1.
Let's just hope Discreet doesn't find this thread
Too late! *Emerges from wardrobe wearing Batman costume*
 2. Fantastic amp. The perfect back-up, sounds amazing and is much, much louder than you'd expect for 200W @ 4 ohms. You can gig with one of these, no problem. Excellent.
 3.
It is particularly virulent amongst men of a certain age...
Oi.
 4. Will keep my eyes peeled and ears open. Sorry to hear about it. Bastards.
 5. Trumpet > Piano > Organ > Classical Guitar > Electronic Keyboards > Electric Guitar > Bass. Consider bass to be my main instrument now, but it was very useful to take this unusual path to it.
 6.
What does GAS mean?
Just to be pedantic: GAS = Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
 7. Sounds like you already know what's going to happen, you just have to bite the bullet. There are any number of drummers who are 'lovely blokes', but don't confuse this with 'lovely blokes who can play the drums', they are rare and exotic animals. Keep the lovely bloke for social occasions and get the drummer who can play. As said above, if you don't have a good drummer then you don't have a band, it's that simple. I've wasted lots of time with lovely blokes who can't play, but no more. If you want to cut it, you can't have any passengers, everyone has to be good. I would also make the point that it's often the drummer who gets the blame for bad timing - and of course a drummer needs to have good timing - but timing and tempo are the responsibility of the entire band, not just the drummer.
 8.
It can also be if the string was put on with a slight twist in it. Some like to wrap the string around the tuner to speed things up, and if the ball end doesn't rotate to compensate, you end up tightening up a twisted string.
This. It's important to put the string on 'straight'. Even more important with the B string on a fiver. Also if you're going to have a duff string in a 4-set it's usually the E, so if that's the case AND you fit it twisted, it all goes a bit tits-up. Thunk!
 9.
I guess we're nomming stuff that are among the best known riffs but also less tricky to suss than famous but harder to master lines like Rhythm Stick, I Wish, The Real Me etc?
I don't think 'Want You Back' or 'Reach Out' are particularly easy to learn. They're quite famous songs.
 10. Not my favourites, not necessarily essential, even... just a random selection from the lines I've been obliged to learn over the years. When playing in covers bands, obviously... I Want You Back - Jackson 5 Blind Man - Black Stone Cherry Soul Man - Sam and Dave Reach Out (I'll Be There) - Four Tops Unchain My Heart - Ray Charles Sex Type Thing - Stone Temple Pilots Vertigo - U2 Canned Heat - Jamiroquai Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You - Bob Dylan What Is And What Should Never Be - Led Zeppelin
 11.
Yeah, but they're drummers.Bass players are superior beings who always know exactly where everything is, including their towels.
[Shows age] Sass that hoopy FinnDave - there's a frood who really knows where his towel is. [/Shows age]
 12. What a load of rubbish. A classic vintage P or J with no 'elephant's ears' or 'lollipops'..? Nay, nay and thrice nay! And you only have to misplace the 'radiator key' just once to be right in excrement bay without a means of propulsion. Look at the way drummers carry on with their drum keys - i.e. they're always losing them. I decree it's not an issue and this thread is spurious! End communication! Hup! *Flies off over the horizon, cape billowing*
 13.
I'd suggest a medical solution would be more appropriate.
Some kind of opiate, perhaps? Then you wouldn't care less.
 14. If you cut your strings super short so you get only one or two turns, it's easier to line up the tuners, a la Les Claypool. I prefer uncut strings, however...
 15.
I was thinking of a paddle with a central sleeve that slides over the tuning peg shaft and is secured with a grub screw.
Ooh, those grub screws are going to go AWOL. Mind you, my idea probably means the entire paddle will go AWOL...
 16.
We need a tuning peg with adjustable ears. Tune up, then adjust ears to a pleasing pattern.
Maybe a tuner with a removable 'paddle' that fits into a splined socket? Tune up, pull out the paddle and re-locate as necessary. Yes, I realise that thinking about such things implies too much time on one's hands.
 17. Can we assume that you suffer from this problem..? I don't of course - but a friend of mine says it's easy to achieve a good tuner line-up, with practice...
 18. I've had several over the years. If you like gigging lite, like I do, it's a whole lot easier to haul than a tubular amp stand. Works well and will angle a cab so you can hear it on stage and not just have it firing at your ankles. You pay for the design, efficiency and portability. How much the raw materials cost is irrelevant, IMHO. It is a Markbass product after all...
 19. If I'm not actually playing with a drummer in a band and/or want a rest from all that, I like isolated drum tracks on YouTube, too. You can play with some really top-rank drummers and it's good to hear how they do things. Playing with people better than yourself really improves your chops...
 20. Think I'll continue to pay my monthly music insurance premiums instead...
 21.
Sounds like someone needs a man-bag.
That's no way to refer to someone's partner.
 22.
And I just discovered today that basswood isn't pronounced basswood, it's pronounced basswood! D'oh!
Quite. Like the fish, not the instrument. Known as 'Lime' in the UK...
