I love the careless alignment of the body join, the way it completely fails to run parallel to the general alignment of the bass. Just like my Harley Benton.
My Harley Benton neck joints are super-tight. My 76P joint is baggier than Jo Brand's grundies.
...Your Mileage May Vary, horses for courses, one man's meat, each to their own, takes all sorts...
...there's nowt as queer as folk, it would be a funny old world if we all liked the same thing, one man's loss is another man's gain, and never wipe your arse with a broken bottle.

Three main reasons, in no particular order:

Other people's inability to separate dreams from reality.
My own inability to separate dreams from reality.
Assholes.
Yes... probably best not to look at them.

I remember it. And it must have been a very long time ago as I remember thinking, 'A woman who plays bass?? Whaa??'
What a stand-out idea!
I see what you did there.
There is no hope for me... I've stopped pretending I'm even a real bass player anymore...
They're all over on realbasschat.com.
Did I mention the handle...?
The handle is great! I've now come to the same conclusion as you - even 16kg is too heavy for my feeble, pathetic frame. And to think I used to throw an Ampeg 810 and an SVT-CL around the place without even thinking about it. Where are the snows of yesteryear??
I love the tone of my amp and cab setup, but I still find myself looking at Glockenklang 210s wondering if they would be better than my berg... I've no idea why as I love the berg
You sir, have far too much time and money on your hands! Whereas I just have far too much time on my hands.
Everything about the bass is perfect, including the sound and frequencies it covers.
I think you've answered your own question there. If it ain't broke don't fix it - and save yourself the time, money, angst and grief. Roadworns are great basses just the way they are, forget about upgrading it and enjoy playing it!
I feel the same. A bass from 1990 can't be vintage... it was only made a few short years ago... er... wasn't it?
The late 1980s still seem quite recent to me. I have trouble believing it's 2006, let alone 2016. Woahh!! *Slips through time continuum again - goes into 'Frodo with ring on'-style wooshy weirdness*
Horses for courses and I do appreciate I am in a minority. Possibly of one
Boo! Party pooper! But seriously, it's fair enough. You properly tried it before saying you didn't like it. Fender amps don't seem to polarise opinion quite like another brand I could mention... hee, hee.
Maybe you do if your selling your Rumble!
Ha, ha! Lamp post fish buggery raisins.
-
AFAICS the current accepted definition of vintage is anything over 25 years old. That means anything made before 1991!
Yes, it's ridiculous. My interpretation is that a Fender bass is 'vintage' if it has the serial number on the neck plate.
-
Certainly is, when I think of heft I think of an 810 with an SVT on top, Florb is ok for me if it means a light punchy combo.
I read that three times and every time it came out as 'light, punchy potato'. I think I need a brain scan.
-

I know, I know! It's hard to believe, but my current band is doing hundreds of gigs in smallish venues on tiny stages and I need a smaller, quieter, lighter rig! So I'm going down the Barefaced One10 route. For most gigs my Rumble is set quieter than I use it for home practice!
-
God, this is such a good amp! One thing that I think would enhance the Rumble is the inclusion of LEDs or lit buttons on the top - the Bright, Contour and Vintage switches could do with illumination to see which one is depressed, as it's hard to tell otherwise.
Fender have to cut costs somewhere, the competitive price is one of the reasons why these are flying out the door by the shedload. Other reasons are weight, ease of use and sound, of course... anyway, I don't use any of those buttons...
I have said it before, I think those Rumble cabs add a lot to the sound.. I have DI'd my Rumble combo for recording but much prefer the sound I get when the cab is mic'ed up.

I didn't get a chance to DI my combo when I had it, but I thought it'd be the case that it was the 'whole' thing that made the tone as it was. I think you need the whole package as such.
I haven't used the DI, but I do get the impression the Eminence-loaded cab has a lot to do with the sound. It seems perfectly matched to the amp and is definitely 'voiced' in some way. But it just works. It's hard to get a bad sound from a Rumble Combo and they're really great live, really punchy and with loads of FLORB.* *FLORB is the new HEFT.
-
you could always get a rumble head and just use it as a preamp when required
That's not a bad idea!
Yes well that's the other side, the ones who had an instrument in there younger days, lost it for whatever reason and yearn for the real vintage one, same model same colour.
I've just about managed to hang on to mine.
I used to own a ‘classic car’ in my early 20s - a Triumph Herald.

I also owned a triumph herald in my early 20s.
Pointless coincidence corner: I learnt to drive in a Triumph Herald and passed my test in one. It wasn't a classic car at the time.
With vintage basses and instruments in general there's the story, the history and who made the bass and the "mojo" factor, seeing your heroes play that model/year of production instrument. Could you not afford one when younger but can now etc etc.
Labouring the point somewhat, but I was in fact able to afford a 'vintage' bass when I was younger, however it wasn't a vintage bass at the time, it was simply 'a new bass'.
