1.
I shall be making kits available. If anyone is interested, PM me.
THAT'S what I wanted to hear!
 2. Great work mate, looks super-neat.
 3. You can get 1000W 1U-high power amps. I used a W-Audio 1U 1000W for a while, driven by a Tech21 VT Bass pedal. Sounded great. Lots of headroom, too...
 4.
Remember the Rock Garden?
Yes! How long has that been gone?? Life is short. Edit: Just Googled it. It's been closed for EIGHT YEARS.
 5. Tru dat, there are many ways that flats and rounds differ apart from the gauge. There can even be enough of a difference between old and new strings of the same brand, type and gauge to require adjustment. It doesn't take long to do and is well worth it if you're going to give different strings a fair trial.
 6.
The extension cabs are not exactly the same size as the combo though - if you're a bit OCD about that sort of thing
I think it depends on which one you choose - I'm sure I saw a pic on here with a matching extension cab.
 7. That Hard Puncher looks the business!
 8.
I had no idea that a throat infection could affect memory.
*Cough* I already knew this actually, but for some reason had forgotten. *Cough*
 9. This is great, Tel! I'd be really interested to know what the finished weight is with a driver in it.
 10. Within your budget I'd recommend the Fender Rumble V3 500W Combo, which runs at 350W without an extension cab. But it's very loud and in practice I found the extension cab unnecessary. It sounds great out of the box and weighs 16kg.
 11.
IPlayed everything from Bacarach tunes to the Hawaii 5-0 theme!
Wow! Obviously I'm in the wrong band! That sounds awesome!
 12.
Can you compare it to your '76 P?
As Don rightly says, the necks play differently. Also the RW is alder and I believe the 76 is ash. Having said that, I'm not a great advocate of 'tonewoods', but some people think it makes a difference. The 76 seems a little more scooped soundwise and the RW has a more fundamental, woody tone about it. Generally the mid-70s basses are heavier too (in some cases a LOT heavier). The RW really is quite like an early Precision in a lot of ways - it's very light, resonant and for some reason gives one the strange impression that the wood has dried out more, though of course there is no practical way to know if this is true or not. Maybe it's something to do with the lack of weight. It doesn't have the overall feeling of mass, and seems more playable, somehow. It really sings.
 13.
It was the 'roadworn' aspect that made me hesitate.
Yes, it seems to put off quite a lot of people. But there's no reason for it. Like I said in the OP, the 'road wear' just diverts attention away from the fact that, if you're into vintage Fenders, this is as close as you're going to get without spending thousands on the real thing. Yes, it takes a leap of faith to buy one online without trying it, but if you find one used then it's absolutely a no-brainer. And as far as the 'road wear' goes - again as I said, I don't much care for the arm contour 'wear' and the faux fag-burn on the headstock, because they're on every P Bass and make it obvious that it's a Road Worn. Otherwise, the 'wear' is very plausible, particularly the ageing of the hardware. which is as good as I've seen. Bottom line is, it plays as well as any P and it sounds as good, too. I got mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm still having trouble putting it down. I'm wearing it now, as I type this. This Road Worn, my Diamond BCP-1, my Markbass SA450 and my newly-delivered Barefaced Two10 - just about where I want to be at the moment.
 14.
I'm guessing the RW will be closest to the vibe... although a new one will be nearer my wallet. What a dilemma!
I think the RW definitely has the vibe, and then some. That's worth a lot, IMHO. OR... you could buy a Classic - and make quite sure you never, ever pick up a RW in future.
Buying one used you can't really go wrong I'd say.
I'd say so, too!
 15.
According to fender the specs are the same, save finish of course...
I've only played a Classic once, but the RW seems lighter, more resonant and the neck plays way better. I suspect the body may be slightly thinner. It sounds and plays much more like a pre-CBS bass than the Classic does. It just feels right to me. Love it.
 16.
...that fiesta red RW of yours... you have no idea how many times I looked at it and almost PM'd Karl to take it off his hands
You should have, it's exceptional. It's my A1, go-to bass. It's going nowhere. Don't know how Karl could bear to part with it.
 17.
I have a Classic 50 Precision and it's a great bass... but the RW series one is a pretty different instrument.
Yes it is. No-one is paying £500 just for 'road wear'.
 18.

An early internet porn set-up, circa 1850.
 19.
Then there, too, you're doing it wrong. Think Charlie Watts, playing lightly, or even that most ubiquitous of drummers: Roland.
Not impressed by Roland - he's never got any drugs.
 20.
...fragrance is in the nose of the beholder
Or in other words - he who smelt it, dealt it. I would also accept 'he who detected it, projected it', and 'he who exposed it, composed it'. Also see: 'he who declared it, aired it'; 'he who blurted it, squirted it' and 'he who hyped it, piped it'.
 21.
...you can hear them arguing about playing Polly And The Wolf, dancing, my wife vainly trying to get them to be quiet, and in my favourite part, my eldest asking if I stink. Never work with children or animals.
So... do you stink?
 22.
I'll stick my neck out and say yeah, drum tracks are fine - providing they're kept simple. If it sounds like Ginger Baker, you're doing it wrong.
Hmm. What if it sounds like Jimmy Chamberlin??
 23. What, straight into another one, just like that?? :blilnk: Question: When you say 'simple click tracks and metronomes', does this include actual drums and drumming, or what?
