1.
Everything being produced currently is better then anything ever produced in the seventies no matter how much old farts are hanging on to what they think they know. Every claim made by them about lighter cabs not being as good so far is all hearsay and/or assumption.
As an old fart myself I tend to agree, but there's no accounting for taste. If sound was the only consideration I'd use an SVT and an 8X10 - having toured this rig back in the day, nothing currently available improves on it for sheer power and tone - in my opinion. It is still the benchmark. However, reality crashes in - as it tends to - and I need to avoid another hernia. Hernias are funny, but not so much if you have one yourself - and I can confirm that the surgical repair process and recovery is even less amusing.
 2.
Is there a photo of the full length of the bass? Thanks.
I keep picking it up and playing it! It's sounding very, very lush! I'm beginning to bond with it..!
 3.
BC's demographic favours people 'of a certain age'.
What? I've never heard such rubbish. And another thing, I - zzzzzzz...
 4. Bad timing for me! I loved my pre-LX maple-wing Euro4 and regret selling it. This is a total bargain!
 5.
It would be interesting to have a poll and see what % of each age group uses lightweight gear on BC.
Go on, then. I'll play.
 6.
Well this thread - and a couple of others - have pointed me in the direction of another BDI21. At £22 from Amazon it`s a no-brainer. They sound like the Sansamp, and considering I use one of those, well may as well have a BDI21 as backup to that and for home use.
Yes, I would recommend that everyone keeps a BDI-21 in their gig bags! They warm up an amp very nicely and if the worst should happen with your amp it's good to have some kind of control over your sound if you need to go straight into the desk. Benchmark bit of kit IMHO at any price. The fact it's affordable is a bonus.
 7.
I have absolutely no GAS for any more amps / cabs or basses.
I should think not, with that little lot.
 8. Thanks Karl! Don't think I'll be able to take a better one than that.
 9.
I do think this is a looker but I mustn't allow myself to be tempted.
Go on Gary, you know you want to!!
 10. It's not 'Schlong!' is it? Or something like that. I used it for a bit, advertised a phone and some guy wanted me to drive across London to deliver it to him in person. Er... no.
 11.
Car, although I may have gone a bit mental at the car.
These days I usually go mental IN the car.
 12.
For breaking down on the way to a gig, despite actually making it to the soundcheck...
Car or mental breakdown..?
 13.
One of the things I`ve found is getting a lightweight amp and lightweight cab, then putting a good preamp/DI pedal in the equation really helps get that - dare I say the word - heft into the sound.
+1 Even something as affordable as a BDI-21 can make a huge difference to an otherwise, er... 'unremarkable' micro amp.
 14. What 'bridge pickup'? It looks like a P Bass to me.
 15.
The 70's was a great time. Everything was still possible.
Totally agree, but I wonder how much of that feeling was about being young and idealistic, yet to have one's spirit crushed by the relentless machinations of life on this benighted rock? I think generally as one gets older, one's options become far fewer and the decisions (good or bad) one made while young come home to roost. Especially the ones that seemed unimportant at the time.
 16. OK then, to answer the question in the OP (even though it needs a question mark): Yes, I have become a wimp. Yes, it is a sign of ageing. Happy now?
 17. Very nice review, which has given me Glock GAS. And it's quite painful... it's also of a size that would fit nicely on my One10 (horizontally) but I have to ask myself whether 600-odd watts at 8ohms may represent more headroom than I'd actually need...
 18.
Quite so. At first I thought it must be an interview with me.
Big fan of Ennio though, have been for many years. A true original.
 19.
I was a teen in the 70s and I loathed the so-called fashion of the day.
Not our finest moment, but at least we didn't think it was a good idea to appear in public with our trousers down around our arses. Ha! Ha!
 20.
Everything in the seventies was better!
Historically it was. Highest wages and best working conditions in real terms. UK population happiest it's been before or since. I was able to leave school and go straight into a job that paid enough for me to leave home and be independent. Happy days.
