Oh how I wish I hadn't seen that. If you haven't seen it, don't click on the link and do yourself a favour.
Not as entertaining as 'Well, all Fenders always have dead spots'.
Just checked my P Bass and it really doesn't have a single dead spot. But to be pedantic, it's a Limelight and not a Fender. HOWEVER... my 76P is most definitely a Fender and that doesn't have any dead spots either. Well OK, one. In a position where I'd never play it.
Down South on the sunshine coast...
I should point out this is down south on the Sunshine Coast near Hastings, not down south on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Just to be clear. P.S. John is a very nice man and his work is of the highest standard.

Not that much really, until I joined a new band recently - who play several genres of music I'm not particularly familiar with. I'm really enjoying doing the research and finding out everything about them... and of course I now realise that (like a lot of things) when you delve deeper into a subject, it is actually nothing like you imagined it to be, and nothing like the public's mainstream perception of it. I've heard so much music I haven't heard before over the last week or two it's making my head spin. In a good way...

"Could you turn your backline down a bit ? "
discreet replied to JohnFitzgerald's topic in Amps and Cabs
"What did you bring that for?"
I've had "What are you doing here?" Seriously though, over the years I seem to have been getting quieter and quieter and my gear less and less powerful... I'm of the opinion that my TH350 produces more than enough beans, even at 8ohms. And I tend not to play with, or at least not believe, drummers who say they can't 'get their sound' without playing very loudly. Same goes for guitarists. If you're playing a pub with massive backline and everything through the PA including the drums, then I'm off. You don't need a stadium's worth of gear to actually play a stadium, in fact... it's nuts. Perhaps as one gets older, one has less to prove..? -
Beta Test & Review D’Addario NYXL Bass Strings
If anyone finds the strings are not for them, please pass them on to others to give a try
I'm up for unwanted strings! Must be uncut or at least cut for a Fender headstock, thanks... -
Old flats= dead spots New rounds= musical bliss

Not at all in my experience.
Mine neither. Or at least not yet, anyway...
Anybody want some Thomastik flats?
Surprising! Just fitted Thomastiks to two of my basses and I like 'em.

Manshed studio build **ADVICE ON INSULATION PLEASE**
The shorter the daylight hours, the louder I go, within reason of course. Summer is always quite quiet as people insist on sitting in their garden.
That's right, the bloody bastards! Carrying on like they own the place! You'd think they'd have better things to do! -
A quick Google turns up this, but I haven't used them and have no experience of the results!

Log in trouble ? Help ! -MODS YOU CAN DELETE DUE TO IDIOT ERROR :)
You don't think that this thread should be preserved until the poor child can read it and properly repudiate the allegations?
Yes. -
Have GAS for this, but haven't heard one. If it's got 'that' Ampeg all-valve warmth it'll be a winner. Fifty valve watts is enough to gig with, in my opinion. I had a 100W all-valve amp a while back and I couldn't get the master above 9 o'clock without creating an earthquake, so... there's my opinion.
I'm glad to be shot of it TBH.
I think I would be, too. Excelsior!
The Gallien Krueger MB Fusion can do what you want.
It can, and of all the amps mentioned it is this and/or the Aguilar Tone Hammer I would recommend. Both cracking amps.
Makes you wonder about ever buying stuff from those sorts of places!
Buying used always has some kind of risk attached to it. But if the price is right, it's often too tempting to resist. And generally I've had few problems buying from eBay shops. Gumtree is dodgier, as there are fewer checks and balances in place and Crack Converters is pretty much a Wild-West situation where the dollar is king. Having said that, most items of interest I ever see in CC seem to be overpriced.
...you could replace the whole Wiring Loom yourself with one of KiOgon's famous solderless looms...
+1. John uses the best components, there's no soldering and his prices are extremely reasonable. The kits includes pots, wiring and cap. It's laughably easy to fit. Even I can do it. Great value, too. It will take you ten or fifteen minutes, if that. Recommended!
Easy payment? Surely you can work out a direct transfer, it's a sinch, easy peasy. Shall I put it on hold for you?
It would be very easy! But I fear the words 'insufficient funds' would appear somewhere in the transaction...
-
Cheers Mark. So you got a new project on the go? 76P back in action?
No, Limelight Daytona Red 63 P in action! But I'd much rather have a lovely Fender 57 P in action!! How about an easy-payment scheme??
-
I look pretty much every day. He is very much at the high end of the market price-wise, though. Just an observation, not a complaint. You get what you pay for and can be confident the instruments are what he says they are, so peace of mind really.
Or, you could have a bargain 1957 P for £5800 o.n.o.
Believe me, if I had £5800 knocking about it would have been in your hot hands quite some time ago. Very, very lovely bass - would be absolutely perfect for my latest project.
Didn't some plonker on here say a while back, if you can't treat a bass right then you shouldn't look after children!
To be honest I do tend to take more care of my basses than I do young master discreet, but he can look after himself.
Bed? Everyone knows Real musicians sleep on a mate with a jobs sofa...
I meant somebody's else's bed, obviously... Plus, I haven't slept on a mate for ages. Just the current mrs discreet. And I don't see what Steve Jobs' sofa has got to do with it.
I want something a little lighter and maybe solid state (maybe). Kind of like the warm vintage tone. A friend suggested a mark bass tte501 which looks ok. Anything else anyone could recomend?
Another vote for the Aguilar Tone Hammer. Warm, light and solid-state. Doesn't sound light, though. Can be got used on here for not a lot of cash.
