1.
...if your in the market for a pre-loved instrument without aggressive sales technique and dodgy valuations, come on down to 'Honest Shambo's Used Bass Emporium', just off junction 7, next door to the moral high ground.
I look forward to snapping up your cheap basses and selling them on at a profit. Hurry up.
 2. Fantastic. Creamy white, maple and mint is one of the hottest colour schemes, imho. But now I have Limelight GAS again...
 3. Just play 'em. Fat Beams are up there with the very best rounds, imho. If you want super-slick, get some La Bella flats!
 4. Had a similar experience when I dabbled with five-string bass and gave it up as a bad job in the end. It's a whole different instrument and the added weight, expense, investment of time and overall inconvenience involved just for a few extra notes and/or different fingering positions just weren't worth it in the end - in my opinion. Also the B-string always felt like a bit of an afterthought to me and I found it necessary to address it differently from the other four strings to get a decent sound out of it, which was a constant source of irritation. And I found changing from four to five strings and back again a right pain in the arse. Boo! Having said that, I think if you stuck with a fiver exclusively you'd have no problem, but I wasn't prepared to sell my four stringers or just have them hanging around doing nothing for the rest of time. So I moved on my fiver. Your mileage may vary, of course.
 5.
Think my partner would be happy to see it all sold and for me to get 'a real job'. Which results in my playing less and less.
You've got a real job - you're a bass player. I'd been playing bass for a long time before I met the current mrs discreet. She knows how I feel about bass playing, bands and basses and she is more than amenable. Having a home studio into which all my gear goes certainly helps a lot, though. I've also claimed the cupboard under the stairs for *cough* certain acquisitions *cough*. But she is used to the constant stream of boxes arriving and being taken to the post office...
 6.
This looks like pretty normal business to me. Am I missing something?
Nope.
 7.
Am confused!
Me too. What exactly is the function of the hybrid resonator and how does it work, broadly? The One10 I had and the Two10 I'm currently using aren't short on low-end, but is this due to the hybrid resonator or the design of the drivers, or a combination of both?
 8.
It's quite sobering to calculate all the taxes and duties we end up paying!
Too right! Smash the state! Oops, sorry.
 9.
I'm still torn between two One10s and a Two10 for when I have the spare funds...
The Two10 has the 'line array' shenanigans going on, if you want to use it horizontally for maximum low-end... having said that, I use mine vertically and it certainly doesn't seem lacking in bottom. Fnarr. And it's still a small, light cab.
 10.
If anyone buys a bass at the seller's asking price - the buyer must be happy or he wouldn't of paid the price & the seller must be happy or he wouldn't have asked that price - nobody else's business!
Nail and head there, John.
 11. You are right to prioritise your hearing, but it sounds like (heh) your ear protection could be improved. But in any case your band obviously plays way too loud and the 'loud punters' thing seems to be an excuse to whack up the volume. I'd press a bit harder for fewer beans at gigs and if this doesn't happen, find a band who are more sensible about it. Easier said than done, I know. But most bands are just too bloody loud, it's a real problem. Anyone who says they need to play loud to 'get their sound' is talking bollocks, frankly.
 12.
Did you get a chance to compare the Two10 with two One10 stacked?
I did not. I returned the One10 to Barefaced before I got the Two10. I couldn't afford to keep both.
 13. If you're looking for the 'Basschat community spirit', the marketplace is probably not the best place to look for it - as I'm sure there are quite a few members who have registered for the sole purpose of buying and selling basses. Which is fine. Now, Off-Topic - that's where you're going to find your close-knit community of like-minded people.
 14. Buy something, then sell it for a profit. Isn't that what our western capitalist system is based on? The one that we all live under and participate in, whether we like it or not? You know, competitive markets..? Everything we buy has made a profit for many people down the line from production through acquisition to purchase. What's different about this? The Basschat sale forums are open to anyone who cares to register and pay the necessary subscription to participate. Once something is sold here it becomes the property of the seller and they can then do what they like with it. The previous owner's interest at that point (if any) becomes irrelevant. If you don't like it, move to North Korea! Having said all that, if I sold a bass on here then saw it for sale at a higher price somewhere else, I might feel an illogical twinge of annoyance too, but I'm sure it would soon pass - it's not my bass any more, right..?
