1.
No way will the Mods close this thread down as long as we continue to praise his artistry.
Has anyone actually played any of his instruments? They may look, er... 'unusual', but you never know, perhaps they're the best-playing and best-sounding instruments on the planet - in which case they are a complete bargain.
 2. Love it. Wish I could afford to buy basses on a whim... ...though actually I don't think this one exists - the pics make it look like it's someone's dream sequence... *cue theremin music*
 3. I assumed it wasn't about trying to get the same sound with both methods, but equalising the volume between fingers and pick so that one isn't louder than the other in the mix? Or have I missed something again?
 4. God, this is taking ages!! Seriously though, it looks like good clean work. As you'd expect, really.
 5.
you expecting me to produce a £1,000 bass for sale?
Isn't that what this is leading up to? Why would you bother otherwise??
 6. Concentrate on keeping the fingerstyle and pick at the same level volume-wise, is what I'd do. I'd also avoid using pedals or any external FX, that's just going to introduce unnecessary variables... I'm sure it can be done with just the fingers. And pick.
 7. If it's just one song I'd be tempted to do the matching through dynamics and not worry about physically changing EQs, otherwise it's going to be a massive pain in the arse with variable results at best. How is your fingerstyle compared with your pick playing?
 8.
You're confusing me with someone else. I was with Bruce Forsyth
Yes, and I lived with Bonnie Langford.
 9. The words 'heavy metal' are to be found in the lyrics of Steppenwolf's 'Born To Be Wild' (1968).
 10.
Voila! Not the best picture quality in the wold but it was taken in the spring of 1968. Rehearsal at GPO Hall, Easton Street, High Wycombe.
11.
Not the best picture quality in the wold but it was taken in the spring of 1968. Rehearsal at GPO Hall, Easton Street, High Wycombe.
That's fantastic, thanks for posting! Good effort. I'll get it into PhotoShop and see if I can improve it any. Great pic!
 12. Apparently as I dislike all the songs, the internet thinks I'm not an asshole, but that's just nonsense because I know for sure that I am. Surveys!! They are meaningless...
 13.
Not the greatest pics...
Good enough! Loving the aged blonde look, very nice. Must... resist... Jazz GAS...hnnng!
 14.
Very nice Mark, loving the light relic, you will have to bring it around at some point
I surely will, Dave.
Nice one - it's a dead ringer for the 1963 I had in the late 1960s. I have a hazy pic of me at a rehearsal with it...
I would dearly like to see that pic!
 15.
...my '78 P was given the moniker DeeDee by a former bandmate coz of it's colour / neck combo...
I have a 76 in exactly the same livery... I really must post a few pictures of it one of these days...
 16.
I picture him as the mad scientist from The Human Centipede!
That film amused and disturbed me in equal measure. Proper entertainment.
 17. This has already been posted as a NBD in 'Bass Guitars' but I feel 'Show us your Limelight!' is its spiritual home... Limelight Dakota Red Precision Bass, 1963.
 18.
...I swear he drove past me in Fraddon, Cornwall on Sunday. I was just pulling out of a junction from the A30 and he was just turning on.
You should have rammed him. You would have been awarded an MBE for services to music.
 19.
That's put me right off salt, that has.
And cellars.
...having been in bands with people who have no music theory knowledge, it makes it very difficult for them to articulate their ideas to the rest of the band. It can end up getting very frustrating trying to figure out exactly what they're looking for.
I have no such problem. We'll have to agree to disagree here, as is usual in this situation. I just resent the implication that because I'm 'not hot on musical theory', I'm automatically excluded by the music police from any kind of access to 'proper' music or 'real' bands. Which of course is nonsense. I have an idea that some of the most successful bands in the history of popular music are made up of musicians with no knowledge of music theory. Thhhp!!
 20.
I've been in bands with people who say they don't want to learn any theory as its boring, like wise I find it boring spending ages on one song because they don't know what a flat 7 is for example and those "patterns" don't work all of a sudden!
I find it boring spending ages on one song, too.
Those who only play at home or a solo act or even in a band of like minded folk that's great to carry on regardless, 20 plus new songs for a gig this weekend with other musicians that know their stuff, forget it.
Very rarely need to do a gig with musicians I've never met before. Granted, I might find it a bit tight learning 20 plus songs for a gig this weekend, but I wouldn't accept a gig on so little notice. Even if I were a reader I'd prefer some kind of rehearsal beforehand, anyway. You're probably right though, I bet people get really hacked off with Pino and his carrying on regardless. Tsk!
 21.
...she makes the 'L' shape with her thumb and first finger as an aid memoir.
Are you sure she's not just calling you a loser?
 22. Depends if you think you need it or not. I've managed perfectly well with patterns, movement and sound. I find music theory a very boring subject which is why I haven't bothered. It makes me lose the will to live. I find it is the enemy of spontaneity. I'm likely to be shot down in flames for saying this, so don't get me wrong - some people's minds work in certain ways and people tend to find the best way of doing things for them. I have no issue with people who are able to learn music theory, advanced maths, German, Finnish, physics, programming, et al. It's just not for me. On the same subject, I don't understand people who feel that if they don't make 'progress' with an instrument that they have failed in some way. They feel as if they've 'hit a wall' or are 'in a rut' with their playing. Again, I don't have an issue with people who want to improve themselves, I just don't feel the need to quantify how 'good' or otherwise I am at playing bass. I don't practise scales or feel I have to spend a certain amount of time every day on an instrument. It's not a competition - it's art. If I can do what I feel needs to be done in an interesting and creative way and it sounds good, then I'm happy. Is that so very wrong, people??
