Had a leisurely late-summer drive to Surrey to buy Alex's Ampeg SVT350H this afternoon, which is a very nice-sounding amp, as it turns out. Transaction was very smooth and Alex helpfully threw in a very long Speakon cable and a fitted pro flight case with four butterfly locks and two handles, which was nice of him. Recommended Basschatter!

The falsetto stuff I don't like. Not exactly sing-along, is it? Probably perfect for the film though, which I'm assuming won't be great.

Another happy 21012 user here... welcome to the forum.

Sold Lozz my BVT4500H in a typical Basschat dodgy supermarket car-park deal. Once again a perfect transaction, well-organised, great comms, everything you would expect from a pillar of the Basschat community. Recommended, and then some.

Looks like a load of bull to me. *Sigh* Seriously though, if BD are selling them they're probably OK. Ring Mark at BD, he'll give you an honest appraisal and tell you if he thinks they'd be suitable for you or not, even though he's selling them.

That is a bargain! I'm about to buy an Ampeg SVT350H, which I believe is similar to the B2R, only in a big, half-empty wooden box. The BR2E is the 450W version, is it not?

Squier Precision - Matt Freeman model. Incredible.

You have to love vintage white, black and maple. You made the right choice there! Enjoy. -
That white 63 is just amazing.
How come the 60s Olympic white finish stays white, but the 70s ones I've seen go custard colour? Something to do with lacquer?
70s Fenders go yellow due to degradation of a component in the clear poly coat over time. 60s are nitro.

Play loud without pissing off the neighbours?

I won't believe it until I hear it. ...Or until I don't hear it, in fact. -
However, amongst some folks there is what is to my mind an unjustified mystique surrounding lighter-weight basses in general, that is that all other things being equal the lighter the bass the higher the quality, which I seriously doubt is the case (as a Wal owner I have to say that don't I)
Boo, rubbish! You just want everyone to know you've got a WAL! Thhhppp!!
Just count yourself very lucky that you're not a chronic pain sufferer, because if you were this'd all make sense to you.
This is the crux of the matter. It boils down to the fact that if you're not actually in pain yourself then it's hard to understand that other people can be, and for what reason. It's like a friend telling you to 'snap out of it' when you're actually clinically depressed. If you've never suffered from depression there is no way you can appreciate how debilitating it really is. Personally I've never suffered from pain brought on by a too-heavy bass thank God, but I sure as hell suffer pain from an unrelated condition, so can sympathise. However, I do prefer light basses purely because I find them easier to play, and for longer. Plus, I'm sure there are quite a few, er... 'older' bass players on this forum (including myself) who have noticed all sorts of aches and pains that start to manifest themselves over time as our bodies become less flexible and weaker and we approach the time when we finally join the choir invisible. And what a fine day that will be as the angels of the LORD, in all their splendour... (cont p.94)
I've got the same head. I've bought it through Musicstore at 55 Euros, and it's actually quite good. My basses & cab are of a quite formidable quality, so I'm not sure how it behaves with mid-range instruments. However, I found it to be a really nice sounding amp, especially thanks to all the EQ possibilities you can have with it. My only concerns are that: - it priviledges the highs when the volume is turned up, but you can still manage it with the built in EQ, - the sound gets really crappy if you clip the preamp, - It's really heavy and takes a lot of space. However, if you take it out of the wooten shell, it weighs approximately... more or less 9 kgs or so (less than half of it's weight with the wooden box...). Other than that... it's a really good amp, especially for the price I've paid.
Wow, that's around £40! And presumably a profit was still made! I've been ripped off! I would absolutely agree with your list of concerns. And also agree that they can be acceptably managed without too much effort.

If (like me) you are a confirmed gear snob and really can't entertain the idea of appearing in public with a big Behringer amp, you could always buy a genuine OEM Ampeg cast badge from the USA and fit it to your BVT... then at least some of your amp would be genuine Ampeg! I think it looks quite smart, IF you can stand the mental trauma of being a total fraud... I don't think I could cope with the deception, myself. Also, full-on Ampeg GAS has become way too much for me - I'm moving this amp on and have a genuine Ampeg SVT350H lined up. Round and round the gear carousel goes, where it will stop nobody knows!! Naturally I will be posting 'NAD - Ampeg SVT350H' in due course.
Out of interest how heavy actually is it?
21.5kg (47.5lb). The manual is here. Heavy compared with a lightweight Class D amp, but liftable. Bear in mind a big valve amp is nearer 35kg (77lb).
I thought Ampeg's stuff was made in Vietnam these days (apart from the US made "heritage" kit). If so that scuppers the idea these are made on the same production line as the SVT 450.
The idea was pretty much already scuppered in the OP, but thanks for the info.

I may not always love you; but as long as there are stars above you, you never need to doubt it - I'll make you so sure about it.

Real relic Fender 60's P bass £345

Possibly 60s vintage..? Well it could possibly be solid gold, too. -
Less is definitely more. Groove and feel are really where it's at. This tendency towards filling every nanosecond of music with crap makes me want to pull my own brain out and fling it in a swamp.
