Yes, just which Merlin are you? I feel you're not new to the forum...
  2. Good work! The SoundQuest™ can take up mountains of time, but ultimately is a noble enterprise. Expect to see a lot less of your family/partner/dog, etc.
  3. I liked InkScape. It does vector graphics too if I remember rightly, so you can size stuff up without it pixellating all over the place.
  4. I think you have to say 'unprincipled Romany', now.
  5. If you can activate 'Options > Hide' within PMs that would work just as well!
  6. Ah-haa! There it is! Nice work. Now... can you find an option to delete posts within a conversation..?
  7. When the new site first appeared, within PMs there was 'Multiquote, Quote and Edit' at bottom left, and 'Report Reply' at top right. And it was possible to edit. Now 'Edit' has gone, and obviously it's not possible to Edit any more.
  8. Because it's not possible to edit, and it's not possible to delete posts within a conversation, two things I've become used to doing with the old system. If I have to carefully consider everything I post in a PM without being able to delete and/or edit, it's going to take a long time for me to communicate with anyone! It's OK though, I'm sure you have much more important things to be doing at this stage.
  9. Not happy about PMs, reluctant to use the messaging system. I do realise it's probably not a priority, however.
  10. Woah! I'm out. Have fun, post your results.
  11. So the Purple Haze P for you - presumably with a maple neck/board? Their prices seem reasonable, at least for the stuff they have in stock.
  12. You're down the rabbit hole, there! So many different parameters have an effect on sustain -allegedly. I await the results of your experiments with interest, while very much standing on the sidelines of opinion! Increased sustain on a bass isn't something I've aspired to, which is probably why I know very little about it...
  13. White and maple, mmm... I'd like to rescue this, but it's just too much of a hike.
  14. Experiments are good. Everyone says the steel saddles are brighter, but whenever I use a bridge with brass saddles (which supposedly give a more 'mellow' tone) I find that in practise, brass is actually brighter-sounding. Going against a lot of received wisdom here - maybe I need my ears syringing.
  15. I'd certainly like to see that. I didn't know they did custom work, is that a new thing for them?
  16. I'd be interested to see how that goes. I've got the stock brass saddles in there and they seem fine. Does it make any difference to have the same material at each end of the string..? Replacing the saddles with nut material would be a lot easier than fitting a brass nut...
  17. That's what I'm doing, Ultralites and a Hipshot KickAss. Heavier overall, but much better balance on the strap. 7.5lbs.
  18. It might! I'm going to find out one way or another! For a light, well-balanced bass it may be an idea to go down the neck-through route, do away with the neck joint altogether and fit light body 'wings', similar to the neck-through Spectors et al. But then of course you're getting away from what a P bass or a J bass essentially is, assuming that's what you wanted. I'm sure some people wouldn't mind that at all. Headless basses are a good solution for light weight and strap balance, but... I just don't like the look of 'em. Or to be more accurate, I don't like the thought of what I'd look like playing one. Yes, I'm shallow.
  19. This, I SHOULD like (white, black guard, maple...) but for some reason... I don't.
