I need some opinions on this bass that I acquired earlier this year. It was an eBay purchase, not from a Basschatter I'd like to add. Anyhow, at the time I was looking to get another US Pbass but this one popped up and it looked pretty good. First of all no obvious modifications and added pickups, secondly the superb condition and the price wasn't OTT like some others I had seen. I've never owned a JV but the ones I've had a go on really impressed so I thought lets go for it. On playing the first thing I noticed was the shallow neck profile, very unlike the more chunky ones on my other Precisions. This I liked! Sound wise really growly, exactly what I wanted to hear coming out of the speaker. The only down side for me was It's slightly heaver than I was hoping for but it's by no means the heaviest and TBH wouldn't cause a problem. So on the whole I'm pretty happy with it. It needed setting up to my liking but I'd get around to that when I had the time. So, this is when I noticed things. First there was no date penciled in the bottom of the neck. I wondered if over time it had rubbed off but there really is no evidence of anything there. Secondly the pickup doesn't have the raised 'A' magnet and thirdly the reverse winding tuners don't sit flush on the back of the headstock. I know why this is as I've retro fitted these types of tuners and it's been a right pain in the butt. Anyhow, I removed one of these tuners but there was no evidence of any other types been fitted. i.e no extra holes. Everything else seems fine. Threaded saddles, single ply plate cloth covered wiring etc. Sounds lovely and obviously very well put together. So really I need some opinions on this please.

Hi Gary Between Telford and Stafford, Newport? A Salopian here, in exile up int North. Welcome along and nice choice of gear. I have a Genzler 350 too, cracking little amp and I'd love to try the GR cabs. My gear also suggests I'm a good player, but my playing says otherwise!

Greg bought my Seiko watch. A really nice chap to deal with and I, like so many others, highly recommend this top Basschatter. Cheers Greg 👍

John bought my Apple wireless keyboard. No messin' no fuss! A top Basschatter to deal with 👍

Thanks John. BTW, the proceeds were donated to a Greyhound rescue in North Shropshire who I've been following for some time and donated to before. Cheers 👍

Are barrel jack sockets inherently problematic?

Recently fitted a Switchcraft to my Spector with was an absolute nightmare due to the short wires from the Tonepump. I really hope I never have to do that again! -

I'm selling a few random odds and ends to help fund a couple independent dog rescues during these pretty bad times. There's going to be many dogs abandoned or (if lucky) taken in by rescues. These rescue centres are in dire need of donations to help keep the dogs fed and warm. All my pets, 4 dogs, a cat and even some tropical fish are rescued and it's a subject dear to me. All proceeds from these sales will go to charity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- In very good as new condition. Huge storage pockets! Looks a really decent budget gig bag but I have no need for it. Price includes UK postage. -
Not the HD350 but I recently bought a TD650 here a couple of months ago. I'm using it with a Vanderkley 2x12 and WOW, just WOW! I can honestly say that I've never had a sound so good and I've owned many 'quality' amps and cabs over the years. The drive, clarity and compression work so well and everything sounds so clear. I'm not a stranger to EBS gear. I owned a TD650 15 years ago along with EBS Proline 4x10 and 2x12 cabs and obviously the sound was huge but maybe the Vanderkley cabs are better? I just don't remember being so overwhelmed by the sound coming out of my speaker, or maybe I know how to set amps up better these days! Anyhow, great purchase and if you can give Vanderkley a try.

Then 999 was a bargain as maybe the seller wanted a quick sale? I've sold lots of basses well under the 'market value' as I've wanted a quick sale and I've also bought a good few at real knock down prices. IMO, the asking price is very reasonable for a bass of this caliber and the seller is accepting offers. -
I 'bought' Pauls little BQ250 head last month but due to the utter incompetence of the courier used the amp got lost and still is currently MiA. Such a shame 😪 Thankfully after much emailing and courier BS Paul managed to get refunded the value of the missing amp which was obviously passed onto my good self. 👍 So a big thank you to Paul with all his efforts in resolving this issue which must have been extremely frustrating. Another top Basschatter!

Not good at those prices. I keep looking at the RST basses on BD's website. My Euro is ok weight wise but I'd love to try one of these and should my band ever get its act together and start gigging, I'd like something really lightweight. As for the input socket. My Euro needs a new one desperately. What ones do you recommend? There's loads on eBay but I don't know if they'll be any good or not.

After some searching around it was an SR1000 EFM. I forgot just how nice they are and now I'd really like another!

Question. About 11 years ago I took a Ibanez bass in part exchange. Due to my poor finances at the time I sold it on pretty quick. But I remember it being a very nice bass indeed. Neck through, Bartolini soap bar pickups and a curved body like Spector/Warwick. I simply can't remember what it was and I'd quite like to check one out again.

Lovely basses. There was a Recurve listed that's sold now and it was stunning. I was close to seriously battering my credit card!

Well, I finally got around to fitting the strings on Sunday. They certainly are more mellow than the strings I had on before but what I'm finding is that I'm struggling to find mid frequencies that I'm comfortable with. I'm doubting that the strings have anything to do with this but more the preamp. I spent some time with the bass tinkering with the EQ on both the amp and bass. Amp being an EBS TD650 through an EBS Neo 2x10. And TBH struggling to find a pleasing sound but what I will say is the sound isn't bad and needs to be tried at volume with the band. It's likely that it'll sound phenomenal live and cut through like a knife but at home, it sounds nowhere near as good as my Roscoe bass (all Bartolini).

I have a set of Elixirs nickels coming today which (as mentioned above) will hopefully smooth things out and take away some of the zing. I'm pretty sure the strings on it are steels of some sort which I'm not keen on. Defiantly worth a try and if they do 'kill' the tone I can fit them to something else.

The preamp is going to play a huge part in the tone, probably more so than the pups. I'd be interested to know what preamps are fitted to the basses that aren't equipped with EMG's. I have a Roscoe bass with Bart pups and preamp and it sounds as sweet as a nut. I'd defiantly prefer a warmer tone in any of my basses.

Recently bought a Euro LX that was listed on here for quite a while. I really don't understand why it took so long to sell but hey-ho. I bought it to replace a heavier bass that I was struggling with when using in the band and I'm so glad I did. The bass is superb in both looks and quality. As mentioned above, the workmanship is outstanding having all the attributes of a hand made instrument that would cost a hell of a lot more. I briefly owned a Euro LX around 12 years ago and found the neck like a club, very chunky indeed. However the one on mine is much slimmer thankfully and a joy to play. I've not had the chance to use it at a band rehearsal yet and I'm hoping to get to grips with the TonePump before I do. I've spent a fair time getting familiar with it at home and I'm struggling to get a tone that I like BUT I'm fully aware that what sounds great in the spare room can sound crap on stage. If I decide that the EMG TP configuration is not working for me I'd be looking at changing them to something that potentially will. Aguilar pups and pre are fitted to Spectors so I'm wondering what the differences are between them? Have Bartolini ever been used or tried I wonder?
