...my 'new' Fender Rumble has put a smile on my face immediately... a combo can be useful sometimes.
Ah-ha, so you did it, then! I'm glad you like it. I'm going for the 100 as well...
The little'un is an RM800 head and a fairly rare RM110 cab made even more exotic with the classic line red grille with white piping. Only three of them in existence - I have one and Andy67 has the other two
That's off my list, then...
Here you go, cab with big logo:
Definitely an improvement, but the overhang still gives me palpitations... ooh, what's the little 'un??
Or maybe an ABY box, something like this, will do exactly what you want to do, and they don't cost a lot.. :-
Thanks very much for that - I did consider similar, but I want to keep boxes and leads down to an absolute minimum... just having one extra jack lead kind of appeals... having said that, just one combo and one cable would be the ultimate. I ask only out of curiosity, it's very unlikely I'll ever need to actually run two combos in the real world.

Of course, if you can't afford a 1957 P you could always buy a 1958 instead... it's a bit cheaper... http://andybaxterbas...ils.php?id=1014 Now THAT's what you call 'roadworn'. -
...under dim lighting, that gold coloured plate does look a bit white... Looking at it, I just can't help but feel there's something odd about having a metal scratchplate.... It's growing on me, but...
Odd? It's all that was available in 1957! Tobacco burst, gold anodised and one-piece maple is the archetypal P Bass, thus: A 1957 P bass yesterday. In 1957 tort was three years in the future. -
All good info, thanks guys.

Nothing sounds as good as an all-valve amp. However, you can get a good way there with a decent micro amp and largely that's good enough for most gigs taking into consideration the very real advantages to be had if you haul your own gear, do a lot of gigs and have trouble parking directly outside your venues. Back in the day I enjoyed a brief period when I didn't have to haul my own gear and used an Ampeg SVT-CL and 8X10 cab and nothing beats that for bass guitar - in my humble opinion. At the moment I'm using a lightweight combo and am looking at an even smaller lightweight combo because I'm finding my first lightweight combo just not lightweight enough! It also depends on your attitude, how many decades you've been hauling heavy gear around and what state your hernia is in.

Combo Slaving Question Here's a hypothetical question for you. Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere and is screamingly obvious to all concerned, but it's not something I've ever considered and I'm a bit of a lame-o when it comes to technical stuff, as we know... however: Let's assume one has two identical bass combo amps. Each has a post-Master XLR Line out, and each has a pair of 6.3mm Send and Return loop jack sockets. If one wanted to use both amps at the same time, i.e. one bass into two amps for maximum beans, could one take a line from the XLR Out of one amp to the Instrument Input of the second (thus having both preamps available and the ability to EQ each combo differently, i.e. one with big hefty thump and the other with hi-mids, top and a bit of grit?) OR, would it be preferable to take a line from the SEND of one amp into the RETURN of the second, thus bypassing the preamp of the second combo (but using the power stage of the second combo) and controlling everything from the preamp of the first amp? Or is there a much better way and I'm just talking out my arse, as usual? I thank you!
An expensive bass hung on the wall is the equivalent of a trophy deer skull hung outside your camp. Great bass, I have GAS for similar! But definitely gold for that authentic 57 look. Tort is valid with burst and maple, but not modern tort. If you're going to do it at all get an original 60s/70s tort guard (tricky and expensive) or a Spitfire tort guard (expensive). https://spitfiretortoiseshellpickguards.wordpress.com/ The one in the pic is not great (sorry). Compare it with the original tort on the 72 P currently for sale and you'll see what I mean. -
I still lust after backline that is lighter, louder, lower...
I suppose I have GAS for a smaller combo, but as it's needed for a real-world situation it's not really GAS, is it?
On the issue of sound being too clean just add a VT bass pedal.
'Too clean' is not possible in my current band.
I foolishly sold my MB CM121P. That was brilliant and loud enough to gig with a drummer and an easy carry.
That's in the lead at the moment.
Having typed all the above, I then remembered the Barefaced one10.
Looked at that, it seems rather remarkable for its size and price, but having experience the joys of the combo, I want another! If Alex did a One10 Combo I'd be all over it like plumpo on chips.
I tried one once and was a bit underwhelmed. Fabulously clean tones, light/easy to lift, smart looking, but the sound seemed a bit lacking in oomph. If you're thinking of spending that kind of money, I'd look at AER.
The AER stuff does indeed look great, thanks. More research needed. Which was the PJB you tried?
Phil Jones Bass Briefcase - 100watt, 2x5". I like it a lot, both tone and ease of carrying, but I only use it at home and for quieter rehearsals. Having said that, I expect it would be fine for quieter gigs, probably with no drummer, or with brushes, or with cajon.
Thanks for that. We are a quiet band, but I'd want to be able to use it in other bands if necessary. This is the specific item I was thinking about: http://www.bassdirec...t_Suitcase.html

Does Anyone Own A Phil Jones Combo? If so, what's it like? My new band plays a few tight stages, but I don't want to compromise on sound quality or power. Having said that, my Rumble 500 combo is way overpowered for most of the gigs we play (I'm gigging at a lower level that I use at home!) and though only 16.5kg, if I have to park a fair way from the venue (in London this is almost inevitable) it becomes heavier in proportion to distance... so either I arrive with arms like a gibbon, or I have to use my folding sack truck - which is a right pain in the arse for many reasons. I've been looking at products from Markbass et al, but am fascinated by the little PJB combos... so my question is this: Do you have one of these tiny PJB powerhouses? If so, what's it like? They are most probably powerful enough for my current band, but if I joined a band with a shed-building drummer could I realistically use one without an extension cab? Would it be loud enough? Can you easily carry them about like a... suitcase? What's the deal with these amps? I thank you!
