That is dangerously close to saying it's all in the fingers!!
It is. There, I said it.
So is the consensus that the US ones are the more preferred choice? Ta Mike
Predictably I'll say the Fender Road Worn P is up there with the very best of 'em, though it be a MIM. Plays and sounds better than a lot of USAs I've played, including my 1976 P. Best bang for your buck, especially second hand. Having said that, I'm close to being sure that how any P Bass sounds is largely down to how it's played, by whom, and in what context.

James bought a cab from me in what was a smooth and painless transaction. Enjoy the cab! Would not hesitate to deal with again.

Thanks John, good spot.

I can't afford to have gear hanging around that I'm not using, so there we have it, I must be pragmatic - despite the fact that this is one of the best cabs I've had. It is as-new, unmarked and in the same condition as it was when it first arrived from Barefaced. Which, considering an identical cab from Barefaced (without the cover and plus shipping and cloth grille) would cost you £588, is something of a bargain. Jeff bought a strap in a very smooth transaction. Fast payment, great comms, all good.
-
Iggy and the Stooges. There would be no dinner.
-
Spector Coda-ish. At least, in appearance...
-
Had cause to learn a few BH covers recently and was surprised. Apparently simple songs, but with quite sophisticated arrangements and clever modulation. A talent lost too soon, I feel.
...who only needs two strings?
Mark Sandman.

It's a bargain - the 4-string version is £18,000.
-
Oh Lordy, I wouldn't even pee on it.

And you could simply have seen all the new content.
Digging in for every single thing you play just doesn't give any room for dynamics. Fine if you're playing fast punk, but it's not how I'd like to play at least.
It took me ages to relax enough at gigs to play without thrashing the crap out of my bass. You're right about dynamics. It's good to have 'thrashing the crap' as an option, however. Depending on material, context and genre, as you say.
Good, I'll give them a call, can't work out how to insure more than one item on line. I never claimed to be clever!
As far as I remember, you add stuff one at a time by, er... pressing the 'add' button, then it puts it all on the same policy. I could be wrong of course as it was a while back now, so ringing them is probably a good idea.
-
I've got all my gear insured with them on one policy. Very reasonable price given the cover, i.e. unattended in car overnight, etc. Not that I'd ever leave gear unattended in car overnight, but I'm a bit belt-and-braces, me. Plus they reply to emails super-quickly and are on the ball.
It REALLY is all in the hands more than the instrument.
Yes! But it also helps to have a good-sounding instrument as well. I prefer a low action, but I find a higher action results in a much better overall sound, even though this makes the bass slightly more difficult to play. It's worth the effort.
WD Music. Would definitely recommend them, they take custom requests too - I opted for no thumb rest/pickup cover holes
Thanks for that, but I'm keeping my gold anodized. My OCD demands it. Edit: Come to think of it mines a Road Worn, so perhaps it doesn't have the feel of a new gold guard?
-
Sold Lee a bridge. Fast payment, great comms, smooth transaction, all good. Would definitely deal with again.
-
But how can you keep the '57 vibe without a gold anodized guard? Why do you need to touch the guard during normal playing? (I can see it if using a pick). And where are you getting these compatible 10-hole guards from..?
