1. Bernard Edwards. And he sounded... pretty good to say the least.
 2.
...a great bassist, but a bit of a dick.
Could be said of a few on here...
 3. Absolutely love Eberhard, have done for years, and pretty much everything on ECM records. Thanks for posting. I will listen to that when everyone's gone to bed...
 4. You've got to think that someone dropped the ball there anyway, even without taking into consideration the Paris attacks.
 5.
I've got a set of brand new La Bella flats cut to fit my mk1 if you want them for nothing?
Hmm... that's a bit steep.
 6.
That is lovely. Needs tort.
What?? No! 70s Fenders are all about black pickguards.
 7.
Fender logos were better in the '70s IMHO.
YEAH!
 8.
+1. A 50% setting, which is down 4.5dB, shouldn't cause a heat issue. Where it's usually a problem is when it's turned fully or nearly fully off, and being a resistor all of the power going through it is burned off as heat.
Thanks Bill, then that is what I'll do from now on.
I agree with Bill F completely and will add that I suspect that many cabs that are built to a budget will employ L-pads that are borderline or downright underrated. Stepped attenuators or on/off switches are much better options than budget L-pads but most manufacturers build to a price point with little regard for long-term reliability.
Thanks... as usual you get what you pay for, I suppose...
 9. Ooh, it does look a little bit like a D*ngw*ll, don't you think??
 10.
Assuredly. It's rare, usually the result of inadequate slope in the high pass filter and an LPad that's undersized, but it does occur... you might find it's best to use a combination of moderate lowering of the tweeter level with the LPad along with EQ.
Thanks Bill, so it IS possible. Presumably if the tweeter level was set at, say, 50% or so as a precaution against the probability of burn-out, then it would take proportionately less extreme EQ settings to achieve the final tone.
 11. This is also in Repairs and Technical but I wanted to put it here as well as there is another 'Tweeter' thread here which may have some bearing on this one... or not. Dad has already posted useful comments in Repairs and Technical, I hope it's OK to post it here as well..? If not, delete... Tweeter/Horn/Crossover Questions... From what I can glean from t'interwebz, minimising tweeter activity with the LPad (the big potentiometer-type thing on the back which varies the effect of the tweeter) can produce a resistance in the circuit which manifests itself as heat in said LPad - it is possible to burn out the LPad and the crossover and even damage the tweeter/horn in the process. Allegedly. Firstly, is this really the case? And secondly if so, then should there not be a warning label on the cab to inform us of this fact? Thirdly, is it still a problem on those cabs that have an on/off switch for the tweeter/horn, or does that take it out of the circuit altogether? I have read on TB and elsewhere that if you have a cab with a tweeter/horn you should run the cab with the tweeter ON and make subsequent necessary tone adjustments using your amp EQ. I have a cab with a tweeter and have recently started running it with the tweeters up FULL as an experiment - and it is indeed possible to make the necessary adjustments at the amp. In fact - in my humble opinion, this actually improves the overall sound of the cab... so fourthly, is it just my imagination, or does the cab actually sound better overall with the tweeter running, as this is how the circuit was designed to be used? Or fifthly, is it just silly bullplop? I thank you!!
 12. Yeesssss.... thing is though you won't ever know how good La Bella are if you don't try them. However, if you want to give flats a go and are determined to be cheap about it, you could try some Fender 50-100 9050ML and see what you think. They're good strings.
 13.
...unfair to expect normal operation from something with a fault. Some faults will not cause problems; others could be dangerous. Any fault should be fixed, if normal conditions are to be relied upon...
In fact the fault did cause a problem and the tweeter, crossover and LPad have been taken out of the equation. All is good now, albeit a tweeterless good. Thanks for the comments, Dad.
 14.
I think I'm nursing a semi
I hope it gets better.
 15. Tweeter/Horn/Crossover Questions... I wonder if someone with more technical knowledge than myself (pretty much everyone) can shed some like on this? I bought a cab recently which had a non-functioning tweeter and/or crossover, which I knew about, and this was reflected in the price. No bother as generally I don't use 'em and if I get a cab with a tweeter or horn I inevitably turn it down to minimum anyway, so no biggie. However... from what I can glean from t'interwebz, minimising tweeter activity with the LPad (the big potentiometer-type thing on the back which varies the effect of the tweeter) can produce a resistance in the circuit which manifests itself as heat in said LPad - it is possible to burn out the LPad and the crossover and even damage the tweeter/horn in the process. I have one cab with a horn and one with a tweeter and have recently started running them with the horn/tweeters up FULL as an experiment - and it is indeed possible to make the necessary adjustments at the amp. In fact - in my humble opinion, this actually improves the overall sound of the cab... so fourthly, is it just my imagination, or does the cab actually sound better overall with the tweeter running, as this is how the circuit was designed to be used? Or fifthly, is it just silly bullplop? I thank you!!
 16. You have to give it to Rod, the lovable little Scottish cockney git.
 17. Not heard that before, thanks for posting.
 18. I have a creamy oly white/black/maple 76 and it's excellent. This one is SO clean and a real bargain for someone.
 19.
...a Precision is a Fender. Accept no imitations.

May I ask why you're looking for an alternative to a P bass? - the right one is unbridled joy.
All true, all true...
 20. Nothing. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-hahhh haaaahhhhh!!! Seriously though, Lakland make a very good P Bass... as does Mike Lull... Sandberg... G&L... Peterbuilt... Limelight... Maruszcyk seem to be getting love on here, but I've not seen or tried one yet. Or did you mean a bass that has a split pickup and sounds like a P that is not necessarily P-Bass shaped..?
 21. I don't like compression as a 'remedial' treatment at source, but I do like it as an effect, i.e. the big fat lushness you get with a Diamond BCP-1 for example. I go through phases of using it, then thinking it's not necessary - depending on my compressor budget.
 22.
...we decided to put fairy lights around the drum kit and as I was stood on them during our performance I continued to get electric shocks in one number and blacking out! Huge surges down my arms too! Got through the number though, ha ha...
You only need about 1A across your heart for a second or so to kill you stone dead. You were very lucky.
 23. Maybe Lige Curry would be interested in them? ...I'll get me coat.