 15.
I think they look great and are obviously quality but I think Mrs T would remove my love spuds with a blunt knife if I spent a ton + on a strap even though it is worth it by the looks of yours Mark glad you like it fella
Thanks Paul. I know what you mean, but as usual you get what you pay for. And I took the precaution of not telling the current mrs discreet about it - a brown strap is a brown strap as far as she's concerned and I have several...
 16.
Norepinephrine, Adrenaline and Cortisol are released into your nervous system to make you reactionary.
I'm reactionary anyway. I avoid booze and drugs these days - especially as everything seems to end up on YouTube now. As said above, positive visualisation is a good trick if you can get into it. Better done in a flotation tank, but for some reason quite a few venues don't have them.
 17. NSD - Skin-Job Ergonomic Bass Strap http://basschat.co.uk/topic/243139-karls-ergonomic-leather-bass-strap/ Having tried a LOT of bass straps over the years - with varying degrees of success - I thought it was about time I went for THE optimum bass strap, something that would look good yet be efficient, durable and most importantly, comfortable in use. So after a flurry of emails between Basschat's own Karl Derrick and myself, one of his ergonomic leather hand-crafted Skin-Job straps arrived via Special Delivery in a surprisingly short time. First impressions: Very good - as I had been expecting. Soft, supple yet very strong. It's got that new-strap smell! The overall quality of manufacture is exemplary. You only have to compare Karl's stitching with that of my Minotaur strap to get the idea (see pic). This is top-quality leather, folks. In use, the strap is 'ergonomic' because unlike every other strap, it is asymmetric; which means it is designed to be left or right-handed. Each strap is custom made and follows the contours of your back and shoulder to provide a strong yet very comfortable and unobtrusive support for your bass - this is what it's all about - if your strap is letting you know it's there, then it's not working. As each strap is made exclusively to your own measurements you can be sure of optimum comfort and the suede lining prevents any slippage. I specified 10mm holes for straplocks as opposed to a 'pippin' slot and hole, this to obviate any possible wear from the strap buttons. I've used the Loxx system before and rate it highly. So now I'm done - no more strap GAS. And I'm quite sure this one will outlive me by decades. https://youtu.be/K1Fw_fpkRjs Some people will find it hard to get excited by an apparently mundane accessory such as a strap - and if you want heavy metal chrome studs, country conchos, semi-precious stones or fine tooling work depicting eagles, skulls or Celtic knots, then look elsewhere - but if you're one of those bass players who takes their comfort and health seriously, want the best possible strap for lengthy live sets and appreciate a simple yet tasteful design that does the job way better than most, then this is for you. A few pics to be going on with; I'll post some pics of the strap in use on a bass later - I'm waiting for the 'model' to become available (young master discreet). 18.
Heft?
Heft isn't a flavour of the month - it's a force of nature.
 19. What goes around comes around. I've been perfectly happy with the same bass and amp for forty years.
 20. Protection Racket 7051 https://www.gak.co.uk/en/protection-racket-7051-electric-bass-guitar-bag/5444?gclid=CjwKEAjwxeq9BRDDh4_MheOnvAESJABZ4VTqFq8iFXWMCac8OA2KdUeRo1TxWIRZsf4OnG6rwR1RXxoCukHw_wcB Great protection and good value. Loads of storage in big pockets. Light and semi-rigid. More of a case than a bag though, but well worth consideration.
 21.
Tremendous offer. I would certainly be open to that. It's looking like a Markbass head on the top. The sheer enthusiasm for BF cabs on these pages alone serves as a ringing endorsement.
I do enjoy my Markbass SA450/Two10 rig... the clean MB sound and the warmth of the BF 10 cabs work very well together. I like the G-K MB amps with BF cabs, too.
 22.
...However, I'm standing 5 feet from my amp or a couple of mm from my in ears and I do hear an appreciable difference... And that's what matters to me!
There's the rub. Regardless of the FOH sound, I suspect that if you're enjoying your 'tone,' you're more likely to play well, and vice-versa.
 23. I've had one before, they're good necks. Second only to Allparts, which are as good as anything, imho.
 24. Had the book for days, but the current mrs discreet said 'what's this, then?', snaffled the book and has been chortling at it ever since. So when I finally get a chance to read it I'll let you know what I think.
