Well GAK had one in the sales and I pulled the trigger. It was less than some used ones I've seen advertised so I thought what the hell! I'll have to make do with the bridge for now until my credit card is in a more healthy condition but the Babicz will be on my shopping list. However I do have a bass with the Gibson 3 point and despite its limitations I've managed to set it up pretty well with a reasonably low and noise free action. A couple of months ago I finally scratched my Tbird itch with this Japanese Orville, a bass I never knew existed but after some research it seems that they're quite well regarded so I took the plunge. It doesn't disappoint. Although I've never played one I have to say that I don't really like the current Thunderbirds. I much prefer the chrome pups and the vintage reverse tuners on the Orville. I've only tried an Epiphone TB and it was not good at all so my experience with these is very limited. I've only played it at home through a tiny MarkBass combo but it sounds so good. I will be hoping to use the incoming bass with the band should it ever pull it's finger out and start playing again. Really looking forward to it's arrival and here's a pic of the Orville

Fender American II Pro Bass with bottomed out saddles - easy fix?
bigthumb replied to daws0n's topic in Bass Guitars
I'd guess that there's a lot of relief. Pro 2 necks are one of the nicest Precision necks I've played (never tried a Jazz though) and getting a low action is pretty easy. I'd say that the truss rod needs tightening quite a lot. Ask if the truss rod works as it should and it's not maxed out. -
Anyone else got a particularly long finger nail?
bigthumb replied to Big J's topic in General Discussion
I have exactly the same issue which I find bloody annoying. I play a fast(ish) finger style and plectrums just don't work for me so like you I have to keep my nails very short which can sometimes lead to those painful splits that stop me from playing until they heal. I remember going out gigging one night and I forgot to trim them. It bothered me all night with the continuous clanking! -
That is very, very nice. A pleasure just to look at!

I'd just get that red wire into the box so it's making contact and then superglue it into position. Should hopefully never come loose and retain the contact inside.

Always a pleasure to buy from or sell to Ash. Ash bought my JV Precision and being reasonably local I dropped the bass off. Great collection of interesting gear and friendly cat! A top Basschatter to deal with every time. 👍

1982 JV Squier Precision Bass *** ON HOLD *** - *SOLD*

Reluctantly putting my MiJ 1982 JV Squier Precision bass up for sale. Iv’e owned this for a couple of years but due to my useless back and this weighing in at 4.2Kg it’s just not getting any use now. I persevered using it at rehearsals and a couple of gigs but after twenty minutes or so my back would start complaining. If the bass was sub 4Kg I wouldn’t be selling it but it’s not getting used and it really should be. Anyhow, the bass is in superb condition for a 41 year old. There are minor scratches here and there as expected but nothing noteworthy. The serial number dates it to an ’82 but there is no penciled date on the neck. Also the pickups do not have the raised ‘A’ pole pieces. I have heard that not all of them did and in some cases owners would replace them as they found the raised magnets uncomfortable when playing over the pickups. If they have been replaced they’ve been replaced with quality ones with cloth covered wires as shown in the picture below. The knobs are the period correct domed ones as is the single ply white scratch plate and threaded saddles. This bass really sounds good with rounds but I have TI flats on at the moment and it sounds killer. Personally I’m not a fan of the tension of these but I put up with them because it just sounds so good. Frets are in excellent condition, neck has a shallow profile and extremely comfortable, nut is 42mm. Set up is spot on for me but it will go lower if that’s your thing. It dose have a hard case (not the greatest) and shipping is possible if it’s something you wish to arrange. I’m quite happy to meet up an hour or so from here in Merseyside. The price I’m asking is a lot lower than what I paid but I know times aren’t great and the cash would be very useful at the moment due to being out of work so no trade offers thanks.

I saw one for sale on the web which had a picture of the bass on a digital scale and it weighed in at just over 4Kg so not exactly a boat anchor. GAK have a new one up for sale at 1399 and it's very tempting.

Due to an incoming bass from BassBros I'm having to re list my Precision bass to help fund it. I had this up for sale but decided to keep it as I knew it would only be a matter of time before I'd be on the hunt for another but this time GAS has got the better of me! Overall in very good condition with only light surface scratches. No chips it the lacquer and neck/fretboard perfect. Weight is just over the 9Lbs mark. It's currently strung with new (ish) DR Pure Blues 45-105 but there's a spare set of flats included. The Fender case is included which is also in great condition. I can't ship the bass yet as I have no packaging for it but I'm hoping that I'll have something suitable when my new bass arrives this week. No trade offers please and the price is firm.

The cheapest I used to get them was off eBay from an American seller. Took a bit longer to get here and no fees, I'm sure they were around £25 delivered but that was a good few years ago. I've just ordered a set from amazon for £30 inc. delivery.
