1.
Never realised it was originally a B-side and guess that's why they left it fairly loose like that.
At that time if the feel was right then a bum note or two wasn't the complete disaster that it's seen to be now. Plus it was harder and more risky to fix a single note back then. I blame Pro Tools. It's so easy to fix things that it's done as a matter of course.
 2. I'd be on this if I hadn't already just arranged to buy another lovely white bass... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1986-Ibanez-Roadstar-II-RB850-Pearl-Finish-Active-Electric-Bass-Guitar-/131797680313? Phwooar, eh?
 3.
We should be aiming at peoples arses more than their ears.
I couldn't agree more.
 4.
I've played it a few times, and when learning it I found it really frustrating because it does appear to be a 1 take noodle.
You should try learning the bass line for Dire Wolf by The Grateful Dead. Then check out the live versions on YouTube - even Phil Lesh can't play it and it's his own bloody line!
 5.
Of no particular relevance, I was having a drink last week with the former Lindisfarne member who played mandolin on Maggie May. I could ask him about the bass next time I see him.
Oh, you tart! Actually that's pretty cool.
 6.
Yeah, there's a clanger, but it's got so much more life than the polished-to-blandness stuff populating the chart these days.
+100
 7. You MUST include the balls-up! It will be expected!
 8.
The rest of the band were chronic alcoholics.
That's pretty much par for the course. Two or three of the bands I was in during the seventies and early 80s were off their heads most of the time, even the pro bands. What am I saying? Especially the pro bands But it was more or less expected of 'musicians' then.
 9.
...idea was a small set up for small venues etc, and a bit more oomph for bigger rock venues...
Bigger rock venues are likely to have sound reinforcement, so you can just use one cab for on-stage monitoring. However I do understand the \m/ RAWK \m/ value of standing in front of a huge bass stack.
 10. Just a quick post to say that speaker diameter has no bearing on frequency, so 15" drivers don't have more bottom end than 10" drivers, which don't have more top end than 15" drivers... this may have a bearing your decision. However as you already have a NY151 I know that my OCD wouldn't allow anything other than a matching cab. But do you really need the second cab? Are you lacking in volume or headroom?
 11.
He said 'You'll never guess who that belonged to?' I really couldn't think of a band who did, so he told me. 'Fred West'.
Jesus Christ, that's well creepy! I think I would have been on my way at that point.
 12. Embarrassing for sure, but I'm happy that it was you at fault and not the Rumble! Good on you for sharing it with us, though.
 13.
Right, just got my 2nd rumble 100, first one didn't work, just a faint noise at full volume and the new one is just the same. I have to have the o/d switched in to get any volume at all. Just gain and volume produce very little at all, is it meant to have the overdrive on constantly to get any volume? what am I missing here? The drive and level knobs seem to control all the volume. I don't want overdrive.
Send it back straight away - the 100 should be as lush tone-wise as the 500 and is very loud for a 100. This without using the OD circuit at all. There is obviously something very wrong with it. Either you've been extremely unlucky, or somehow you have been sent the first faulty unit back again!
 14.
People will string you along so that they can tell their mates that they're in a band. These are people who want to be in a band but don't want to play in a band.
So true, I've had my valuable time wasted TWICE in this way by people who had no intention of ever doing any gigs. The second lot were worse as I told them from the off about the first lot and was reassured that it wasn't going to happen again! The thing about being in a band is that it's not all about 'being in a band'.
 15. You'll be fine! You also get the award for best tribute act band name!
 16.
Can you get G & L logos (although I wouldn't have thought of that) ? Sorry, only this one - I still have the frets if you wanted to knock them back in (they came out quite easily), although you might have to fret-saw or dremel the slots first (it has the type of slot that doesn't run right to the f/board edge)
You could certainly copy a G&L logo and print it onto waterslide paper. Not that I'm advocating wholesale fakery, of course. Thanks for the info, but I think a refret would be beyond my rather limited luthery skills...
 17.
That's nothing, I learnt bloody Finnish for the same reason!
She must have been worth it then, you don't learn Finnish in a hurry. I was married to a Finn for a while, I didn't actually learn the language because she was a right pain in the ass.
 18.
23kg is not that bad. This should be pretty easy to manage with one person.
True, especially if that person is prepared to carry your amp.
 19. Seems reasonable for UPS.
 20.
But I'd still be in the band if things had turned out differently
You mean you'd put up with a band you didn't like for a bunk-up.
 21.
For me, it is always 'i don't like the music'. The reason I don't like the music may be different but the fundamental problem is always the same.
That's inspired me to write a song. I'm going to call it, 'Thank you for the music - but I didn't like it very much'.
 22. See, I would have put a G&L logo on a stock that shape. You don't happen to have another one of these with frets on, do you..? No..?
 23.
When you've played alongside a very good drummer for some years he's very hard to replace. A drummer, who you just key with in makes playing such a pleasure and lifts the quality of the music. He/she can make or break a band.
One of the first bands I ever played in had one of the best drummers ever, he made everything so easy. Of course being a spoilt brat I didn't realise it at the time and took him for granted. Almost every other drummer I've played with in the intervening decades has been found wanting. A mediocre drummer makes the job of bass playing so much harder than it needs to be.
