1. Thanks, that's interesting. Would I be right in thinking that you could also bypass the pre by connecting a VT Bass into the Return socket of the FX loop?
 2.
...the bottom amp is being used purely as a slave power amp (preamp-out on the top connected into the poweramp-in on the bottom) so I don't need access to the controls on the bottom amp as the top one controls both anyway.
About that... sorry for the stupid question, I've never used a slave power amp as such - I get that the top pre controls both amps, but what's the deal with speaker connections? Do you just connect the top amp or must you connect both amps to a speaker cab to get full beans? What's the impedance situation? And presumably because you run the bottom amp from the top pre, that connection doesn't disable the top power amp? Otherwise there would be no point in doing it, right? I'm wondering about the possibility of adding a power amp to my SVT350H. Not that it seems to need one, as it's bloody loud anyway - but you know how we juggle these things around in our minds...
 3. The unwritten rule of this forum is that without pics, your new bass does NOT exist!
 4.
Smashing review Mark

Good review as always Discreet, interested in one of these now.
Thanks for the positive comments all.
 5.
Liked it enough to get the gig..??
I dunno... they have two more to see yet.
 6.
You say that now...
7.
^^^ that's all good to hear.
^^^ It certainly is! Just by the way, I used my 21012L at an audition last Friday and it sounded incredible. The band commented very positively on the sound I was getting (P Bass/SVT350H/Schroeder) which is a first for me at an audition. But then it's the first time I've ever used my own kit at an audition, so...
 8.
a wignal
I'm not wearing a wignal for anybody. If I go bald, then I go bald and that's that.
 9.
IMO most players don't focus on the most important area, their technique. Get that right and you can sound good on any old gear.
Here we have the crux of the matter.
 10.
Yep, I try to avoid the G as much as possible, and also try to play anything D upwards on the A, as it has more "beef" to it/
+1
 11.
...Pickup config is also a big factor, I think when people say they like a particular type of bass I think that's largely due to the pickup config, P and music man are the classic examples of basses whos distinctive characteristic sound is down to their relatively unique pickup configs...
Absolutely agree with this. Leo spent a long time working out the exact position of his pickup and it was time well spent. Any bass with 34" scale that has a split pickup at exactly the same distance between the bridge and nut as a P Bass will sound like a P Bass, everything else is largely cosmetic. Also, I currently believe that a one-piece maple neck on a P has a sound all its own, but that could just be the drugs.
 12. Tried 'em, gave 'em a good go. But in the end, those few extra notes just don't seem worth it to me considering the extra expense, weight and general inconvenience and faff. And yes, I know it's about fretting-hand positions as well, blah blah - but I just plain don't get on with fivers and way prefer four strings. Horses for courses, one man's meat, be a funny old world if we all, yadda yadda.
 13. Fingers, strings, pickups/electrics, amp, cab. I agree quality cables are important, which is why I buy from obbm, a member of this lounge. But do cables have a major influence on tone? In my opinion, no.
 14.
Didn`t get to use it in the end Mark - my mates car was too full for that one so the SVT3-PRO (minus any casing) got the job.
No problem Lozz, another day! Probably no big rush for an in-the-field review.
 15. The only 12" drivers I've ever bought are Eminence Kappalites. I have two of them in a pair of Bill Fitzmaurice Jack12 cabs, they're great. Whether one would serve your purpose I'm not sure, but have a look at the specs and see what you think. All I can say is my BFM cabs sound truly excellent, but then at least some of that sound is down to the design of the cab. 16. Yeah well, my G-string is mainly for show anyway. Fnarr.
 17.
Wish I could fit that 810 in my locker!!
That would result in a trip to A&E, I fear...
 18. Just to say I've owned an Italian LM250 and IMHO they are indeed rated very conservatively. It was also extremely reliable.
 19. Balls! Severe Bassman Gas happening. Must... resist...
 20. OK then, that's the next thing I now stupidly want.
 21.
I'll wait for the plasterer's radio version...
22.
Silly boy! The new ones are on the shelf underneath, and go for £79.99.
I'll pay the extra then, I'm not going to relic it myself. Tsk!
 23. That is very bad luck. Get it sent back, get a good one and you won't look back.
 24. I'd want a new one for that kind of money.
 25. I deleted the 's' in 'https' too. Other than that, I've no idea. Great song, though.
