People playing loud music with no regard for others is one of my pet hates.
It's a problem. Another one is people who deliberately make their motorbike/car engines much louder than they ever need to be, for no good reason other than so say, 'look at me! I masturbate frequently and have no social skills or intelligence!'

Seller's remorse. I know it only too well.

I've not played one, but they seem to enjoy a fair amount of love on this board.
Never got the whole bushy beard thing. Why do these young guys go out of their way to look old.
It's merely a trend, like any other. It will pass. -
I can totally understand the desire to listen to music loudly; it stirs up primeval emotions and is a powerful experience. But there is the need (at least in my case) to balance that against hearing damage. One of the few sensible things I ever did was use hearing protection at the start of my bass playing career (1974) to this day, so I have the hearing of a sixteen-year-old. Not always an advantage (!) but all things considered I'd really rather not be deaf like the majority of my contemporaries.
I guess my problem is that I'm 30 and bearded with long hair, while the lead guitarist is also 30 but rapidly losing his . Perhaps I just shouldn't be trusted with a crayon let alone a keyboard .
Give the crayon to your guitarist, he can use it to draw some hair on his head until you've selected your band member. By the time they realise he's bald, it will be too late. Get everyone else to have a bit of a shave and a haircut, avoid being too zany and childish and you'll be golden. -

And beware of any candidates who are wearing a hat. They are doing so to focus attention away from some defect or other. They could even be bald, which is a no-no, obviously. Bushy beards are the same. There is no good reason for anyone to have a bushy beard. Avoid. If they are wearing a hat, have a bushy beard and turn out to be bald, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. -

As said, 'zany' and 'childish' have got to go. Even if it isn't a pro band, there's no reason why you shouldn't have a pro attitude. In my experience most people have some kind of mental illness anyway, and musicians more so than most. So you don't need to attract nutters, they will find you. People who describe themselves as 'zany' and 'kooky' inevitably are not - in fact they're usually very straight people who think that calling themselves 'a bit mad' will make them more interesting. It does not. My 2p. Keep to the facts. The more you give away at this stage the fewer applications you will get. -

Is it just me - basses for sale adverts?
discreet replied to graham1945's topic in General Discussion
I know what you mean, but I think that represents something of the view you'd get while actually playing the bass. To get round this I usually post at least two pics of the full bass, one with the body on the left and one with it on the right... plus a whole shedful of close-ups, etc. I actually find it more annoying when people only post one or two pics of a bass, or post pics that are out of focus or otherwise low-quality, i.e. phone pics, etc.
