bank balance dose! Happy Christmas mate and thanks for all your help and advice over the last year. Paul
23.
Bargain!!!
Too right! Exceptional and bombproof cabs these.
24. Oh my word thats lovely! Brian's a great guy to deal with BTW.
