1. Every time I offer up my own DI box or amp with a DI out, the sound guy snorts, rolls his eyes, gives me a withering look and connects the box he brought with him.
 2.
Finally Fender come up with some great sounding and playing basses and all anyone can do now is gripe about the colours!!
Yeah, but what's more important??
 3.
My god, those are hideous! I don't know where they're made, but they must have some good drugs there.
They can be a bit Marmite... thing is though, when you looked at the gallery I bet you weren't thinking about colour options.
 4.
...how would you set relief without a truss rod?
It's Wishful thinking. Arf, arf. Actually you can specify a truss rod, but it's an extra $100. Well worth it, I would have thought. http://www.wishbass.com/gallery.html
 5.
...did you know that it really screws up a chainsaw blade when it hits the truss rod?
Yes, it does. Try reducing chainsaw wear by cutting up Wishbasses - they don't have truss rods.
 6.
In that case, I'll have my three tort-equipped Fenders destroyed immediately. I'll miss them, they're good basses, but obviously they have to go now. Chainsaw and log burner should sort them out.
Just burn the tort!
 7. He was a huge influence on me, too. RIP.
 8.
But you've still got to have a tort guard with white. It won't play in tune if you don't.
Heh. I will also accept gold anodized, cream/black/cream, black/white/black and mint/black/mint. Tort's favourite BUT only if it's vintage tort or Spitfire tort. Both expensive I know, but modern tort is an abomination which is totally unacceptable. .
 9.
90% of bassists are probably happy with the basic colours anyway.
'Twas ever thus. I don't like black - or sunburst since the tort went crap - but am perfectly happy with white.
 10. Fender never, ever do the right thing. It's not surprising that other companies benefit from Fender's lack of choice regarding colour, neck options, headstock shape, pickup configuration and even pickguard colour and design. Still... Lakland make nice Fenders.
 11.
I think you are entirely correct, and yes, the roadworn's are definitely underrated, I don't know, somehow they just feel like cheating to me
There was a long thread on the 'cheating' topic on TalkBass when the Road Worns first appeared. It took a good few pages before anyone actually asked what they played or sounded like. I have no issues with a relic, if it's done well. In any case I bought a new Fender and played it for 40 years, so I reckon I've paid my dues. It's simply a question of logistics. If I did it all over again I'd be 97 by the time the bass looked authentically 'cool'. And of course I would not...
 12.
But don't you just hate not being in control?
Yes, but you'd better get used to it because you rarely are.
 13.
Holland was on his case in a trice (whatever a trice is).
It's a small keyring with a picture of a horse on it.
...leave loads of space, and keep it simple. Bass is a rhythm instrument in a band context, not a poser lead, look at me shredding job.
It took me longer than it should have to realise that bass-playing is not about oneself, but about playing what is right for the song. It helps if you're of the opinion that electric bass is not a solo instrument.
 14. Nothing ups your game quicker than playing in a band. And the better the other musicians are, the better you will be. In particular, a really good drummer will unlock the secrets of groove. You can be a bedroom noodler for years, yet miss out on essential knowledge. Playing live can be a steep learning curve but it's well worth the effort.
 15.
Yeah, the roadworn is fantastic as a deliberately reliced bass but it is still a reliced bass with a craftsman making it look old not genuine wear caused by years of love and gigging, given the spare cash I would have this one in a heartbeat whereas I am actually thinking of trading the roadworn out and sticking with my 50's classic and getting that nice and worn through years of gigging and love
All that love and wear won't make a lot of difference to the overall sound though, in my opinion. I had a 76 P which I bought in 76 and played for many decades. Sounded great, looked great, went all creamy, had genuine wear etc etc. but this didn't make much difference to how it sounded from new. The Road Worns are really great and in my view vastly underrated instruments and I'd challenge anyone to tell the difference between one and a genuine late 50s P, all other things being equal. Any difference in tone will be marginal and I really don't think it's an extra eight grands's worth. My opinion, of course. And I do realise that playing basses and collecting them are two different (but not mutually exclusive) activities. The visual 'relic' aspect of the Road Worn basses is a red herring and largely irrelevant in my view. The important point is that they have a sound and a playability that the 50s Classic instruments do not have. They are the closest you are going to get to a genuine vintage P for £600 second-hand and are still a bargain at retail. Having said all that, if I were seriously loaded I'd have late 50s and early 60s P basses, 60s and 70s Jazz basses, 70s SVT rigs and 60s B15s coming out of my arse and cluttering up my many houses!
 16. Wow. I'd go for it - if I was loaded. Instead, I saved myself at least eight grand and bought a Road Worn. Edit: I see you did as well.
 17.
Just Rebops, but I love them...
Nice. I still have a hankering for a matte blue bop with maple neck...
 18. It's true, the more you play the better you get. There are some good players on YT, but I've found a lot of the covers to be wildly inaccurate. IMHO, YMMV etc.
 19. Nice. It's important for a man to have his own space...
 20.
On a serious side the answer is still no.
So you have one? In your opinion is it usable in any way for gigs or would you regard it as a Studio/Home/Preamp only?
 21.
There are 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Hee hee.
 22.
Why not apply, see what they say ?
They'll probably say, 'You're not a lady or a non-binary person', I should imagine.
 23.
Kinda interested but I suspect a lot of us found what we were looking for with the Sansamp stuff.
+1. The new Ampeg pedals would have to go some to beat the Tech 21 VT Bass.
