  1. They'll be a bass-playing smartarse too, which is worse!
  2. I like a solid breakfast me, and have the same problem with any bass. I don't care. The main thing is to concentrate on what you're playing and have fun.
  3. Bach, Prince, Jaz Coleman, John Paul Jones and Gregorio Allegri. Edit: But not necessarily in that order.
  4. Er... shouldn't we be encouraging people to spend less, not more? For environmental reasons and so forth? Yes, I'm well aware of the fact that my feedback tells a sorry tale of consumerism and resource depletion on a grand scale, but surely we should be pretending to spend less, at least..?
  5. I think it's absolutely lovely - apart from the colour.
  6. Bad tort is ALWAYS terrible. Always....
  7. Good, the evidence and general consensus are stacking up!
  8. Gold looks good on the honey blonde Fender Classic 50s Precision. IMHO, anyway... and yes, if tort is to be used it has to be GOOD tort.
  9. So do these, which leads me to think they're getting on a bit. Still sound great, though. New, they're quite a bit cheaper than my usual favourite, La Bella 760FS, so come next 'flats purchase', I'll give 'em a go. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
  10. As far as I can tell with my cheap Chinese caliper, they seem to be 100-80-60-40. And a quick search of those gauges, along with the red silk clue, would point to Rotosound SM77 Monel Hybrid Flats, which are exactly those gauges. I think they must be fairly old as they don't have the current red, white and blue coloured ball-ends, just bronze-coloured. I didn't think of measuring the gauges though - thanks John.
  11. Possibly, but I've had those before and they're much lower tension than these. Thanks for the suggestion.
  12. Black, mint, gold, cream, parchment, tort. Anything else is actually illegal...
  13. I've got some flats as part of a deal which I really like, but don't know what they are. They have bronze-coloured ball ends with about an inch of red silk and red silk at the tuner end. They're very smooth and thumpy and judging by the silks are quite well played-in. Anyone know what brand they are? Thanks!
  14. My parts-build '70s' Jazz with Entwistle pickups.
  15. D'Addario EXL170BT 45-60-80-107 *NOW £12 Posted* These are the 'BT' or 'Balanced Tension' strings. Based on mathematically optimised string gauge combinations for even tension balance across the strings and greater dynamic control, it says here. Tried 'em, liked 'em, but preferred flats in the end. Cut for a 4-in-line Fender-type headstock. £12 including postage to your door. Payment via PayPal or Transfer please. Feedback in sig. I thank you!
  16. Nope. What's an 'acoustic guitar'?
  17. Not at all, I like white basses. White, Olympic White, Arctic White, Vintage White, Ivory, Cream, Chalk... Snow, Seashell, Cornstalk... Champagne, Bone, Vanilla, Flax... Eggshell, Ghost, Smoke, China, Cotton, Honeymilk... just not brown. So I like white basses. It's true - I give you my word as a gentleman AND as a lady.
  18. *SOLD* Status Hot Wire Half-Wounds 45-65-85-105-130 Five string set, obviously. Designed by Status and wound by hand in the UK. They are half-wounds, which means they're somewhere between flats and rounds - they have more of the feel and smoothness of a flat, but sound brighter, like a round. They're used, but uncut. 45-65-85-105-130. I happen to know that Status aren't currently offering half-wounds at the moment, they're looking for another manufacturer, so get in! Ignore what it says on the packet, pic is 'for information only'. I'm after £16 including postage to your dwelling, via PayPal or Bank Transfer. Feedback is in my sig. Now SOLD. I thank you!
  19. No. But don't listen to me, I just don't like brown basses. Or green ones. Or blue ones. Or purple ones...
  20. Oh, come on. I'd be an ideal candidate for a sig bass, me. I can just see the Fender boardroom now... 'There's a completely unknown middle-aged bloke in Sydenham who plays bass now and then. He is fat. Let's do him a signature!'
