1.
It`s a 9.25" radius Mark. Will be offloading mine at some point too, just had a very necessary - but very unwanted - car bill so something has to pay for it.
That's both annoying and interesting... is it black on black with a maple neck, by any chance?
 2.
The Tony butler seems to have a deeper neck than the standard V4 for some reason... ...I would say it is thicker than any other precision I've played.
Really? I'll have to look out for one...
 3. Oh Hell's teats! Now I've got untrammelled Jazz GAS again!! Anything in particular you're looking for?
 4.
Ok, but do you all then use the same tuner? If not you won't be in tune. Orchestras manage. Ever asked yourself how?
Yes - it's too difficult so they don't bother. That's why orchestras sound like Paddy's moped.
 5.
A couple of the US bases even had chicken wire around the stage.
What, like 'The Blues Brothers'??
 6.
You light weight!! I used to do tours of American military bases in Germany, which would be 5x45 mins per night, every night of a tour!! And 6x45 mins a night in a club in Denmark, six nights a week. I dunno...some people ain't lived...
That is really something, talk about what doesn't kill you... I take it this was, er... a while back? Would you do it now?
 7. Davie made me some routing templates, having designed and made them himself in response to a post I made, then sent them to me... he didn't want paying for them or even ask for postage, which if course is above and beyond the call of duty. Doesn't get better than this. Thanks very much mate, very kind of you and I owe you one.
 8.
I've come to the conclusion that all the bass players I know, who have the best tone, seem to have the highest action on their basses. I know there's a pro US bass player who, not too long ago, joined this forum (and was then chased away by the grumpy regulars). His quote was, 'A low action is the enemy of tone'. Maybe he was right.
I think he IS right. A super-low action is way overrated imho. I raised the action on my basses recently to get a more 'DB' sound for a project and it's like night and day. In a good way. I think it's because the string has more room to vibrate properly. Plus, when I play live with a low action the sound seems a bit choked to me and when I start to dig in I get lots of fret buzz. So you need a light touch with a low action, too. A low action is fine for when you're practising or noodling at home, but when you're going for it at a gig it's better to have a higher action. As someone said above, it's good to fight the bass a little, it's well worth it. All in my opinion, of course. I voted for playability, but I don't see why you can't have a good sound as well?
 9.
Get a Jazz and stick a Precision neck on it - job done? Plenty of folk gone the other way - why is it that P neck on J body seems (to my limited statistical analysis) far less common?
Yes, that is another possible route but I'm not entirely sure on the best way to go about it. There is an Aria Jazz that has a P-width nut, but I haven't tried one. I did think about getting both a J and a P and swapping the necks, then selling the P with a J neck - no problem shifting that, as you say it's a much more popular combination. I think J-type necks are more popular generally. I have quite big hands so find some J necks uncomfortable.
 10.
Go for a post 2012 US Jazz Mark, although Jazz width they have a nice deep neck so don`t feel like a toothpick.
I may just do that Lozz, thanks for the info. Do you happen to know what the board radius is on those before I go a-Googlin'?
 11.
I tried a Jazz a couple of weeks ago and it was like a toothpick, I jut couldn't get on with it.
Sad but true, as I really like the look and sound of Jazz basses and frequently have GAS for them. Must resist...
 12.
Is there anyone who prefers a thick, chunky neck (half a baseball bat)?
Yes!
 13.
It could be argued that you generally don't see the clothes you're wearing, or the car you (may) drive around in... etc.

I drive an old Mondeo and predominately wear jeans, t-shirt and trainers (none of which have logos on)...what can I say
I similarly have no interest in clothes or cars as status indicators... my choices are made purely on functional considerations. Same with bass cabs, though I have no issue with the appearance of BF cabs. Of course the result of choosing clothes in particular for practical reasons can lead to 'fashion malfunction' and cause one's partner to say one looks like a bag of crap tied up with a piece of string, but I don't care...
 14.
"Have you ever tried a Barefaced cab? Have you done a gig with one?"
Well... have you? Fair questions, surely?
 15.
