1.
£130.00 to paint a guitar body is certainly not cheap...
If it's a good job I'd say it was very reasonable.
 2. The USA Peavey Foundations are quite a well-kept secret. Fantastic US build quality, really nice necks and tone until next Tuesday. Considering how much you can pick one up for, they have to be the bargain of the century.
 3. Sire V7 Marcus Miller. You won't get better Jazz bang for your buck - IMHO. Review: http://basschat.co.u...er-4-awh-audio/
 4. My method for avoiding temptation is to keep away from Basschat - just don't log in. Worked for me.
 5. Did a 2-gig-in-one-night in London recently and the next day I was knacked. It was the packing up, getting across town to the second gig and setting up again that did for me. And of course the actual playing didn't help much either. You get the picture. A man of my urbane maturity should be in a comfortable club armchair of an evening, sipping chilled champagne while watching young women wrestle in Swarfega. Or something.
 6.
The fire extinguisher is not part of my current setup!
I was going to say, you don't seem to be using an Ashdown...
 7.
Will that make it lighter or help the tone can it be retro fitted do I need an expert to do it for me not that it matters as I was never really into punc any way so not sure how punc tuating whatever it is would help the particular issue that i is facing if you know what I mean like
Heh. Can't help you with the weight, but have you tried using different strings? This can make a huge tone difference.
 8.
I never like to take a risk with old screws - sorry if you like the rust-ic look, but I really don't like the idea of having screws terminally in place.
70s Fenders very rarely have much rust on them. I bought a tug bar for my Road Worn P, both the screws and tug bar were very new and shiny, so I gave them a going over with a Scotchbrite pad, then put a drop of blue Loctite in the screw slots. This looks black when dry. They blend in really well with the existing screws now and look like they've always been on the bass. Not too overdone, methinks? Of course the existing screws have been 'road worn' by Fender anyway - it's a 2011 bass!
 9. Who did the relic work? There is some very realistic checking going on! It really looks like a 70s Olympic White body that's gone creamy over time, like they do...
 10.
...a good tool for stopping those pillowy booms.
I was going to post a picture of a good tool and some pillowy booms, but this is a family forum. Allegedly.
 11.
I like the evening out it gives me...
Presumably you can enjoy an evening out whether you use a compressor or not?
 12. There were no catastrophic technical problems as such, it's just that the performances were absolutely piss poor. With all the best will in the world anyone who thinks they can step into Bowie's shoes live is guilty of almost unbelievable hubris. Yes, I said 'hubris'. Which as we know, leads to Nemesis.
 13.
Mods please delete this thread to avoid clutter and embarrassment.
Though I'd just touch base with this. Thanks to everyone who posted recently, I'd ALMOST forgotten about it, which would have been a shame.
 14.
...a lot of bass players think compression is an effect. It's not.
I'd agree with you in 99% of cases, but the Diamond BCP-1 is more of a 'tone-upgrade' than a remedial or hard-limiting compressor, having a maximum comp ratio of around 3/1. It subtly balances the output of your strings very nicely without significant loss of dynamics and without any tone-suck whatsoever but I use it mainly because, whatever shenanigans are in that box, it just makes my bass sound incredible! I have it 'always on'. I don't use any other FX with it. http://www.ovnilab.c...diamobass.shtml
 15. I forget all about the technicalities of compression and just plug in my Diamond BCP-1. It sounds bloody great. That is all.
 16.
Are we loving this young discreet, or has it been surreptitiously sold on...
No, we're loving it and it's not going anywhere. Perfect balance between size, weight power and tone. Sounds fantastic with my Markbass SA450, which is also not going anywhere. I'd say I'm sorted rig-wise and have no rig GAS, but of course I've said that before, so I won't. Let's just say that I 100% recommend the Two10 - it's a killer cab and I'm very pleased with it.
 17.
Great for those low F#'s.
Pretty good for those low G-flats, too...
 18.
...I know I'm not needing all that power. It was a lightweight amp going cheap, so hey, what's a bassist to do
It's not really power, it's 'headroom'. Very sensible.
 19.
I'm gonna have two Big Twin II cabs. Because that seems like a lot of fun
Getting into the demolition business then, Dan?
 20.
Oooooh expensive strings!!
String choice is SO important and can radically change the sound and playability of a bass. I think they get overlooked sometimes.
 21. NPD: Caline CP-18 'Orange Burst': Xotic BB Clone? https://www.amazon.c...uct/B00GC2F0UK/ I was looking at grit-boxes, sound-shapers and bass pre-amps, as you do. I've tried a lot of 'em... VT Bass, Catalinbread SFT, MXR M80, MXR M81, Behringer BDI-21, all the various flavours of SansAmp. The usual suspects. One I haven't tried is the Xotic BB Bass Preamp, which gets love here and elsewhere - so I became curious. Not so curious that I wanted to spend £200 on a new one just to see what it's like, however. Thus followed the usual late-night trawling of the net and I stumbled across the 'Andoer Caline CP-18 Orange Overdrive Pre Amp Pedal for Electric Guitar'... otherwise known as the 'Orange Burst'. Now, then... this is apparently a reasonably accurate Chinese clone of the Xotic BB Preamp, but NOT the bass version - the guitar version. Cue more rummaging in the internet's pants to find out what the difference is between the Bass and the Guitar Xotics. I discovered that there are more similarities than differences. The guitar version has a different upper frequency range compared with the bass version, and there are one or two other minor tweaks and component changes. They are not THAT different. I found this interesting quote from Xotic: 'The amount of the distortion and the affected frequencies are different. The bass model is a bit brighter and less middly than the guitar model. The bass peak Q is 100Hz and the treble is 5kHz. The guitar version has the same bass response [my italics] but the treble is 10kHz'. So there you have it. Not a lot wrong with having more mids, surely? And if the bass peak Q is the same as the Xotic BB Bass version at 100Hz, then the fact that the treble is centred around 10kHz or 5kHz is of little importance - in my humble opinion, of course. That's what your amp EQ is for, isn't it? So when the Orange Burst arrived at my entrance I was eager to check it out. Once you get the controls (apart from the Gain) set up so it sounds the same volume and tone-wise when it's ON or OFF (it's true bypass), you can start experimenting with the magic Gain control. You can go from very subtle brooding SVT-on-tickover through valve-type break-up to full-on crunchy fuzz - but, if you go for the maximum you will lose a bit of low end. But that's an extreme setting and one I would never use. Round about 8-9 o'clock is more than enough grit for me, at which sweet spot my bottom remained intact. Fnarr. With the Gain at minimum you can get a very useful clean boost, too. For £24 it's a no-brainer really - you couldn't make it for much less - and if you're currently looking for a dedicated hair-generator, grit-dispenser, crunch-box, disto-unit, valve-sim or OD conduit then I think you could do far worse than give this one a crack of the whip. It's fun! Bear in mind that the Xotic BB (Guitar version) is £200 or thereabouts. Also bear in mind that I have no idea how close the Orange Burst is to the Xotic BB component-wise or build-wise as I have no Xotic to compare it with. But if it isn't a direct clone, then it has its own voice and works very well anyway. Recommended. I thank you!
