1.
I have a full flightcase for my Wal that is so heavy it is of little practical use...
Flightcases are heavy, it's true. Boschma do lighter ABS cases that are good quality. http://www.boschmacases.com/html/boschmacustom.html
 2. I've had quite a few cases from Flightcase Warehouse, they are good quality. http://www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk/industry/product.asp?item=guitar-amp-flight-case-for-ashdown-abm-900-evo-ii-head-2828-4986
 3.
...sonic blue is my fave ever colour... even over salmon pink!
ESPECIALLY over salmon pink. There's a pic of an aged sonic blue P on page 37 of The Fender Bass (An Illustrated History) that is obviously sonic blue over some pink or otherwise faded red colour and it's just amazing.
 4.
Break those speakers in kids, your ears will thank you for it (ear plugs recommended).
This is so important - yet of course new cabs will have unbroken drivers in them. Also we tend to audition cabs solo, in a non-gig situation. Obviously any rig is going to sound different at a gig and different again with broken-in drivers in it. So it's hardly surprising that so many people buy cabs based on what they have read about them and are then disappointed when their new cabs don't perform as expected.
 5. Having just bought a Barefaced Two10, I'm going to strongly suggest you try one. Then I'm going to run away.
 6.
...the neck profile may have something to do with this weird black art of why Ps and Js sound uniquely different...
Don't know about that, but I do prefer a one-piece maple neck on a P, it seems to help produce 'that' P tone. I have no evidence to support this view, of course.
 7.
Bass perfection right there. I'll kick myself when you tell me but what does AVRI mean?
I'm guessing American Vintage Re-Issue?
 8.
...although they've faded the dots on the neck, when you compare them side by side you can tell they're plastic and not clay...
Very nice. I don't think the early dots were ever actually clay though - they were pressed board. Whether they were grey, beige or pink depended on the colours available at the time.
 9.
...you "hopefully" won't be seeing this sonic blue beauty for sale on basschat,!,,!
Yes... I'll remind you of this statement in your FS thread. Meanwhile, should I start saving up for the 64?? How do the two basses compare in build, playability and sound? Must say the sonic certainly looks the part.
 10. Yes, when I'm using FL Studio 12 to record live playing I have to get down to at least 5ms otherwise it affects my playing too much. Sounds like a great idea that needs technology to catch up with it.
 11. Not sure if this is relevant... scroll down, there's a bit about latency. 12.
Should we say that heft is certainly present and that they're great for metal as well?
Hee, hee. Chip off the old block there for sure. Given the right amp, the 'heft' bit isn't a problem. I'd say there's 'slam' in there, too.
 13. He looks just like you, Tel! Look forward to hearing the results at a gig. These cabs are very clear on stage and you can hear them from wherever you are in the room, dispersion is excellent. You can in fact load them with low end, but they are quite mid-forward as said above - however this means you will be heard live regardless. The best amp I used with them was a Burman 100W all-valve set-up, that was wicked. I used ONE J12 in a 9-piece Stax/Mowtown function band with three-piece horn section, three singers, drums and guitar and it was more than adequate. I used it at a NYE gig at the Grosvenor House Hotel Ballroom (not a small room) and it was brilliant. This with a Markbass LM250 at 8ohms and the Kappalite 3012HO. Great cabs.
 14.
...the last time we took the donkey to the hemp field he ate too much of it, got sick and started to believe he was shergar...
So that's why we couldn't find him.
 15. The rules are 'simple click tracks and metronomes'. There may be some controversy over where the 'click tracks and metronomes' become more than simple... should we say no actual drum sounds or samples? Though you could still have a fairly complex rhythm going with just a click and a metronome... My suggestion is that we go purist - have have no FX, no click tracks or metronomes and no drums. Bass only. Also, the noodles have to be recorded naked while standing in a field of hemp. With a donkey. What do you think?
 16.
I would insist they upgrade it to the stock pickup though!
Yes, that's essential. The SBP-3 is way too hot.
 17.
Nothing wrong with dreaming - I'm 50+ and just starting to play
Ah, the idealism of youth!
 18. Someone needs to buy this sharpish! Hmm... do I need a sunburst to go with my fiesta red..?
 19. Pyle Drivers! Looking most impressive mate.
 20. Which bass or how much is largely irrelevant. If you think it plays well, if you think it sounds good and if you think it looks good, then it plays well, sounds good and looks good. End of story. For me comfort is important too and that comes under 'plays well'. I've been on the roundabout like many on this board and have spent a lot of money over a long time during the journey. The bass that plays well, sounds good and looks good for me is the best I've had so far and it cost £600 used.
 21. Ashdown CS is second to none. Makes you feel proud to be British and in no way European at all.
 22.
This.
That.
 23. Well there you go. It's basically another subject in a long list of subjects that we get bogged down in, rather than simply play our basses.
