My account is currently suspended after I tried to send my phone No to a seller who posted very little info about an item they were selling. No weight, hardwear info or info on the timbers on a custom bass - I was hoping to discuss the item before bidding - Ebay not understanding about this and read me the riot act.
This surprises me. eBay have given sellers a hard time for years, but usually find in favour of the buyer. If they're going to alienate everyone, they'll very quickly have no business. eBay used to have a community feel, but it would seem greed has got the better of them.

Why do I keep coming back to have a look at this?
discreet replied to thebrig's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Aggghhh! My eyes!!! -
If I lived local, I'd be going to have a look at that.* *Not that it's possible anymore, thanks to eBay's insane new contact rules.
I did not know that. How are you supposed to do cash on collection? It's collection-only.
zero feedback and awesome photos inspires soooooo much confidence
Quite, I wouldn't. Just noticed the position of the thumb rest - would date it to around 1974-1976. If genuine.

difference recording drums with 4 mics or more
discreet replied to fiatcoupe432's topic in Recording
If you're not an expert at multi-mike drum recording, it's much easier to record with a stereo pair. The trick is to have a drummer that can (1) play, and (2) really knows how to tune the drums to get a great sound in the room. -
Ahh, you've thought this through. As long as you're getting another bass, I'd go for it... what could possibly go wrong?
-
I don't know, but it may be an idea to pick up an affordable fretless neck and see if you like it. Then you have options.
The deed is done. This is my funeral bass. I call it that because if my wife finds out what it cost she would kill me.
Nice work. Make sure it's placed in your coffin...
70s style headstock logo. Maybe a misprint and should read 72?
Could be. It's only at £50... will be interesting to see what it goes for.
...didn't think a 3k credit card bill was the best start to wedded life...
You should have started as you meant to go on...
BUT, unlike many who continue to search, I HAVE been lucky enough to play my dream bass, so now I KNOW.
You going to share it with us, then? Or is it still the Pre-CBS P?
-
Somewhere between 1969 and 1976, possibly. Mocha brown? Should be a black guard.
...can`t make up my mind whether white in keeping with the punk tradition...
Sid Vicious, Dee Dee Ramone and Paul Simonon.
Pre-CBS Fender P...
Or Pre-CBS Fender J, it's all good...
Where did you get enough balsa wood to build a sub-8lb Jazz?
Paulownia is similar to balsa in a lot of ways. It's not quite as fragile as balsa, but it is very light and any little knock will ding it. It's difficult to avoid over-sanding it, even with light papers. I think it's worth persevering with though, just because of the huge weight advantage.
Love the sound clip, funky as hell, and great playing... what's the track? How did you put together the other drum and guitar parts ?
Thanks, though having listened to it again this morning I'm kind of wishing I'd tuned the bass up first... The track is one of the many backing tracks available on YouTube for the purposes of noodling along with your bass. There are loads of 'em.
...I don't want Mr Entwistle to hike the price of his pickups - because those of us in the know are quite happy with the prices as they are...
I'm happy too! It's just that thing of 'expensive = good' - as we know, it doesn't always follow.
...if it were mine, I'd have to put those stick-on blocks on the fretboard...
I can do you one with proper blocks and binding, if that's what you want...
Mark, these could be words uttered by me as well, and I`m yet to work it out.
It's definitely one for Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious Universe and no mistake! Strap buttons fitted... there is a little neck dive, but overall the bass is so light it's not a big problem. I still may go with the Ultralites, purely to see if I can get the bass down to around 7lbs.
You need to try an ABM EVO IV 600 and take it from that point.
Absolutely. I think the old 'woolly sound' reputation comes from the fact that the 'shape' (i.e. scooped sound) control is activated by default and you have to be sure that it's OFF. Then the amp will be beautifully clear, articulate and powerful, with loads of (whisper it) HEFT! The EVO IV 600 has one of the best EQ sections in the business in my opinion.
It's all in the wrist..?
...and the palm.
That sounds great - are you playing it with a pick in that example?
I am, being mainly a pick player. I play fingerstyle too, though.

Looks too good to be true. I wonder how far in you have to go before some kind of fee becomes payable..?
