As far as I know it's to stop the power amp from clipping, or distorting. You may want your pre-amp to distort as this can sound pleasant depending on what you're after, but generally you don't want power amp distortion, at least not from a solid-state amp. This doesn't apply to valve amps, where (I think) power amp distortion is part of 'that' valve sound. Or something.
I would be far more worried about my own personal safety.
Ah, but if you're playing a cheap bass you can hit a potential assailant over the head with it. [JOKE].

I've decided to gig with my Hayman 4040 instead of letting it languish in a cupboard. It is a relatively rare and expensive bass however, so I've completely missed the point of the thread. I suppose my point is, you can only play one bass at a time...
yes, but its a 200w cab...?!
Is it 8ohms? If so you'll be getting a maximum of 300W from the Fusion. And you won't be running it anywhere near maximum volume levels, that's for sure. Your ears will tell you if you're overdoing it. I doubt you'd want to play that loud. I'm using a 300W@8ohm amp with my BF One10 and it's perfectly fine. Just don't go nuts.

Yes, 9v pp3.
-
Why not? It's a 1X12 with a tweeter, isn't it?

G-K MB500 Fusion - it has extensive mid EQ facilities. Mine growled like a bear. Wish I hadn't sold it.

Our material is very niche anyway, but there are always about three numbers that we're working on for inclusion at any one time. The are added to a roster of about 120 songs of which we will play around 25-28 at each gig. So there's usually something we haven't played for a while at each gig which keeps it more interesting. Also, we keep working on existing material. Too many bands will get a song to a broadly playable state - and that's how it stays for the rest of time. We are always listening to source material and different versions and work towards a 'finished' version, but one that has our stamp on it. That's a never-ending process of course, but again it keeps things more interesting.

SOLD: Lakland Bob Glaub Precision (44-64) White/Maple Lakland Bob Glaub (now known as the 44-64) Skyline Series 4-string P Bass in white with maple neck, pearl guard and matching headstock. Crafted In Korea in 2008. Hipshots. Lakland top loading/through-body bridge. 9lb 2oz. Bought new from Bass Central in Florida in 2009. I bought it recently from this parish - it's a great-sounding and great-playing bass and I like it a LOT. HOWEVER... my Hayman 4040 isn't getting a look-in. I've been playing it over the last few days and it's way too good to keep in the cupboard under the stairs. I don't want to keep basses I'm not going to play, so I'm going to make it my go-to gigging bass. Hence this Lakland P is up for sale. It was refinished by Dave Wilson and the headstock was refinished to match. He also made the pearl pick guard. Apparently white is not a colour option for the Skyline Version, so this particular bass is unique - and it's a real looker, too. It's in very good condition. There's one small ding on the side of the body under the controls, and another on the headstock under the decal (see pics). You have to get close to see either and of course they don't affect the sound or playability of the bass in any way. It's resonant acoustically and has lots of natural low-end. Luckily it sounds good through an amp too... more P-Bass than a P bass, in my opinion. It thumps well and does that low-mid thing to perfection. It's strung with La Bella 760FS Flatwounds. I'm after what I paid - £500 Posted to mainland UK. I'm NOT looking for trades, thanks. Bass will be sold to the first person to transfer payment into my account - I'm not going to be putting it on HOLD for days on end. Payment via bank transfer ONLY, please. Bass will be well-packed and despatched via an appropriate tracked and signed-for method. I will PM an ETA and tracking information to the buyer. My feedback is here. I thank you! Note: Bass will be despatched in a high-quality Hiscox Liteflite ABS hard case - not in 100% perfect cosmetic condition, but very usable - the catches all work and the function of the case is not affected. See pics.
I tried the BF110 with Lozz's Tonehammer. Not for me, wasn't keen on the tone.
Lozz says he preferred the Little Mark over the Tone Hammer with the One10 and that the cab sounds different with different amps. Which is why I wondered if anyone had put the Handbox through it. Apparently not.
I've yet to A/B it with my GK Fusion 500, but I get the feeling that the GK might well end up staying in the gig bag as a back up.
DIBS!! - If you move the Fusion on. It's a shame you didn't get to try the Handbox with the One10.

I suppose if you get 'your' sound with a pre-amp of some description then presumably you could get a different sound with a different pre-amp... therefore if you wanted to play in several different bands of differing genres then you could have several different pedals OR select several different sounds from the same pedal, thus negating the need for a different amp for each project... I've been in the situation where I've bought different amps and even different rigs for different bands, and it gets bloody expensive. Edit: Overuse of the word 'different'. Too bad.
Oh and btw, what are these 'underneath'-ports like? I have never seen anything alike on bass guitar cabinets. I'd think it would make a great difference when using the cab horizontal or vertical, lifted on a stand or not, etc..
I've used the cab horizontal and vertical, on a stand and not - seems to make no difference whatsoever.
...enhanced compensation that I'd been sold by the Post Office staff (who asked what was in the box but still sold me insurance I couldn't claim on).
I did this with PorcelFarce until I discovered instruments weren't covered. So now I don't pay for the insurance, but I have to insist on not paying it because the cashiers at the PO don't seem to understand that instruments aren't covered and I have to quote their own T&Cs to them. Surely they should know what is and what is not insurable? You'd almost think it was a deliberate rip-off. [/cynical] -
