1.
...pay me enough and I will swallow my pride.
I will, too. Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with people who are in covers bands, and some bands do it exceptionally well, it's just not something I want to do at the moment. That can always change of course, depending on how skint (or otherwise) I get this year.
 2.
...over the years, we’ve unwittingly created a tried & tested formula that basically starts with one band doing one cover version very well, so everyone else thinks it’s a must-have in the set. As a result, IMHO covers bands haven’t really evolved in the way they could.
That's true, but it's very much a 'supply and demand' situation. Your typical pub or function audience aren't really the kind of people who are 'into' music in the way that a musician or anorak would be and they know exactly what they want to hear, which is inevitably the music they were hearing when they were at an impressionable age. So that means hit records, and of course these run from the early sixties to the present depending on the age of the listener. Which is why an average cover set is so wide-ranging. At a wedding (for example) you're going to get toddlers to great-grandparents so you need to have something for everyone in the set.
 3.
I guess I won't be asking you to dep for me then
For you Gary, I'd make an exception - if the price is right.
 4.
Well that's a set list that would go down well in any pub in the land!
I'm just not covers band material, obviously.
 5. Might be easier and a lot cheaper to get some kind of stand or something to angle the cab so you can hear it?
 6.
If you're serious about a cover band then no song should be "off limits" unless it gets no reaction or worse still a negative reaction from an audience or your band can't do it justice. The bottom line is that you're there to satisfy the audience first. As there are thousands of hit songs from the last 60 years there should be a lot of numbers where the audience and you can agree.
I agree with the above, but unfortunately there are songs I just will not play and so I don't 'do' covers bands. They include, but are not limited to: Sex On Fire, All Right Now, Mustang Sally, Mr Brightside, Brown Eyed Girl, Sweet Home Alabama, All The Small Things, Get Lucky, Honky Tonk Woman, Brown Sugar, Play That Funky Music, Creep, Smoke On The Water, Hotel California, Superstition, Proud Mary, Wonderful Tonight, Born To Be Wild, Wonderwall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Moves Like Jagger... and yes, bleeding Summer of Fecking 69. There you have it. There are lots more but I can't think of them right now...
 7. Had two items from them now, great service and communications, fast delivery. All good so far.
 8.
My Frog is on the way.
9.
I posted a topic about my exercise bike a few days ago.
Is it this one? http://basschat.co.u...arrow-xl-today/
 10.
The deed is done , confirmation email sent. Watch this space!
Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet?
 11.
Sent him an email to see if I could get it shipped out with Flats and if there was a potential date yet. Still no reply back, admittedly it is new year, but as I got no reply with my other emails I'm guessing either my email is suspect or he's taken some time off.
He'll report you for stalking him if you're not careful...
 12.
That can't be right, Isn't Tom Jones Welsh? Tom is a soul man.
Just a good-natured dig at our neighbours. And not racist at all.
 13.
C'mom....are you saying that Keith Richards, Macca, John Entwistle, [insert famous rocker here], etc didn't for one moment consider the positive effect being in a band would have on their relations with the opposite sex ?
McCartney became the bass player in The Beatles by default. He didn't want to to it. 'None of us wanted to be the bass player. We wanted to be up front. In our minds, it was the fat guy in the group who nearly always played the bass and he stood at the back. We wanted to be up front, singing and looking good, to pull the birds...'
 14.
This pretty much sums it up.
I'd better apologise - it's probably racist, or something. Sorry.
 15.
He's into Classical, he likes Bach.
Sospan Bach..?
 16. Ohh... just my luck to be going through a 'no-Jazz basses' phase. Lovely bass. These sound really great.
 17.
How to log in... (advice from Springfield's most famous bassist)
Oh God, that's the episode where Homer deliberately puts on weight so he can work from home. Totally hilarious.
 18.
So, you don't like any genre or any kind of music?
He doesn't like anything - he's Welsh.
 19. Good effort, but no amount of bodywork can conceal the fact it's a Citroen Xantia. The moral is, if you're modding something, make sure it's something that's cool in the first place otherwise you're turd-polishing.
 20.
Yes! La Bella Flats! Ask for the Mustang bass set...
I had no idea La Bella did a Mustang Set. Thanks for posting... every day's a school day.
 21. La Bella 760 FHB2 Flatwound (Medium Scale) 36-56-77-96, perhaps? Bass Direct have them. When you say 'string-through', do you mean through-body?
 22.
Is the log still in trouble? I'm a little worried.
Me too. Four pages and still no solution.
