Hi. I just wanted to chip in here as it's something close to my heart. I'm sure people haven't meant any harm responding with jokey misspelled text. But consider how incredibly confusing a text-based medium like the internet can be for people who suffer this problem - particularly given that text-based searching is really the only means yet available for using the internet effectively. Then consider how much the internet has permeated society and how being excluded, particularly for younger people, could hamper their ability to participate fully in modern society. Dyslexia was simply not an issue in the past as it is now, because on average our lives are far more text-dominated than at any other point in history. I don't have dyslexia and I used to be a bit of a spelling Nazi when I was younger, much to my shame. Misspelled words irritated me, slowing my reading. But being married to someone who has dyslexia, as do most others in her family, has transformed my understanding. We have had many conversations about how the letters seem to shift around on the page/screen - how when I read, I take in whole phrases in a glance but she has to decipher each word one at a time, sometimes letter by letter. My wife worked incredibly hard on her reading and writing skills and is actually doing very well as an academic (she has degrees from Cambridge, Exeter and Edinburgh). But it's important to understand that whilst (very) hard work allows people to improve these skills, dyslexia can't be completely overcome. It's lifelong so you have to cut some slack. The mental effort my wife expends when concentrating on getting it right is significant, if she's tired or trying to hurry her accuracy drops considerably. And whilst internet search functions have started to include spelling suggestions these don't always work with some of her more creative attempts at a difficult word. An issue if you're working in obscure academic subjects with their own special jargon! I do believe correct spelling where possible is a useful thing for everyone, but I find it incredibly irritating when people have a go at others based on their spelling rather than their argument, despite the fact that they've understood the words. Or if they lord it over them based on spelling. That's just pathetic. Anyway a bit of a rambling rant and not intended to have a go at anyone, just wanted to try and help people who've not got much experience with this condition to look at it from a more informed perspective. Cheers and apologies if this sounds a bit preachy.
Cheers Lawrence. I remember going to Aston university (I think) when I was a kid to be assessed, doing all kinds of tests etc. Long time ago now so I cannot remember much but what I do remember and will never forget was being called thick by a teacher at primary school. Also my parents anguish about having a 'slow' son. Still hopefully times have moved on now and kids can get better help and more understanding from their teachers. Thank God for spell checker!
Damn you for posting those shots. I do want that bass but until after Christmas i cant afford it. How much was you thinking of?
Sorry! I could do it for £650 as there is another one for the same price, I think. I didnt want to put this up for sale when there is another one but I really need to shift one of these soon. I would include postage but it only has the Sandberg gig bag and not a hard case.
Ooooo, thats more like it ;-) Any details?
It belonged to tombboy, he traded it for a cab some time ago. Its black (blackburst) with a rosewood fingerboard. I cannot really afford to keep both basses so one will have to go which is a bit of a bummer as I dearly like them both.

I've waffled on about how much I like my iAmp800 over on finnbass probably a bit too much so I wont start here! I've used the amp with just one 4ohm EBS cab before and its been plenty loud enough and I've been more than happy with the results. I've played an outdoor gig with both cabs 'at volume' and the sound was massive. Again very very impressed. I think your iAmp puts 350w in to 8 Ohms Peter so I'm quite surprised that you're struggling with it. Your band isn't particularly loud by any means and when I watched you a couple of weeks ago the bass was cutting through nicely with the one cab, no drama at all!

After a couple of weeks of deciding which bass to part with I've come to a decision. I acquired a Sandberg PM in a trade for a cab which I have come to like, a lot! I couldn't really afford to keep both basses so sadly I have to say good bye to the Duck Dunn. I got this during the summer from Absolute Music Solutions. I guess its a few years old although its practically unmarked. I'm lead to believe the it has a Lindy Fralin pickup which to me sounds quite 'aggressive', nothing like my old Precision. It has the usual Lakland build quality and the finish is gorgeous. It has a hard case so posting wont be a problem. If you need any questions answering or further pictures just pop me a PM. I managed to haggle the shop down to £840 plus postage. I'm happy to let it go for £650 posted. Cheers, Paul

Good stuff Tony! Your old Proline has a new partner now. I've only used the rig once or twice as the bands going through a gig drought at the moment but blimey it sounded phenomenal!

Fantastic weekend! It was really great to meet up with you guys. There were far too many cracking basses for me to pick a favourite. Loved Joe's Sadowsky, Bob's Pedulla and ACG, Peters Spector amongst many others. Thanks to Alan and Peter for a fab weekend and the guys for bringing such great gear along! Cheers, paul

Another "my band are a bunch of idiots" threads
I wouldn't care but by the time I have loaded up the car and all that stuff... it's about one hour each way and I've got better things to do quite frankly. Grrrrr
Ouch! I only have to drive for about 10 minuets for my time to be wasted though TBH I have sod all better to do! -
Turned up to practice tonight after a one month hiatus due to the drummer "doing other things". Didn't get very far - drummer who clearly didn't want to be there then finds he has "lost" some of his stands and won't / can't play. Meanwhile, I finally learn a song that the guitarist has been hassling me to learn for months and he says "oh, that's good, but I don't actually know it myself". We have no gigs lined up until next year and nobody seems to care enough to go and find any. Sigh! Anybody need a second rate bass player
I seem to be in the same boat with my lot. Anybody need a third rate bass player? -
Looking forward to seeing y'all this weekend! Big thanks to GreeneKing. Cheers Peter!

The old 'what amp should I get?' chestnut
bigthumb replied to holio.cornolio's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've heard not too good things said about new Ampeg combos (although I've never used one). First thoughts would be a Trace Elliot 15" combo. The 300w ones are pretty powerful and quite versatile tone wise. Not sure if it dose the Ampeg thing but I bet it wont be too far off and you can get them pretty cheep! -
I'm the proud new owner of Tombboys blackburst California PM. I forgot just how good these basses are!