Look at Discreet's aggressive post further up the page, or on page 2, where Paul S. accuses JT of undertaking a *jihad* on Barefaced. I'm not keen on that either, as I don't think it's in the spirit of Basschat.
That's funny, I must be among the least aggressive posters on this forum. But if someone tries a BF cab and for whatever reason doesn't like it that's fair enough of course - what annoys me is when they are arbitrarily slighted for no good reason by people who I strongly suspect have never actually used a BF cab in anger. I'm not keen on that - I don't think it's in the spirit of BassChat. But when I ask the direct question, 'Have you ever actually used a Barefaced cab?' it all goes quiet. I really think one needs to have played through a BF cab at least once in a real-world situation before criticising them. I know little about cab or driver construction - I freely admit I'm not a qualified speaker guy - but I've been playing bass for a long time and know when I hear something I like - and obviously I like the sound of BF cabs. So I'm going to come on here and say so. Yes, I do get enthusiastic about products I like. If that annoys anyone or is not considered to be in the spirit of BassChat, then that's too bad. I'm entitled to review gear on this forum and I'm entitled to my opinions - just as everyone else is entitled to ignore them.
 16.
Are you familiar with the expression "ad hominem", Mr Discreet? Here is a link for you: https://en.wikipedia...wiki/Ad_hominem
I don't need the link, thanks very much. How is asking you if you're a qualified speaker guy a personal attack? I think it's a fair question which I ask again; are you a qualified speaker guy? Also, I would say that every single manufacturer of anything at all make claims about their products - it's called marketing. Why would Barefaced be the only company in the history of commerce that don't market their products? Why do you single out this company for criticism over any other cab manufacturer? I don't make any claims about Barefaced cabs other than those formed from personal experience of using them at home, at rehearsal and at gigs. If I like a bass-related product I'll come on here and share my views and opinions. If you've used a Barefaced cab and didn't like it, then that's fair enough. Have you gigged a Barefaced cab? If so, I'm assuming you didn't like it?
 17.
Interesting thread though, don't you think, where a few qualified speaker guys take Alex to task for making exaggerated claims about his products? Claims which, interestingly, you consistently repeat, Mr Discreet, at the drop of a hat.
The only US 'speaker guy' I have any time for is Bill Fitzmaurice, who tells it like it is. And I don't believe Alex makes any exaggerated claims about his products. Have you ever tried a Barefaced cab? Have you done a gig with one? Are YOU a qualified 'speaker guy'?
 18.
I am sure the BF cabs sound good. Personally I was put off when I read the spat on the "Smallest 2x12 cabinet" thread on TB.
Good Lord, you certainly don't want to believe anything you read over there!
 19.
Just to continue the silliness, its a cuboid actually
YOU'RE a cuboid!! *Runs away*
 20.
Amazingly, no I didn't . The clincher was when he said they weren't bothered about getting paid either. So I'd be learning songs for up to 18 months for the possibility of a gig for no money. He was practically talking me out of getting involved as we chatted.
Better than my experience of being told all kinds of positive things about a band's future when there was never any intention to do any gigs, let alone get paid. Probably best he said what he did - at least he was up front about it. Mind you, 18 months is one hell of a time to be learning songs! Did they have 500 numbers, or what?
 21.
damn, I've been out-spartacus'd
...and Spartacus, my gerbil. And my earwig, Kevin. Kevin Spartacus.
 22. '...No, I thought YOU were bringing the bloody wigs..?'
 23.
Sometimes time away from gigging and just focusing on playing in ones bedroom, really can add enjoyment to it all again, and make you a vastly better player. It's all down to situations and personal aspirations.
I do a bit of both... if I'm not rehearsing or gigging I'm learning new songs at home... the rest of the band do the same. We're of the opinion that rehearsal is a time to try out songs for the first time as a band, tweak the arrangements and such. It's not a time to be learning material from scratch. To save time I've been learning new material from existing band recordings and playing them for the first time at gigs, which can be entertaining to say the least... however, the band don't deviate (much) from the recordings, so that makes it easier...
