1.
Sigh...
You can't please all of the people all of the time. Especially on Basschat.
 2.
Now how does "smoke on the water" go again?
Da da daaa, da da da-daaa, da da da-da-da da-daahhhh! Etc.
 3. Good Lord. That is something of a bargain. Thanks for the info.
 4.

When I saw the notification I just knew it was going to be Dick Emery.
 5. It's awful, but I quite like it for some reason.
 6. I can think of one or two cutting remarks.
 7. Yes, I've followed William's career with interest since the late sixties. Not sure I'd appear in public with that particular instrument, though.
 8.
Using ancient Greek. . . . no wonder you confused everyone!
Εν οίδα ότι ουδέν οίδα.
 9.
Sending it back! Gave fender a call, they reckon UPS dropped it
Probably just as well it's going back, then. Even if you had got it working, if it's been dropped there's no way of knowing what other damage has been done that would come back to bite you in the arse a year or two down the line. Won't be long, you'll have seismic creamy heft soon enough!
 10.
That would explain a lot... does this mean the TH350 is actually a 500W+ amp? If so, it represents something of a bargain...

Actually it explains nothing whatsoever, claimed output is meaningless and loudness is subjective.

No, the TH350 is a 350w amp, like it says.
OK, probably my fault for not putting about ten smilies at the end of my post. I do not think that the TH350 is a 500W amp, and I'm quite well aware that output power ratings have little bearing on 'loudness', however you want to define it. Like many of my posts, the comment was intended to be cynical. I thought the ellipsis at the end of the sentence would have been sufficient to indicate this, but apparently not.
 11.
Duh, I should've read the thread before posting...
No worries, it's good to have my ramblings confirmed now and then.
 12. What would I do? I'd take the bass back to the seller and ask for my money back, as it is clearly unfit for purpose. What did the seller say when you contacted him? Did you tell him you wanted to return the bass? His 'not knowing' about the problem doesn't alter the fact you have essentially been sold a dud. Easy to say in hindsight I know, but I always ask if the truss rod is working when I buy a bass.
 13.
These tuners look like the Schallers Fender used in the mid/late 70's, not like the tuners made in-house from late 60's to mid 70's. However, to be 100% sure, a picture of the rear of the headstock would be helpful. That doesn't mean the tuners on this particular bass are not original. There is no certain date when Fender started to use Schaller tuners. For every change in hardware there is a transition period where both the "old" and the "new" type were used.
As I pointed out in post #7, so we may even be right!
 14.
I've been given the option to send it back (for free) and have a new one sent out for tomorrow
If they're sorting it out that quickly then go with it. If you don't know exactly what you're doing it's probably best to keep your fingers out of an all-valve amp.
 15.
I like rock/punk rock and classic rock if that helps? And for my sins I'm also a pick player too...
Aguilar TH350 or TH500? I play rock with a pick and am currently using a G-K MB500. Huge sound.
 16.
So I got a brand new Fender Super Bassman in the post today...
This may be your problem. It's possible one or more valves have become unseated.
 17.
I've gone to the even darker side & taken up keyboards this year.
GET OUT!!
 18. Not in the OP's options but IME, Markbass amps are relatively 'loud' given their spec - at least if you define 'loudness' as that attribute of auditory sensation in terms of which sounds can be ordered on a scale extending from quiet to loud. Just sayin'.
 19. I thought this was going to be some kind of confession going by the thread title. Mind you, I'm not sure I'd publicly admit to having GAS for an *l*ctr*c g**t*r, so maybe it is... (I bought a Harley Benton Strat a while back. Hee, hee.)
 20.
Ah, that'd be me, then!
Nope!
 21.
Very nice cabbage, BTW - do you have an allotment?
No, it's a subtle insult to one or two members of this forum who apparently have the mental capacity of a vegetable.
 22.
A back to back test is the only useful comparison.
Quite, hence my comment in Post #7.
 23.
...for £350 can I really complain?
No!
