2.
If it was a full time job, I'd be taking whatever came my way and enjoying a lot more because doing something you love for a living is the ultimate aim isn't it?
If you do something you love and enjoy as a full time job, it's possible that you won't love and enjoy it any more and it becomes worse than doing something unrelated - because you don't even have the option of doing it as a hobby or for relaxation in your spare time.
 3. The twin P-type pickup configuration is a real winner. Not sure about the shape though - you don't have the hair for it, Jack.
 4.
The only guys that forget how to play are those that couldn't play in the first place.
You could be right there.
 5. Den sold me a book about bass harmonics. All good!
 6.
I've always thought that album was held in very high regard. At least in the prog community.
Quite possibly, but I never gave it the recognition it deserved until about two weeks ago.
 7.
...access at the heel, but a plug at the nut?! Why would anyone do that?
Because it's a one-piece maple neck with a skunk stripe? My Ash/Maple 76P is just the same.
 8.
It'll be a shame if it's got the usual common-or-garden car stereo power amp in it.
Well that's it, isn't it?. I'm beginning to realise that there's SS and then there's SS.
 9.
Looks good but those demo's make it sound too gritty for my taste. I'll try on out when I see one in a shop.
+1 Can't really make a decision based on a YouTube vid anyway. There are too many audio parameters involved - most importantly, how it was recorded and on what, YouTube bit rate and compression, how it's listened to via PC or other device or phone and on what monitoring system, whether studio monitors or headphones, buds, laptop speakers and on and on. Having said all that, it sounds pretty damn good through my full-range studio monitors.
 10.
I mean there is absolutely nothing else to do there, so there must be lots of groups!
I don't know... I spent a a few days there once and it was like getting in a time machine and going back to the 70s.
 11. They don't want to take their Wals to pub gigs in case they get nicked.
 12. I suppose one could say, 'Well done for quitting a band because you didn't like the music,' and then 'Now find a band that plays a varied and interesting set that corresponds more with your personal taste.' Is that too obvious? Edit: Missed the bit about you living on the Isle of Wight. How far would you travel for the right band?
 13.
People are recommending some real stinkers here
Yes, it's a shame isn't it?
 14.
Obviously is the fan noise is too much then it will suck.
Or blow.
 15. Wait a minute, wasn't that Bobby Vega just now? What happened..? Edit - Oh I see - you posted a SECOND video. That's what confused me.
 16.
The problem is with this bass.
You're getting close to a solution, I feel.
 17.
The only thing you will really have to worry about is sore fingers. The tips will have softened and you will probably have to dab some surgical spirit on them for a week or two.
Quite true, surgical spirit is great for sore fingers. If you drink about half a bottle you won't feel a thing.
Use it or lose it. I found that once muscle memory goes then it really is like starting from scratch.
Yes. Once I'm not playing a set, I forget it. I learn songs through muscle and pattern memory. But if you're not playing that set any more, it matters not. It doesn't mean you've completely forgotten how to play the bass.
 18. Deps are always paid. Regardless of your desire or otherwise to be a permanent member of this band, if you allow this precedent then you will be seen as an easy touch and will be asked to play a lot more freebies, perhaps to the point of not being paid where previously you would have been. I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot bass playing pole. Whatever that is.
 19.
How am I ever going to get through an audition if my playing is littered with squeeeeeeeekrattlehoooooooo, though?
As said above, when the rest of the band is playing you probably won't hear much of that.
 20. As ^ ambient ^ says, the best way to learn playing at high volume is to get in a band and do it. You already know it's something that needs to be addressed, so that's half the battle. It's like bands that rehearse endlessly because they want to be good at gigging - but the only way to be good at gigging is to do lots of gigs.
 21. Don't worry, it's like falling off a bike. Seriously though, as soon as you start jamming it will all come back to you. The trick is not to worry about it too much.
 22. Saw some of it and didn't like it, but then I don't think I'm in Metallica's key demographic! Some pretty cool video effects going on though and some of the posturing was quite good. Thought James Hetfield's banter was kind of weird... 'Are you ALIVE??' I think he probably already knew the answer to that one. 'ARE YOU WITH US??' Again, I'd say as the audience was extensive and had obviously come along specifically to see the band I'd say the answer would probably have been 'yes'.
