1.
As time goes by they will become less and less well known, none of the young people I work with could name all of the Beatles, some of them couldn't name one or tell you a song they did. I know there's always "my neice is 11 and loves them" etc, it's a fraction of the under 20s that feel that way.
Yes, but some kids don't know who Hitler was, or Churchill, or can even name the current prime minister, er... old what's-er-name. I think it was George Santayana who said, 'Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it'. Which is why every generation makes the same mistakes.
 2.
...there are a few manufacturers who build in mid-range humps to increased perceived loudness. To my ears they tend to sound bloody horrible. Nasal, harsh and 'gritty but they do appear 'louder' and this makes some people really like them because of the old 'louder = better' argument
Mostly true, but I will vouch for the low-mid bump present in the Schroeder 1212L... yes, it sounds a little nasal when you play solo, but at a real-world gig, in a mix, that becomes very audible lushness and the cab sounds fantastic. A really great cab if you want to be heard live, regardless. Edit: Great, now I've got Schroeder 1212L GAS.
 3. I'd like to see it purely because I'm a sucker for Beatles history, there's previously unseen footage and despite Ron Howard not exactly being my favourite director, he does know how to tell a good story in a positive way. I bet it rattles along pretty sharpish. And I could do with cheering up. Plus, it's a documentary and not some God-awful coke-fuelled plagiarised Hollywood bullcrap. Again.
 4. Good to hear that people are actually receiving their goods. I still haven't though, predictably.
 5.
I am beginning to wonder whether it's worth taking a punt on a Barefaced 2x12 or something (although I do like bigger cabinetry behind me).
A Barefaced 2X12 IS bigger cabinetry! ...All is relative.
 6. Er... 'Why?' Is the question that springs to mind...
 7.
Bass on hold...
On the one hand I'm relieved, on the other I'm disappointed...
 8. SOLD: Diamond BCP-1 Bass Compressor PRICE DROP - £135 including Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day I'm sure you know what you're looking at if you're reading this - but just in case, here are a few links for you: http://www.ovnilab.c...diamobass.shtml http://www.bass-peda...ss-comp-review/ https://www.thomann...._compressor.htm This is one of the best bass compressor pedals out there, if not THE best. Having said that, if you want a fully-functional studio-type compressor with attack, threshold, ratio controls and so on and you're looking for a purely remedial compressor then you'd probably be better off with something else. However... if you want a box that you can't get a bad sound out of, nicely balances the output across your strings and also imparts huge phatness and big professional gloss to your sound, then you need this circuit in your signal path. It's supremely easy to use - and the Tilt EQ facility is the icing on the cake. I used the Diamond EQ instead of my Markbass SA450's para mid EQ, it's that good. Top build-quality and premium components are used. Selling because my immediate priority is a backup amp. I'm going to miss this box hugely and I have no doubt that I'll be getting another in the fullness of time. I'm asking £135 and that includes despatch via Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day before 1pm - for your peace of mind (and mine). Also included is the original box and 18V centre-positive PSU. There are rubber feet on the bottom, but these can very easily be removed if necessary. Payment via bank transfer and no trades thanks - G-K MB200 excepted. My feedback link is in my sig. I thank you!
 9. I'm getting very close to one bass and one rig... not quite there, but close...
 10. You could try these... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mackie-CR4-inch-Monitor-Speakers/dp/B00OZ9NNCY/ref=pd_lpo_267_bs_t_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=B7V1HK234NM59WST5ZFB However, I'm sorry to say you won't get decent studio monitors on your budget. But you probably knew that already.
 11.
...a home isn't a home without a bass rig.
And a woman to complain about it.
 12.
You can go off people you know
13.
I'm desperately trying to unsee that Markbass TTE501 that went up this morning.
What, this one..?
 14. Maybe it's because there are so many elements in the band, all requiring their sonic space? Your sound guy probably thinks the guitars, brass, vocals, keys et al are more 'important' than the bass. Which is a load of tosh of course, but I bet it's something like that. It's a pain in the arse having to fight for your frequency space, which is why I generally restrict myself to bands with fewer members in them... I usually insist on my own 'stage monitor' too, which of course is a 500W rig...
 15.
A guitar playing pal of mine had a harness made, that sits on both shoulders and spreads the weight. He swears by it. They are available commercially, for example, http://www.slingerst...tar-strap.html.
That looks good, but I'm afeared the belt part wouldn't fit round my muscular frame...
 16.
Oh same here... I was joking. Anyway I'm not selling
I'm probably on the autism scale, I need a great big grinning smiley to get the point. I'm not selling either, my current Road Worn P is the one for me. I want to get back to having one bass and resist GAS.* * Yes, I know.
 17.
Why isn't everyone answering along the lines of "Buy a bass with provenance? I give basses their provenance" ? There's too much low self esteem around here.
Er... all well and good, but I doubt anyone would pay a premium for a bass that I've owned. The response is likely to be, 'who??'
 18. It really depends if you're buying a bass as a collector or a player. If I were a collector, then maybe (depending on the 'name' and with proof), but as a player it matters not a jot who the previous owner was. The bass is what it is and it's going to be me playing it, situation normal.
 19. This would be a nice partner for my RW P... and I'm in the right part of the country! Hngggg!!
 20.
This is stunning. If I had the cash it would be on it's way to you.
Thanks very much. In answer to one or two questions, the nut width is 42mm and the neck is 22mm front to back at the first fret. I don't know what the fretboard radius is, but it seems quite flat compared with Fenders (for example). Certainly flatter than a 7.25 or 9.25-inch board. Bass is showing 8.6lbs on my bathroom scales. Knowing my scales as I do, I'm going to estimate the actual weight at a tad under 9lbs, certainly no more than that. Hope this helps.
He has made a decision and decided that a sale is the best course of action for him.
Thanks, Gary... though I probably will regret selling it, as I always do! However over the last couple of years I've become less of a collector and more of a player and ultimately my P Bass is the only tool I really need. Just as it was for the 36 years between first picking up a bass and joining Basschat, six years ago... It's been a lot of fun, but it turns out I was right in the first place... a good P Bass is a joy forever. Less is more.
 21.
My introduction to bass was via an Avon SG copy bass of some sort, it was awful (imo ) ok it was a copy but I've found the things I disliked the most about it were all present on the real ones, I bought a Peavey Foundation in 1993 and it was a revelation and my playing improved hugely,I've never looked back.
My first bass was an Avon SG copy, too! 1974! Hope it wasn't the same one!
