To cheer y'all up now that Autumn's comin'......
discreet replied to Jazzneck's topic in General Discussion
I like Autumn, or as it is increasingly and annoyingly referred to, 'fall'. Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness... it's all a question of positivity and optimism. If winter is close, can spring be far away? -

'Ello 'ello 'ello, what's a-goin' on 'ere, then..? *takes out notebook, licks pencil*... -
It's a load of fun. Which is a tremendous value - playing for the joy of it.
I have come to realise that since I posted this comment. I like rehearsing too, but would rather see it as a means to an end. My opinion only.
...The worst that can happen is the punters remember the daft sod with the offensive T shirt and the stupid bass...
Dr.Dave!! Please do tell us in what way the t-shirt is offensive! -
I love it, but then I'm crap with colours, or so my wife keeps telling me.
That's OK... to be 'good with colours' is a euphemism. Apparently. -
Why does everyone posting here seem to be insisting theirs is the only right way? Some like to play for its own sake with a few pals, some like to play for a living, some like to do the occasional gig, etc, etc. So what? Different strokes for different folks. I've played as a hobby and for a part and full living. I'm currently back to being a hobbyist. I enjoy it. End of.
Very good. My problem is (or was) bands who claim to be gigging and then turn out to be not gigging. Not only that, but they have no intention of gigging and got me in the band under false pretences. Silly really - do they think I'm somehow not going to notice the lack of gigs??
...I really don't like a sunburst finish on a Precision or Jazz, but I think it suits a Stratocaster perfectly. I couldn't even begin to explain why...
I like sunburst on vintage basses with 'real' tort, but I don't like modern sunburst finishes. As far as a Strat goes... well that's a guitar so therefore it's irrelevant what colour it is. But yes, there's no explaining preferences really. -
...I've never seen a bass or guitar that I thoight it looked good on.
The problem is, there's tort and there's tort. Most modern tort is rubbish and looks like sliced salami. The only acceptable tort is genuine period vintage tort OR Spitfire tort. The 3-D tort that looks as if you could lose yourself in it... Mmmm, real tort... https://spitfiretort...res-and-styles/ And then only on a white, cream, vintage white or sunburst bass... and possibly Shoreline or Firemist Gold under certain circumstances. Tort should never be seen on any sort of blue, black, green, purple or red bass. With the possible exception of Fiesta Red, but only if its VERY faded. Edit. IMHO, of course. -
...wondered if I've broken some little known bass law...
I'm afraid you're under arrest. Tort and black is an illegal combination, as I'm sure you well know, sir...
...black or white...
+1 Given a black bass, it's a black or white guard. If you want something exotic, gold is acceptable... at a pinch... -
You read your Pm's from me yet, young Michael...? Would be sacrilege to make it into a Paisley Bass?
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Oh well, it's up to you of course.

Wow, thats name-dropping!! I think flats would be ideal on this one. Chunky LaBellas for preference.
Those HB Teles are pretty terrible, tonally. Whether the bridge pup is enough to rescue it is something you'll have to find out for yourself...

I played an unmodified one Keith and, while it felt good in the hand, it sucked soundwise.
True and true... however, as it's already been modified I'd be very tempted to fit a split P pickup in the usual place. With cream covers, of course.
I do hope that two men in overalls were carrying a large pane of glass across the road at exactly the right moment?
No, but there were some painters, one of whom turned and hit the other with a plank he was carrying, and knocked him face-first into a shallow tray of whitewash...

'Unable to drive through drink or drugs'. Makes you wonder why these professional racing cyclists bother.
My wife saw a car clip a curb and overturn right in front of her last week. They were going aproxomatly 30mph.
I've seen that, a car hit a traffic island and overturned as I was driving towards it on the other side of the road. One of the wheels came off and bounced towards me. Luckily I was frozen with fear and did nothing - the wheel missed me. Again, he was only doing 25-30 mph at the most.
-
I'm going to give it a play and see if I can revert to 4 strings now....!
That's the spirit! By the way, does the truss rod work properly..? You know, just asking...
-
He's asking £1300 but intimated it could go for less...
I'd go for that like a shot... especially if less. And if I had the folding, obviously.
-
It's a good price but has been modded, there again it has loads of Mojo.....I'm torn! ( and a 5 string player but it is so f***ing cool!!!)
Will you regret letting it slip through your fingers, though?? I know, you could buy it, admire it for a month or two, then sell it to me.
-
I like it... depends what the asking price is, obviously. And I'd have to change the bridge and tuners for stock items, or close. Nice-looking bass though, I could bear to have it in the house, no problem.
Why isn’t it available? Is it unavailable or is Limelight keeping it secret?
Let's say Limelight isn't forthcoming with the information. And we're derailing this NBD thread!
-
What are used as the donor body and neck? What’s the origin? Just interested, that’s all.
That information, as with the origin of pickups, is not available. However every Limelight I've owned has been first rate as far as sound and playability goes.
Are they complete new builds or actual fenders which have been worked on ?
They're new builds.
Wasn't there a popular beat combo back in the 60s who did something similar? I think they took over Abbey Road for ages and ages, and then released a record with a silly name?
Yes - they got fed up with playing thousands of gigs abroad for drunken sailors, then playing stadia full of young girls who screamed so loudly you couldn't hear the music...
-
...going to see other bands doing a similar thing and talking to those bands...
I like that idea, I'm good at making a nuisance of myself...
-
...it's not an entirely new phenomenon: Kate Bush is probably the most famous example of someone who decided she didn't much like gigging and just ensconced herself in the recording studio. There are groups like Big Big Train who seem content to play two shows a year.
Both have an established audience who eagerly await any recording or performance. Bit different to rehearsing in a railway arch every week and playing the Dog and Duck twice a year.
