Tim sent me a lovely little G-K MB200 as part of a deal. Super-fast Special Delivery and professionally packed. Great comms, too. Would recommend this [s]eBayer A+ A+ A[/s]+ BassChatter. 10/10.
  2. It's a multi-function instrument. You can do the ironing between string changes. Mind you, it sounds pretty good when he plays it within normal 4-string bass range.
  3.
Also helps you learn not to keep looking at hour hands on stage.
I don't look at hour hands on stage, I'm usually counting the bloody seconds!!
  4.
I can't see it working for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers!!
Well I'm not going on stage wearing just a sock.
  5. Practise and more practise. Remember, bass players do it standing up with a strap-on...
  6.
...I too would have a 610/810 by choice..so 10's for me. Doesn't stop me using 12's either. But if you only made 15"s...then I could see why you may have been vocal about 15's..if you wanted to sell them, for example
So essentially you favour 10s and 12s. If your comment about 15s is aimed at a certain company who produce lightweight bass cabs, you'll find that their entire range across three series currently consist entirely of cabs based on 10- and 12- inch drivers. Not a 15 in sight. How do you stand on the 'size' issue, btw? Do you think driver size makes a difference to tone?
  7. This is a 'how long is a piece of string' question and you will get as many recommendations as there are members. I'm going to say DR Fat Beams and Elites Stadium Steels. Other brands and types of string are available.
  8.
Phil you are right about speker size. It is one of the of the parameters that detemines the sound.
Just out of interest, why do you believe this statement to be true? It is obvious from this and other threads elsewhere that some people think that speaker size has no bearing on tone - and that other people think speaker size definitely has a bearing on tone. Clearly both these statements can't be true. I know which I think is correct, but I don't have enough knowledge of physics or electronics or bass cab construction to make a decision about which statement is actually correct, so in the end I can only go by what I read on teh internetz. Meanwhile, I'm going to judge bass cabs on a cab-by-cab basis and go with the one I like the sound of in a live band situation, regardless of speaker size and regardless of how many speakers are in the cab. Oh wait, I did that a year ago. As you were.
  9.
I think it's because we like the sound of a particular cab and tend to go with whatever drivers are in it from then on.
Good point. Bill and Alex agree that nominal speaker diameter tells us nothing about tone and I have no reason whatsoever to dispute this, particularly as these are people who know what they are talking about. As Bill says, the laws of physics aren't swayed by opinion. It could be my imagined penchant for 10" speakers stems from my liking for the Ampeg 8X10 cab - this is a sealed cab and sealed cabs sound different to ported cabs. So it could be the case that I actually like the sound of a sealed cab, albeit one that just happens to have 10" drivers in it...
  10.
I don't know of anywhere that stocks them, but I could be out of touch on that one. They're certainly not widely available.
An outfit called B-Low are handling Schroeder in the UK - I don't know anything about them, however. http://www.b-lowbass.co.uk/ I bought both my Schros from this very boutique (i.e. BC) - they do come up occasionally, but you have to keep your eyes open.
  11. I'm not surprised Schroeder has had a good showing here, they are great cabs. I have used a 21012L exclusively for the last year or so and haven't experienced cab GAS in that time. Not even a little bit. I also had a 1212L before that - another excellent cab which I very much regret moving on. Amp choice is important with Schros, but generally I'd say they like power and plenty of it. They are also at their best in a live band situation, so if you're Michael Manring I'd say look elsewhere. These are gigging cabs and you will be heard. Thanks to Lozz and all concerned for the shoot-out! Very interesting results.
  12. *SOLD* SVT Amp Head Flight Case Up for grabs is this SVT Amp Head Flight Case intended for use with the Ampeg SVT and its derivatives, i.e. SVT CL, SVT VR, SVT350H, SVT450H and similar. Features FOUR butterfly catches with padlock loops, TWO spring-loaded dish handles, one at each end, large ball corners and Hexagrip panels. Fully lined with grey Plastazote foam. Approximately 35 X 38 X 65 cm. The case has obviously been used and is showing wear both inside and out. However, it has a lot of life left in it and would protect and transport your SVT perfectly adequately for years to come. As you can see there is the remains of a sticker on one side of the case, I will remove as much of this as possible before despatch. Having had a look at the new prices of these online, I think £65 posted is very fair. Payment via bank transfer only please. Case will be despatched via ParcelForce express48 and I will PM the buyer an ETA and tracking information. My feedback is here. I thank you!
