1. One with rounds for 'rock'-type music... and one with flats for, er... 'everything else'. One is rosewood, one maple... obviously I need a third strung with half-wounds, as a spare/backup... ...and I'd quite like a Cabronita. And a Mike Dirnt Roadworn... hmm...
  2.
...please feel free to enjoy going all Lynn Truss on my ass...
I look forward to it.
  3.
Slip of the finger... the original post pointed out that I'd never listened through to a full album by either the Smiths AND the Cure.
I know it did, I read it. I'm sorry to say I couldn't resist being an arse.
  4.
It was Tangled Up In Blue that got me on board with Dylan. Good luck with getting the gig!
Thanks! In my case it's Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You.
Discovering and listening to bands has never been easier than with Deezer, Spotify, YouTube, etc
That is very true, but the process of deciding which piece to play from literally millions of tracks representing pretty much every single recording ever made since the beginning of time is daunting to say the least and I often end up not choosing anything at all...
  5.
Given that the drummer can't realistically memorise all of the tempos of the songs in our set list - we bought (as a band) one of these I can recommend them highly.
They ARE good, but I was once in a band with a drummer who was, er... 'less than metronomic' - he'd listen to the click, then furiously start the number at a completely different tempo. What can you do?
  6.
Clocked it but I just got another early Marathon!
Good Lord! Come on Ash, buy this 4040 - then you can sell it to me when I'm flush!
  7.
...To take my original examples, like the Smiths. Loved Marr's playing, couldn't abide Morrissey - sufficiently that, bar the odd single, they were an effective no go area for me. Apart from Lovecats and Friday I'm In Love they just didn't catch my ear...
I almost hesitate to point it out, but I believe those songs were by The Cure. An honest mistake, I'm sure.
  8.
I did have a massive blind spot with Bob Dylan... ...Joined a band that played a huge range of his stuff and I'm now a big fan.
Same here. For years I wondered what all the fuss was about. Learnt a track from Nashville Skyline for a recent audition and immediately understood the huge talent involved, where before I saw nothing. Still, better late than never, eh? I've only been in the dark for about 50 years, so no harm done. This band are of a genre I know very little about, so I really hope I get the gig! It's all new to me!

    obbm's feedback

Dave bought some strings from me - super-fast payment and a very smooth transaction... ...as you'd expect from a pillar of the Basschat community. Recommended!
  10.
I figure use two of them for rehearsals and small-venue gigs, all three for the larger stages. Not that I think sound-wise I would probably need them, but that stack of three of them on Barefaced's website just looks sooooo good, and would be the right size on a big stage.
Too right! Or how about four..? This from Barefaced... The 12 ohm version allows you to use up to three cabs with a solidstate amp with a 4 ohm minimum load. Many solidstate amps will run four cabs because the resulting 3 ohm load is easy enough. The ultimate (and modular) 8X10! So you could have a 210, a 410, a 610 and an 810. If that's not flexible I don't know what is.
  11.
I was talking about sea bass fleas.
They're the worst! Once they get in your pubes you just can't get 'em out.
  12.
Currently looking at three Barefaced Retro 210s to replace my two Barefaced Super12Ts, so researching like crazy.
Wow! That would be awesome! Let us know how it pans out, Lozz.
  13. God, yes. I do as much research as possible, trawl this forum and the other place, trawl teh interwebz in general, find every single reference, review and pic - every possible scrap of information about the item that I can. Then I'll email the manufacturer, distributor, retailer and anyone else I can think of with questions and generally make a bloody nuisance of myself.
  14.
...It doesn't help that the drummer doesn't properly listen to the songs and learn his part before going into the rehearsal room. I don't need the hassle of band stress so I'm just going to leave. He thinks he is awesome...
Classic delusional behaviour. I won't tolerate anyone who thinks rehearsal is a time to be learning material. You can't learn a song by listening to it in the car on the way in and then winging it. You're quite right to walk, imho. You can't change people. These days I try to find players with the right attitude from the off, but I appreciate this is no easy task in the real world.
  15. Hayman 4040 Bass - Buy It! Very rare Hayman 4040 Bass. If I had the loot I'd be all over this even though I already have a Hayman 4040. To find one in this condition with its perspex 'H' logo and serial number plate/truss rod adjuster cover still in place is very unusual. These are not only classic vintage British hand-made basses, they are superb players and sound absolutely fantastic. The necks on these really are second to none. If you can afford this, buy it at any price. Seriously. Not many were made before Hayman became Shergold and of course they're getting rarer all the time. Mine is going nowhere, it's a fantastic bass. Like I say, if I had the folding this would be coming to discreet towers. 16.
Well I better trade in the £5 digital camera for that task
No don't do that, you'll end up with thirty bloody cameras next.
  17. Timing is everyone's responsibility, not just the drummer's. Having said that, if you're lucky enough to have a really great drummer it certainly helps. And I've been in that situation of being a one-man bass metronome before, and it totally sucks any joy out of the process of playing bass. And like you say, it is really bloody tiring. I hope you get it sorted one way or another.
  18.
...Living room is twice the size of the present one, I'll be able to get all the Peaveys in for a family photo but not their cousins and kin. Don't think there's a wide angle lens big enough for that...
Maybe a John Entwistle-type collection book of pics?
  19. Hey Royston, welcome to the forum. 53 isn't a ripe old age on here mate, it's the average. Good luck.
  20.
I got it for £9.99 from The Works a few years ago. I thought it a bargain and evidently it was!
Yes. I think £95 a bit steep, around £40 is enough for what it is. A tenner is definitely a bargain.
  21. Now that is a lot of Peaveys. Most impressive. Are you buying a bigger place just to house them all..?
  22.
Can someone confirm that this message has posted please?
Well... can you see it..?
  23.
Phew I thought it was going to run and run and run...
Nah, we're all bored with it now.
