1.
...Heft is the sole preserve of conventional power amps supplied by big iron™ as any fule kno.
Yes, and so is 'Girth'.
 2.
What many do not realise is that he had two other brothers, Heft and Girth, who died alongside King Harold at the Battle of Hastings.
Not forgetting plucky Dane Ohm Siemens, whose resistance led ultimately to the development of the paper cone transducer.
 3. As per title... http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/117118252/fender-squire-jazz-bass-hardly-used.html?link=%2Fsearch%3Fkeyword%3Dbass%2Bguitar%26page%3D2
 4. Ahhh... Chuck made it sound easy... there's the rub.
Maybe too soon, but has anybody seen or considered doing a Chuck tribute show at all?
Getting a convincing 'Chuck' is going to be the problem there, hence this thread. Not so much a drummer and bass player... no-one remembers them as they were whoever turned up on the day...
 5. Chay bought a cable. Fast payment, great comms, all good.
 6.
...I had a schaller diconnect itself and drop my first Fender bass onto the floor during a rehearsal in the early 80s.
I've had incidents with both Schaller and Dunlop. Been using Loxx for quite a while and no issues... yet.
 7.
I think it is good to experience both but generally it is better to be around musicians that force you to stretch yourself more.

Always better to raise your game than languish in a comfort zone.

I'd much rather play with people better than me who force me to raise my game, even if it puts me under the cosh a bit initially.
Plus one to all of this. My problem is in finding people who are better than me.
 8. Fender 3-Bolt 'F'-Stamp Plate A genuine Fender item in fair 'used' condition - slight blemish near the top left screw hole, but the chrome plate isn't compromised. Now surplus to requirements as I've decided to use a four-bolt square plate instead. £7 via bank transfer including postage. I thank you!
 9.
Will be sorry not to see you Mark; hopefully next year instead?
I hope so Nik, I was really looking forward to this year but it can't be helped.
 10. A late-notice event means I will not be available on Saturday, so I'm out - sorry, folks.
 11. *SOLD* 'Aged Pearl' Inlay Sticker Blocks for Jazz Bass *£7 Posted* H\igh-quality 'aged pearl' fret marker inlay sticker blocks for a Jazz Bass. Would work well on a Rosewood board and look stunning on a tinted or aged maple board. My design plans for my new Jazz assemblage have changed direction somewhat and these are now surplus to requirements. Ordered in from Japan at great expense! Just £7 via bank transfer will see them winging their way to your domestic or business environment. I thank you!
 12.
If its a head and cab you use, how do you stop the head from moving when the cab is tilted back?
Hook the front amp feet over the front edge of the cab.
 13.
Where coupling is concerned that happens when the cab is less than 1/4 wavelength from a boundary, be it floor or wall. 1 meter is 1/4 wavelength at 85Hz, so you won't lose low end coupling with even a tall stand.
This. You don't lose coupling on most stands. I use one of these. Adjustable, portable and affordable.
 14.
The break angle over the saddles or nut can make a difference it seems.
That could be it. I know that if you don't take care to get a good break angle over the nut on a Fender-style bass, particularly on the A string, you can have problems.
 15. There is also the question of how hard you play... I know some people like to tickle the strings, in which case a low action is more appropriate. But I tend to play relatively hard, whether with fingers or pick. I've tried playing softly and letting the amp do the work, but all that goes out of the window as soon as I get excited about something. Lack of control and crap technique, obviously.
 16. Another fine transaction with Tom, this time I bought a Jazz control plate with gubbins... all good as before, great comms, super-fast delivery and well-packed. Would not hesitate to deal again. Thanks!
 17. I've thought for a long time that a higher action sounds better and try to play with the highest action possible (within the bounds of playability). I prefer a low action like yourself, but the tone always seems a bit choked to me. As for open strings sounding better with high action - the open strings still have more room to vibrate over the pickup as they're that much further away, regardless of whether you're fretting or not. My opinion only - I'm no scientist.
 18.
If you open one of the Speakons, you will be able to see whether there are 2 or 4 wires. Thickness a little more difficult. It may say something like 2x2.5 on the cable jacket. The reason I ask is I'm after a 4 core, in either 4mm (preferably) or 2.5 conductor thickness.
There are definitely only two terminals inside the Speakon capsule. And the cable is thinner than my OBBM cables (which are 4mm) so I can only conclude it is 2.5mm thickness. So I don't think this is the cable you're looking for, sorry. But thanks for the info.
 19.
2 or 4 core and what thickness are the conductors, please?
Sorry, I don't know and don't know how to find out. Suggestions?