  13.
Starting to wish i hadnt sold the RT10 so quickly now lol.
Yes, you should have kept that and sold the 1212L to me.
  14.
And Alex comes in for even more criticism! <sigh>
I <sigh> along with you. I really don't understand why Alex comes in for so much flak on here and elsewhere. He should be applauded, if anything. You don't see the big cab names getting so much stick. Maybe it's because they are faceless corporations and don't have an easily-targetable personality associated with them?
  15.
...Out front the hump helps shape the tone, and I do like how it sounds halfway down the room...
And that's the bottom line. Yes, I said 'bottom'. On a Sunday, too.
  16.
If it wasn't the worst...tell us what it was better than...I dare you
Yes, come on Jack - everyone's saying whatever they think about cabs today regardless, by the look of it (no matter how ill-advised their comments are), so spill the beans!
  17.
...although there isn`t meant to be a "sound" attached to speaker sizes I invariably find my fave sound when hearing other people play is a stack of 10s...
Totally agree, loved the 10s cabs available at recent auditions - though I find myself using 12s more often than not. I wonder if there is actually a technical reason for the 10s preference?
  18.
I did. I bought the 21012 that came up last week. Very very happy at tonight's gig.
Haha! Well in that case I'm very glad you like it.
  19.
When Schroeders were new and trendy (about 2007/8), they eventually fell out of favour because they had a mid hump. If today's shoot out is any indication, the mid hump seems to be seen as something positive again. Just goes to show that just because something is technically efficient and well engineered doesn't mean it sounds pleasant.
Not all Schroeders have a mid-hump. Out of the two Schros I have experience of, the first (a 1212L) had the mid-hump and it was very good for getting you heard in a live band situation. The second (a 210120L, which I still own) does not have the mid-hump, nevertheless it is a killer cab and will fill any size room with incredible-sounding bass. I haven't had cab GAS for a year now, and I don't think I ever will - unless I join a band with roadies and crew, in which case I will allow my underlying and persistent USA Ampeg 8X10 GAS to come to the fore. But in the real world, I believe Schroeder cabs to be the ideal one-cab solution. I love 'em.
  20. I've been telling everybody this for years but no-one will listen!
  21.
You are mad...
Quite possibly! Wibble! Sold.
  22.
...the stock photos show Speakons only for the speaker outs but I'm pretty sure this is an early model with the green combi-speakon/jack sockets if that helps!
Yes it does - you are correct Sir, thank you. They are Jack-Combo sockets which accept Speakon or 1/4" (6.3mm) jack sockets.
  23. *SOLD* Gallien-Krueger MB500 Fusion Specifications: http://www.gallien-k...usion-500-specs This is one of those sales I just know I'm going to regret, but for various reasons I seem to be gravitating towards Class A/B SS amps with large output transformers. Whether that's wise, I'm not sure - it remains to be seen and heard - but meanwhile, up for grabs is my superb Gallien Krueger MB500 Fusion. You probably already know what you're looking at, as this amp has been available for a while now and its pedigree has been established. Lots of reviews and videos are available on t'internet, but it was Norm Stockton's YouTube review that swayed me in the first place: Does it sound like a G-K? It'll do 'The G-K Grind' if you want it to. In fact, it'll do The Lambeth Walk if you want it to... it has a vast range of tonal variation available and is extremely versatile. Anything from round, warm old-school vibes to modern hi-fi tones. It's dual-channel too, so you can have two different sounds on the go and toggle between them with a footswitch (footswitch and cable included in the deal). It has three high-voltage preamp valves running 300V and they're not just for show - as they can be in some Class D equipment - the Gain, EQ, Contour and DI out are all valve-driven. You don't need a preamp or sound shaper in front of this amp. The G-K sounds seriously great in its own right and is immense. It's rated at 500W RMS @ 4ohms, but you really need to get this thing fired up and running to realise that regardless of what the figures tell you, this is one LOUD amp. If you want a big sound from a small box, this is definitely for you. I'm asking just £375 Posted, payment via bank transfer only please. Item will be very well packed and despatched via an appropriate insured and signed-for method. I will PM the buyer with an ETA and tracking information. My feedback is here. I thank you!
