I'm just tired of having to scroll down the same old posts looking for some useful info...
You won't find that here. Google is your friend.
I think, like some others that there's a compromise. A decent non-Class D amp is still only 12kg or so and lightweight cabs weigh not much more. It's not "micro" but my amp & cabs is still light enough for me and I hope will be for another 10 years at least. I appreciate some fellow BC'ers are much less able but these players should really stick to bedroom playing, I'm not really sure how they manage with a 10lb bass wrapped round there neck for a couple of hours at a time
I don't see why being 'less able' should preclude anyone from doing gigs. I agree that a Class A/B amp weighing 12kg isn't heavy - unless you need to carry it for a considerable distance. It's not always possible to park directly outside a venue, especially in large cities.
Both MIM, on the Fender documentation, every component is the same except the neck and body finish.
And the 'road wear' plus the thinner, quicker-wearing finish makes the roadworn basses that much more expensive? It would make sense to buy the Classic and 'road wear' it yourself... most effectively by gigging it! Saves a few hundred pounds, no? -
The Roadworns to my knowledge are made from select light woods. The 50s Classic aren't.

Possibly. I've seen nothing to suggest a difference and all the spec sheets seem the same.
This has been baffling me for some time. Does anyone know for sure? But they are both MIM, right? -
I'm with Discreet: how hard could it have been to make the bloody things the same width?...rrrrrrgggggghhhhh....
You can get a 2X10 ext cab and a 1X12 ext cab which are exactly the same width as the 500, so that's what I'd do - IF I were going down the ext cab route. However, having now played a few gigs with the 500, I can tell you that as a standalone combo it's a very loud box indeed and I'm seriously thinking about buying the 100 for tighter stages as it's much smaller and importantly, much lighter - less than 10kg - and in theory I could also use the 100 and the 500 together if I ever needed to... but they're different widths! I'd refrain from stacking them to avoid my own and possibly other people's OCD being aggravated - I have two amp stands, so I'd put the 500 on one firing forward and have the 100 on the other, which is small monitor-type stand. All hypothetical of course, as I can't think of a situation where I'd need to use both together. If a venue were too big for the 500 it would surely have a decent PA, no?

Bought young master discreet a Harley Benton P Bass a while back and it's perfect for him.
No need for that even but whilst people on a bass forum will buy gear that they see and hear with their eyes when their favourite players are clearly on in ears then it pays to ship 7 GK cabs around the world I guess?! They mic up one 10" speaker and that supposedly captures the tone of them all.
Of course, it's for the look of the thing. I'm sure some members here still like to stand in front of an impressive rig regardless. It was the case for me too, up until relatively recently. Now I'm gigging a lot more I very quickly came to appreciate gear that does what I want it to do but is also as portable as possible. I don't care too much about what it looks like on stage.
I dont mind heads smaller than cabs, its the ones wider than the cabs that I couldn't cope with on stage.
I agree, but an MB200 on an 8x10 is just hilarious.
Flea has 7 big cabs and no heads for example!
They're all empty - he has a Rumble 100 offstage.
...a complete custom spec instrument may be the only answer.
You may be right, but care is needed... if you spec a custom instrument and it turns out to be not what you were expecting or you just plain don't like it, it's very disappointing. With the added disadvantage that as it's built to specific parameters, it may be difficult to move on. Not that I want to put you off or anything...
For an instrument to be used it would blow an old fender out the water.
Very much a matter of opinion. They're not just investment pieces.
There are too many ss's in it. It sounds all hissy.
Yes, like 'Mississippi'. Or 'penises'. :-)
Yeah but in what finish?
Definitely 57 or after. Probably burst, gold anodized, maple. But I wouldn't discount the classic burst, tort, rosewood either. Or aged blonde, tort, rosewood. Hell, I'd be happy with ANY pre-CBS P!

That's easy - a pre-CBS Fender P.

'Bass Player' or 'Bass Guitarist' is fine with me, but 'Bassist' is on the long list of words I don't like, for some reason.
About as remote as someone reading the following sentence of the quote?
Yeah, I didn't get that far. I'm tired. But you were right, of course - he wasn't.

Generally you can with a solid-state amp but a valve amp needs a speaker load connected or you can damage it. Best to check online about the specific amp you want to do this with to be on the safe side.
-
I wonder how much of the sound we love and associate with valve amps actually comes from speaker stacks with many speakers such as 810s or two 410s. Maybe it`s the amount of speakers all going at once that we love. Now if only someone was using a micro Class D amp with an SVT810...
I briefly plugged a GK MB200 into an 8x10 in a rehearsal room and it sounded fantastic. But the MB200 sounds fantastic anyway. Looked pretty silly, though.
...the DI output from your head will be at line-level, so it'd be best to put it into the return of the 2nd amp. However, if you wanted to use separate EQ on the 2nd amp, and you didn't want to take a splitter of some kind (most tuners have 2 outputs) then you could get away going from the DI on the 1st amp into the input on the 2nd. You'd just have to have the input gain pretty low
Thanks for this. I don't think I'd want to introduce all the variables involved with separate EQing, just have the sound I normally get, but louder. If it ever happens I probably would experiment with stage placement, though. Maybe have one firing forward and the other as a side monitor across the stage, or something.
A heavy amp is still pretty light compared to a heavy cab
My family is aghast at how heavy my gear is, and I say, '...that's LIGHT for a bass combo!' But yes, it's the heavy cabs that do the real damage, especially if you're on your own. Hauling two 410s in a rock band did my back in for sure, they had to go. But I have trouble with a 35kg all-valve amp too, more's the pity. Those buggers are NOT light by any definition of the word.
Is 3 precisions too many?
I've got two, and was thinking that three is a better number... or maybe five. Or seven. Or something. -
That's right. When I built a 1 X 12 cab I waited until it was finished, then released the photographs and build posts over a matter of days. It's only polite and is the right thing to do. No-one is going to wait around forever for someone to put a J pup in a P Bass.
