Pretty much like thebrig, I'll learn or compose material sitting down (mainly to get a better view of the fretboard) and then when I know the material and can play it without looking I rehearse it all standing up at least a few times before actually gigging. Then I can engage the audience with my cheeky grin and wink at likely birds in a lascivious manner. Oi! Oi! Do what? Not 'arf! And so on and so forth.

The right gauge cables for my Speakon connectors..?
discreet replied to waldemar's topic in Amps and Cabs
I read somewhere that it's not just about the power handling - thicker speaker cables allow for better damping. Whatever that is. -
Fender Precision, possibly fretless, flatwound La Bellas, play fingerstyle over the end of the fingerboard, treble rolled off.
This. And if you're really keen, raise the action and dig in a bit.

Another disappointing thread title...

The right gauge cables for my Speakon connectors..?
discreet replied to waldemar's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi Wal! I use 4mm high-capacity Klotz bass speaker cable as supplied by obbm of this parish. Whether it's absolutely necessary or not from a technical viewpoint I don't know, but I believe speaker cable is all about current handling, so it makes sense to my small brain to use the chunkiest cable possible. How are you doing, by the way? -
You can't really judge a bass by a video. There are too many variables - recording quality for one, as you discovered. Also for some reason people think a furious fusillade of slapping is a good way to let you know what a bass sounds like. Plus, if you listen to the vid on crappy laptop speakers or below-par computer speakers there's no way you're going to get any idea of what it can actually sound like. And some of the playing on these demos is questionable, to say the least. You shouldn't let it put you off the bass though, unless there are any other reasons for being wary about it. It's not the fault of the bass that the seller is a monumental bell-end.

I once saw R1VAL on a Roller once, which amused me somewhat. Not quite sure why, though.
I already have two SA450's and even I was thinking seriously about going for another one of these brilliant heads.
In a moment of rare lucidity I realised I was unlikely to experience such clean, powerful warmth this side of a Glockenklang, so it made no sense whatsoever to sell it. Having experienced much seller's remorse over the years I'm finally beginning to understand!

The most sensible post I've seen in ages. If your gear works for you, that's all that matters. Before I got involved with this forum some years ago, I had one bass and one rig that I used exclusively. They were just tools. I spent my time playing, not gassing...

Ooh, yeah. I hope there's more where that came from.

*Withdrawn* Markbass SA450 Sorry folks - I realised I must be mad to sell this - it's probably the best amp MB ever made! I'm not going to move it on just because it's not flavour of the month - it sounds bloody great! Is this the end of amp GAS?? Details and spec here: http://www.markbass....etail.php?id=66 Main features:

300W @ 8ohms, 500W @ 4ohms
7.5lbs (3.4kg)
3.39 X 14.5 X 11.9 inches (8.6 X 36.8 X 30.2 cm)
As you can see, this example comes complete with its Markbass carry case, which has a useful cable pocket and integral apertures for the cooling fan on one side and air vents on the other. All you do is unzip the flaps front and back and off you go. This is one of Markbass's earlier Italian pro amp heads. It's essentially the same as a Little Mark II only with extensive parametric low and high Mid EQ facilities, Line Out volume, two Speakon speaker cable sockets and DI pre/post switch. The later LM III included most of these features, but not the dual Speakons and not the parametric Mid EQ, which allows you to quickly EQ for any room. It has been used in its case, so has very few (if any) of the usual scratches and scuffs you would expect to see. It's in very good cosmetic condition and it's all working 100% as it should. It can also be rack-mounted, but rack ears are not included. Priced to sell - I'm hoping to move it on as quickly as possible. So just £250 will see this prime Italian hunk of warm, clean heft winging its way to your entrance via PorcelFarce express48. Item will be well-packed and I will PM an ETA and tracking information to the buyer. Mainland UK postage is included. Payment is via bank transfer only please. My feedback is in my sig. I thank you!
I think it would be perfect for me, unfortunately I'd need to sell my TH500 to finance it, and with a busy few weeks of gigging I can't really risk being amp-less! ☹️
I'm in a similar situation, I'd have to sell my Markbass amp first. Which means taking pictures of it. And I'm way, WAY too hot!!
-
Really need to try one of these at some point!
Cut out the middleman and just buy it! Seriously though, this amp has something for everyone, it's a cracker. Unfortunately I've just spent £225 on my car, so unless something remarkable happens it doesn't look like it's coming to discreet towers, unfortunately.
If the band loved the sound of both your basses then you need to sort out why you are hearing something different
IME non-bass players do not have such a discriminate ear and tend only to listen to themselves. Often I've asked a band about a new bass, amp, cab, effect and so on, only to be greeted with, 'hunh?' They're not interested.
-
I did on Thursday and they said they loved both sounds doh!
Band members, eh? They really don't care much about our big guitars.
